Haven't seen the LEAKED episode, but the ways others are describing it, I'm sure its the real deal. People are complaining about the horrible acting and everything else but also about the sound effects and music. The sound effects and music not being there means that the final editing had to happen. This also means that there could have been re-takes for the scenes in which acting is below par according to the fans. So the episode is real and the identity of Red John might remain same but just the feel and reveal could be better on Sunday. I hope its a decent episode. I hope we don't have to become Red John ourselves and kill the writers and editors of The Mentalist one by one.

I think we are in the unfortunate situation that what has been revealed is not that Thomas McAllister is Red John, but that Bruno Heller is not as clever as we thought he was.

I suspect he has fallen into a hole where by he's taken this story too far, and he doesn't know how to clean it up. He's created a tangle of clues, subterfuge, and tricks that he doesn't know how to untangle. The result, for people like us who go over every scene, every trick, every angle, is disappointment.

Episode 6x8 is the biggest let down of the entire series. It isn't so much the choice of who is Red John, it's the execution of the episode. The actor who plays McAllister either wasn't up to the task, or wasn't given enough to work with from the writer. Bradley Whitford (season 3 finale) did a much better job of playing "Red John", and was much more convincing.

Unfortunately we've been hoist by our own petard; we've analysed too much, and expected too much.

Last episode, Patricks comment when Reede broke down in custody:
"... Confessed to murder, Red John would never break like that, not even as an act"

Well, seems like he broke even worse...

I'm also hoping for it to be fake but I guess the whole season has to be fake then. Grown up men saying 'Tyger Tyger' to eachother and tattooing their secret clubsign on the arm. 

The list was a mistake to begin with, it removed all suspense of revealing Red John. They wasted 7 episodes on what? No information about Red Johns past and how he could gain so much power.

I think we've exhausted the theories on who Red John is based on evidence, so here's my theory on how Jane catches Red John based on evidence...

Jane chases Mcallister into the Park. Dumps muffins all over him and he gets mauled by pigeons. Mcallister has panic attack from his fear of pigeons and faints. Patrick Jane ties him up and holds him down. Tom wakes up and Jane slices him up. End Scene.
