I think this whole "leak" thing is an illusion made by Heller.
It's simple when you think again.
Who is the target? : people who are crazy about this whole red john thing, people who can't wait to see who is Red John.
What is the aim?:
Heller is a genius that he knows it's too much difficult to satisfy those crazy persons. He is messing with us. We follow every single clue regarding Red John's identity. We want an almost perfect finishing. There is this "Lost" shit and I think Heller wants us to feel "grateful" for not finishing "the mentalist" as in leaked version.
I can consider this as a great way of saying "come on guys, do you really think that I would do this disgusting ending to you? Do you really think I'm a fucking idiot producer like 4/10 action movies of US? "

What is the result?:
Those who were able to watch leaked vers. can not decide whether it's real or fake. Some emotionally want a better ending. And I'm sure, when we watch the real thing on Sunday, We will definitely enjoy it.
Another Clues for my theory
- "The ending is disappointing." is the only common sentence came from many different workers of mentalist.
- What the fuck is wrong with Mcallister's voice when he only says "Game's over and I won" ? Watch it again, it ridiculously change and come back again.
- this is an interactive tv series in the sense that we constantly talks like "come on guys! heller said this. come on guys heller said that." there are many interviews about "who is redjohn" thing. this illusion would be a contingent and smart move. and nobody would have any complains because it's not official.
