ARGUMENTATION

This post is an expansion of my prior theory #5409. It explains why the other six names are on the list and why they act so shifty. It also explains why Red John works alone, even though it often seems otherwise.

Red John works alone but has an uncanny expertise in many things including forensics, servailence , FBI, etc. The other six suspects are collectively documented experts in these areas. This is no coincidence. They are being extorted by Red John to help in his exploits. Red John specifically picked each one of them to use as tools in his nefarious 'performances'.

Red John had damaging or embarrassing secrets on each of the other six, most likely through his link to Visualize. Red John contacted each of the other suspects anonymously through email perhaps and requested a 'favor' from them in exchange for not disclosing their secrets. The initial favors were seemingly benign enough where the six suspects chose to comply in order to protect themselves.

Each suspect eventually became aware who they had helped when Red John pulled off another one of his murders...At this point, they know they helped Red John, but have no idea who he is or even how to contact him. Moving forward, they have no choice but to continue helping him because he can blackmail them and end their careers with scandal. As time passes, some of the six suspects come in contact with each other while watching the Red John investigations unfold.

I think what we saw in season 6 episode 2 was a 'Red John Support Group'. -These guys have figured out at the others are involved and have reached out to share information in an attempt to bring Red John down. I don't think any of them know who he is, if they did, they would probably kill him themselves.

Bertram desperately wants to know the latest developments on the Red John case to pass them to Red John and keep him happy, but he is probably privately hoping Jane catches him in a manner where Bertram's 'secret' doesn't get out.

These six suspects have conflicted feelings about Jane because they would love for him to catch or kill Red John, but they don't want their secrets to be revealed when that happens. Also, there is probably some resentment towards Jane because many of the illegal things they are forced to do are to taunt Jane or obscure his investigation, so they also feel like Jane is hunting them as well as Red John. Tricky, no?

There are lesser characters who are willing fans or followers of Red John. Notice how their value to him is very limited to having 'hands' to carry out more visible dirty work. These guys always die in the end. RedJohn sacrifices his pawns to protect his prized pieces who can further provide him forced assistance or information. These lesser characters are societal outcasts that probably meet Red John through chat rooms or fan sites and he eventually selects the ones who will be blindingly loyal after providing them something they desperately want.....
