Could very well be a hoax, if you look for it, there's very few scenes with the Sheriff and those are all easily exchangable. Especially the last one where he chokes RJ, you never see both of them at the same time and he's not talking only blinking to answer questions. Very very easy to fake. Furthermore, when did this leak, couple of days ago? They're not sending the episodes to CBS an hour before they're aired so the timing is completely off, the final episode has been edited and finished at least several days ago, speaks for it being a hoax as well.
Plus its a bad episode, simply too bad, the writers arent that dumb

Hey guys, so I watched the episode that was leaked, I can tell you that it really did seem like the real episode. I really highly doubt they would make a fake one. I mean all the scenes from the preview were identical. I can't say I am happy with who RJ turned out to be or how it ended. But that is what happens when you hype a show over one character and then the ending does not turn out to be so good. Now hopefully I can enjoy the Mentalist for what it really is, let's see :)!
my theory for about two years
Red John isn't man,real human. It's an idea(?), like Kayser Soze. Many people killed as Red John. I thougt there is a organisation with rich and powerfull people (cops, judges, etc ) and they just keep looking on business. they want to be more rich and powerfull. when they need to kill someone then we see RJ.
it is a masterpiece for a criminal. they "made Red John", a serial killer and everybody are looking single man
