LATEST THEORIES

Ok, here's the deal. On this site, today alone, Sheriff McCalister has surged ahead to the 4th spot in theory popularity. Makes sense. He fits the bill in many ways.

But I can honestly say that most of the theories on here , my previous one included, are way too detailed and the theorists have obviously read too much into every clue, non- clue, and random piece of dialogue. Many of you should be mystery writers yourselves. I've found the theories to be as entertaining and plausible as the show itself, sometimes more so.

But I can say that I looked away from the show to find the biggest clue yet on the identity of Red John. Rather than focus on characters, I focused on actors. Since Sheriff McCalister had been the favorite candidate lately, I decided to look up Xander Berkeley and found his Wikipedia page. Sure enough, as one of many roles in his long, impressive career, he had an entry that looked just like this:

The Mentalist (2008-2013, 3 episodes) Sheriff MCalister / Red John.

I then proceeded to look at the Wikipedia page of the other actors, all suspects on the list of 7. None of the others had "Red John" mentioned next to their primary character name for their Mentalist mention. I also noted that about this time, the Whoisredjohn.com web site was down, for a while. I got home from work a few hours after my initial discovery and noted that Xander Berkeley's Wikipedia page still credited him as " Sheriff McCalister / Red John." But then I checked it 2 hours later and the Red John reference was GONE!

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason this web site was down today is that it was hacked/attacked by CBS to put the brakes somewhat on the Sheriff as Red John speculation while at the same time they had people twisting arms to "fix" the Xander Berkeley Wikipedia page, since it have it away.

Before you down-vote me just because of who I accused, hear me out.

Immediately from the opening scene of S6:E7 we are hit with an improbable scenario.  While three suspects are burnt to an unrecognizable crisp, two suspects and Jane are alive, intact, with not a scratch or burn on them.  Their clothes weren't even singed.  How is that possible?

Theory 12346 (http://www.whoisredjohn.com/See-a-theory-Red-John/12346) gives an interesting explanation as to why Jane, Bertram, and Smith were not harmed at all.  I disagree with this theory, though, that it was Stiles who brought the bomb.  I believe it was Bertram.  Right before Bertram stands up to line up against the wall, watch his left foot.  He's shuffling something underneath the sofas!  Why would he do that?  Well, didn't this last episode give you enough reason for why he'd kill in cold blood?

I don't think, however, that Bertram is Red John.  I think he's high up among Red John's cronies, but not the big guy himself.  According to the interviews with Bruno Heller (if we can trust anything that he says), the final showdown takes place in a park, at the request of Simon Baker.  In the previews, we see someone--with the classic strange voice used to portray Red John throughout the series--enter the church.  Jane shoots this individual.  I can think of a few explanation for this.  What I want to happen is this:

Bertram enters the church using a voice distorter, showing Patrick that any person could sound like Red John.  Jane kills Bertram because Bertram threatens his life--he obviously has weapons.  But, Bertram isn't Red John.  Jane later kills Red John when Bertram reveals a final clue to him.

It's odd, as Theory 12346 also points out, that Jane went public, calling on the media to get the news out.  It's clear to me and the writer of Theory 12346 that Jane is taunting Red John the same way he taunted him the first time.

First PLEASE stop looking at next weeks promo for clues. Just because it appaears as though Mcallister is not dead, does not make him Red John. Just because you THINK you hear Red John say "The Game is over I Win" does not mean that is even Red Johns voice. That wouold not be the first time Red John delivers a message to Jane through a messenger who uses the word "I" when referring to Red John. The network would not go all this way to give away such blatant revelations in the PROMO.....Now on to my theory.

My theory is more of a sit back and ask yourself a key question. WHAT IS RED JOHNS MOTIVE???? In the beginning Red John was depicted as a psychotic serial killer who just liked killing and torturing people, mostly women. As the series moved forward he slowly became a intelligent, manipulative, messianic figure complete with disciples, informants, and a network of followers. Now were supposed to believe he is the leader of a massive, very powerful criminal organization made up of law enforcement and judges??? Why would someone so smart, so powerful, so influential risk it all by getting his rocks off killing random women?

Either this show is completely jumped the shark and cannot reasonably connect season 6 to season 1 ORRR there is some other purpose for the Red John murders that carry some elaborate motive not yet explained.

Its my theory that Red John is NOT a member of the Blake Association, and in fact his motive is to expose it. Bosco and his team were not set up and killed by Red John, they were set up and killed by Blake Association operatives because the Red John investigation was leading them to Blame Association members. Every Red John murder including that of Janes family threatened to expose the association. Knowing that Jane would stop at nothing to catch him after murdering his family, Red John continued to lead Jane towards exposing the Blake Association and it worked. Bertram kept wanting to be there when Jane caught Red John not protect him, but because the Association wants Red John dead. Notice how the Blake Association members behave a little differently than Red John Disciples. Red John Disciples seem loyal, almost like they worship him, while Blake Association members are bribed or forced into membership. Finally I cant escape the biblical symbolism. Red Dragon, the picture of the last supper, a final showdown in a church, fire and brimstone. Does Red John view himself as a modern day Jesus revolting against a tyrannical regime complete with disciples? Even the episode after Red John has the word heaven in the title.

With this theory in mind I look at Stiles... If red John is NOT in the Blake Association, Stiles and Haffner were the 2 without a tattoos. Stiles for sure views himself as a Jesus type figure with his own disciples, close to death, who will return after his demise.

to all these people saying it is partridge...
How is this possible as Theresa found partridge and he was lying in front of her when she got pulled into the other room by the back.
Except if there was an accomplice (which is unlikely for red john). Partridge can't be red john.

(I know there are so many other things that do point towards partridge, but isn't that a bit too obvious?)

Since end of season 3 I thought Red John was Gale Bertram. Since the beginning of the show I wanted Red John to be Brett Patridge. However, it seems like Red John is Ray Haffner for the following reasons.
1) Reede Smith confessed that others have done murders in place of Red John. And I remember specifically in one episode Brett Patridge telling Patrick Jane that, "oh this is not Red John!" while investigating the scene of a murder with a smiley face. So since we are pretty sure that Brett Patridge was in the tiger tiger organization than it is safe to assume that even Brett Patridge might as well committed a murder for Red John. That is how he knew that murder was not commited by Red John because Brett Patridge himself commited that murder. I hope one of you remembers which episode that happened in!!
2)Bob Kirkland, or his twin, killed the guy that knew who was Red John at the end of the last season. I believe it was Bob Kirkland. He knew that his brother was in the Tiger Tiger organization so he asked that guy if he knew him, aka his brother, then after that he basically killed him off. He knew that guy was not Red John and he knew that he wouldn't give him any intelligence on Red John. And then Bob Kirkland was indeed killed by Reede Smith. I do not think his twin will show up because I believe he is dead too.
3)I am scratching off Thomas McAllister as well as Gale Bertram. Why? We already know that Red John literally called in murders to be carried out by the tiger tiger organization. So now, none of the people with the 3 dot tattoo could be Red John!
4) So now we are left with Ray Haffner and Bret Stiles! When Ray Haffner meets Lisbon; she tells him that they need Bret Stiles as well. So Ray Haffner sends Bret Stiles a note saying that Patrick Jane wants to see you, since we know that Ray Haffner has ties with visualize and knows the location of Bret Stiles. Then Ray Haffner comes up with a plan to fake his death as well as of Brett Stiles. We also see the blood ritual done by Brett Stiles. Red John possibly picked that up when he was at Visualize and turned it into a smiley face. We also know that at one of the Red John killings somebody wrote Heisman, possibly implying that he is a Heisman trophy winner. Also, Ray Haffner is indeed afraid of spiders!  I believe that Brett Stiles is Ray Haffners father and Ray Haffner is the real Red John.
