Ok i was wrong. I said i would admit it when the time came so here it is . Van pelt is not red john lol Regardless of her being my pic i thought episode 8 was the worst mentalist episode i have ever seen! Boring anti climatic and dumb. Honestly filler episodes are better than this one . It explained nothing . Macalister was a good actor i guess but he even after he was revealed never seemed evil, dubious, smart, and far from a mastermind. Why why why in the HELLER did it end like this!?

This is up there with the worst endings in TV history. It's like the writers sat down with 7 pictures of the suspects and just pulled one at random. There is no story in this episode. Bruno Heller was telling the truth, Red John is just a regular guy. No charisma, no smart talk, no explanation what made him to become Red John, no connections to anything in past episodes, no nothing, just a guy who is killed by Jane and that's it.
You could actually replace Red John by any character who was ever for more than 10 seconds on the show and there was nothing that needed to be changed in the episode, except replacing the Red John actor. Everyone would fit. It was completely generic.
For those that have seen it, I have two questions: do they explain why RJ killed Partridge and how he got the list?

If you download the app sidereel and look up the mentalist guide the episode guide has a preview of the episode after the red John reveal its called my blue heaven and looks like the show is going to fast forward 2 yrs ahead after rj is caught the info says " Two years after the red John case was closed, Jane receives a surprising job offer that could change his life." Looks like the show may go in a different direction after they reveal red John.

me it wasen't so crutial who RJ was ( except Reede Smith) even tho I
had my favorite, I would enjoy whomever as long as the storyline was
worthy us mentalist fans, now after reading all of ur theories and comments, I'm not so sure
