Hello fellow
Mentalistians! Okay, so first, I have to take slight umbrage at the fact that
the list of “suspects” doesn’t include my own “LOCK”, none other than Ellis
Mars. How can “SUMMER”, the prostitute turned informant have a page and not my
boy Ellis?

BUT – for you
serious RJ sleuths out there, I want to mention something to consider. As
everyone knows, Bruno Heller is the creator of the show and the head writer.
Basically, it’s his baby. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that he doesn’t
write all of the episodes. In fact, he has written only 15 of the episodes
through the first four seasons. Most of the shows he wrote were the pilot, the
opening and final show each season, and most of the Red John shows. But the
pattern of which shows he wrote is also telling – 5 in season one, 4 in season
two, and only 3 in seasons three and four. I think this is telling, and that
it’s highly probable that since HE is the one who will ultimately decide RJ’s
fate, he’d want to write the episodes with the clues. Makes sense, right? Of
course, many of the usual suspects our fellow sleuthers throw out appeared in
the key shows that he wrote, but still...

Happy
hunting, and please be kind to your fellow Mentalistians, even the really
stupid ones who think that Jane, Lisbon, Jane’s wife, or any woman are the real
Red John. Only one (or a few) of us will ultimately be right... and please be
gracious in your praise when my boy Ellis is ultimately revealed to be the man behind
the mask...

I have no clue who they will pick to be Red John, but there are some people who I would HATE to see as Red John, and would be terrible for the show, in my opinion:

The "Already been done before" characters:
-Jane's dad:  A little too "Star Wars" for me, having the bad guy turn out to be the good guys dad...I also think that they would have to do too much extra explaining if it was Jane's dad to tell us how Jane wouldn't have known when he was a kid that his dad was RJ

-Brett Partridge:  "Dexter" already has claim to the CSI dude being a serial killer...I wouldn't like to have Brett be the same thing...Obviously, you could say there are plenty of differences, which there are, but still too similar for me.

-Patrick Jane:  Would be way too "Fight Club"-ish if it turned out Jane was doing all of this in his subconscious...plus i think it would just kind of ruin the show if it was Jane.  Everybody loves Jane and would hate to see him as the bad guy (I think).  Also, I don't think it's using much imagination on Heller's part if he chose Jane to be RJ (just look at how many people have already come up with that theory!!  #1 suspect on this site!!!)  Can't be Jane, too many people have guessed that, and way too many other reasons for it not to be him!

Others I would hate to see as RJ:

-ANY female character:  ESPECIALLY Rosalind.  You can't just tell the audience a million times that RJ is a man, then turn around and make it a woman...and if it's a BLIND woman on top of that, I would hate the show forever.  No way could RJ be a blind woman, that's just dumb!

-RJ as a "group of people":  RJ needs to be a singular man.  Obviously, he has plenty of people who work for him, but there NEEDS to be a single RJ to be caught and killed by Jane.

-Laroche:  if RJ is a 300lb man with a sissy little dog, I'll be a little upset!  haha

-ANY dead person:  If they try and bring of the "dead" people back to life to be RJ, that will be really lame...

That's all I can think of right now...It's a shame that Bret Stiles is too obvious of a choice, because I think he would be a perfect fit for Red John.
If we are supposed to be "shocked" at who RJ is, then it can't be Jane, Brett, or Bret, because those are the top 3 suspects from us, so that would be kind of dumb

Okay, first of all, the last theory we posted about the frog and the pony? 100% joke. We don't really think that's the answer. But we do think that Red John could be Jane's dad.

Red John is a showman and a conman. As we saw in 2x10, "Throwing Fire", no one is more of a showman than Jane's dad. He was a member of the traveling circus, after all. Jane's dad was also shown to be a conman, forcing Patrick to pretend that they had a "healing crystal" that could save a little girl's life.

Plus, Lorelei's body was found at a carnival, and what looked to be murder weapons were visible in the background. Could this possibly be indicating that Lorelei went to that carnival with the purpose of killing Red John? If so, isn't it possible that Red John is Jane's dad? As stated before, he did work with a traveling circus for many years.

However, there is a glitch with this theory. The flashbacks we were shown in 2x10 were from the year 1986; in the episode 5x13, we learned that Red John was most likely working at Elliston Farm in the year 1988. Wouldn't Jane have remembered if his father had worked on the farm? Unless of course, Jane fled the carny life sometime during the time that passed between 1986-1988. Maybe after the incident with the little girl and the healing crystal? We think it's a possibility. What do you guys think?

Mashburn, in addition to
money, has red sweaters, slept with Lisbon (while Jane with Lorelei),
the name that starts with Ma..., he stay in reformatory, had difficult
relationship with his mother, the trauma of his girlfriend with red hair
who left him for Bajoran, his ruthless personality (who wants to have revenge on Yuri
looks like what RJ did with PJ, take away the thing he more loves - for
Yuri the company, for PJ the family - and let live), has helicopter,
plane, the limo, he likes vintage cars, hates psychics, has had several
"wives", the voice may be compatible, he like to interfere in the
investigation, is a friend of all the powerful politicals, attorney and
police chief, has never been beaten by Jane (the only), it's
sarcastic.And he's a bored dandy(remember the Aestheticism:"art and life",
"immorality but beauty" "art's work is the most important thing of the
life"etc). These ideas could be also in RJ, a showman/artist, with powerful friends, money , disciples and, maybe, important secrets on national security, for blackmail other powerful people.
P.S.
"He is Mar/n" write's hypothesis:
He is married (ring)
He is Mashburn (simply, but Heller's style)
He is Marin's (Marin County)

Um shouldn't the pony and der tiny paper frog be on the suspects list?! WELL THEN, lets get started. The pony and the frog. The perfect team. The pony tramples the victim (pony has spikey feet and is imortal) and the frog paints the the toe nails and then stands on the ponys now inlarged head and paints the smiley face uses his boingy powers. BABAM, we're brilliant. You're welcome. ;) we out

The title of 5x08 episode, focused on Red John and Lorelei Martins, Red Sails In The Sunset, is the anagram of "Hunts Ardiles, it's seen". Heller says: "See the White Whale"

He works in court (Cut iron). Tagliaferro ,alias of Red John, Also known as Cut iron. Cut iron is the anagram of "in court".

His name O. Ardiles, is an anagram for "A soldier".  Loralei tells Jane that Red John views him as an "old comrade".

I know that he works alot and has no time to be Red John but it makes sense to me

RJ has started to play with Patrick now, I don't think that the carnival stuff at the scene of loreleis murder is a clue to RJ, but that RJ is now starting to frame patrick, gale Bertram and Kirkland were spotted talking about the cbi team, and asking if they could trust Lisbon. I have a feeling that Bertram and Kirkland think Jane is RJ and the team are following his orders. The real red John will be revealed and noone will believe Jane because everyone thinks it's him
