I think this is all part of Jane's master plan.  Red John knew Jane was making a list.  Red John wasn't trying to predict Jane's final 7 he was giving him 7 distractions knowing Jane would have to look at those 7    Jane just goes with his picks knowing RJ gave him those 7 names for a reason  7 possible clues    thinks that one of the 7 could possibly be another Timothy Carter  anything to get one step closer to Red John       tells Lisbon cause he knows she will tell the team but only the team so Jane can weed out the RJ mole(VanPelt/Rigsby) there's a reason why they aren't around after RJ's "death"     Jane knew McAllister wasn't Red John that's why he said he was disappointed and why he didn't care about McAllister's bullshit explanations   ( after the gutshot do you think McAllister acted like Red John or acted like someone who was made to play Red John? . . .just like Timothy Carter )                                      Jane had to kill McAllister to make Red John think that he bought that McAllister was Red John.    getting Red John to lower his guard      geting the corrupt CBI shut down  no more RJ mole's or BA spies   joins the FBI    getting all of their power and resources for when he goes after the real Red John           the season isn't over yet

only 2 things that occurred to me while I watched the previous seasons:
-The "He is mar" clue, someone already thought that could be "He is Marshall"?  We all know that Red John works on law enforcement, this makes sense, you dont think?
-On Season5 Episode 13 we knew that Red John was a Visualize Member, like Kira Tinsley said to Jane when she has been caught by him, that was a Visualize member that requisited her services.

Thomas McAllistar is not a marshall and never refered as a Visualize member in entire season. Open for your opinnions! Sorry for my bad english

Outside the box.

There has yet to be a good explanation of how redjohn guessed janes list.
I dared to use my imagination and thought that maybe lorelie and jane made the tape together .
I came to this conclusion by watching jane then watching Lisbon, and then looking at cause and effect.

-Jane was not affected by this crazy turn of events. The word apathetic seems to fit his response to the whole situation.
-Lisbon on the other hand flips the f out ! As of coarse jane knew she would.
-Lorelie congratulates jane for having such a great memory to remember all those names and narrow it to 7.
Then she says "take out your list of 7, ill wait".
-so jane needs his list of 7 to remember even after he narrowed a list of thousands to 7??
-The tape was made for Lisbon!!
-lisbon freaks out and jane being so apathetic made her flip out even more.
--JANE KNEW LISBON WOULD TELL THE TEAM. This is jane 101
Telling someone not to do what he knows they will do anyway. Jedi mind tricks.
-jane wanted Lisbon to tell the team.
This led to cbi being shut down after all 7 suspects were dealt with.
-van pelt and rigsby are the most hurt by this turn of events. They freaked out!
-jane didnt care at all that cbi was shut down.

Thats how i see it, call me names i dont care . Dare to believe !

4 very weird facts about Patrick Jane.

When i started rewatching the show along with a friend of mine i was astonished how many details i had missed in the past, especially in the Pilot.

1. ) Double diary

The Tolliver case ends by Juniper shooting Morgan. The only thing supporting Janes claim that Mr. Tolliver killed his daughter is a diary. In the second case of Alison Price+ Gregory Tannen he uses a fake diary to trap Linus Wagner. Now if the first diary was a fake as well it could change everything.

Jane fabricates the diary in a night session in a 24h diner while drinking coffee!
He finishes just after Rigsby and Van Pelt walk in the next morning.
It's a pretty thick book and it took time a lot of time to fill all those pages. That way to much work just for a simple gag, especially considering how lazy Patrick usually is. With that being said it seem not to far fetched to suspect he filled the thing with his thoughts and that it was more about his need to write stuff down than preparing a clever punchline. We get a few glimpses and the stuff written down is simply mad.
It's mathematical equation something resembling a double helix and the curved blade Red John uses. There is a full page with nothing but the sentence: "You know you did it." A part can be seen while in the diner an other part when Wagner looks at it.

2.) Long talk
The talk Jane has with Wagner seems short because it is interrupted by the flashback and the case developing. Before Jane is shown talking to Wagner we get to see the building with people walking in. Judging by the way the shadows fall it can't be to long after midday. Through the window of the room the two talk in we can see the trees outside. Before Wagner signs the prescription we see the building again. Night has fallen and people are walking out. So the two must have been talking for hours, but all we know is the "fake?" Johnny Cash storry.

3. Double Car

Jane is known for driving the iconic Citroën DS. The curious thing about that is that he has two versions of that car. Usually he is seen in a version with grey surrounding the two headlights and the license plate 258 PCE. But for example in S01E17 Carnelian Inc. he drives a different model with two seperate Headlights on each side and the license plate  536 DQN.

4. Double Red Smiley

This one i just noticed recently and i was realy stunned. In the flashback we see Jane walking up the stairs to find the letter taped to the door. When opens the door the we see the red smilie. The shot includes the Janes shoulder, the back of his head a fallen lamp and a vase on something like a low book case. The view is fairly straight through the door.  The very end of the episode there is a very simular scene. Jane enters the now empti house drops the mail at the same place and walks up the same stairs. When he is about to enter the camera cuts to his shoes walking on carpet diagonaly through the room to the mattress in the corner next to the window. He sits and the camera zooms in until he lies down. As it moves up the wall it shows a faded red smiley that looks identical to the first one we saw in the flashback.
However it is a different smiley because the location is not correct. In the flashback shot there is enough space on the right of it for at least 2 or 3 more in the second shot there isn't. Also he walks over diagonally and we can even make out a corner of that low book case in down left corner as he walks.

Hello everyone. If you look closely season 6 episode 8 , you will see that there is full of inconsistencies and even some clues.Towards the beginning 10 min13 , Jane tells Lisbon: " The birds really googly eyes , real small dinosaurs ..."Then when the prosecution, 37min02 when Mcallister through the window , if you watch TV , what do you see there ..... ;) ?And finally at the very end , we see a little girl ... a toboggan slide shaped ... ?In short it is a bit much in one episode I think.
To return to the Red John ... Xander Berkeley is pretty good I guess, but the character does not stick. Mcallister was seen in one episode before the season 6 and the only clue we had about him was that he liked redheads ( van pelt drag it a little heavily, while John is supposed to be red a great seducer ) . And all other indices ( He likes the cold He is Mar, the poem by William Blake, Vizualise , twin Kirkland ... ) are no longer referenced ...And Red John  is afraid of dying , it ruins the spirit of the series. I imagined more like the joker, great sociopath who is too afraid to freak ... with a hero as Patrick Jane , we expected a Red John  in the shadow of the Joker and Hannibal Lecter .. .
It is unfortunate that it is sloppy, I will like that 's it a twist but I have little hope.
For my part, I imagined well Brett Partridge Red John , in particular because of two things ;
1 ) Jane does not support it . If we compare with the other 6 suspects list , Jane has never once joked with Partridge, as if he felt that this man was dangerous. So with all the others, he jokes or play them at least once . But Partridge , it is cold.
2) It appears in the first episode and he explains the procedure of the Red John . I have found it really intoduire class main antagonist in the first episode , mocking the police ... and since it is resumed by Jane , it was like a test , like, " Now you're ready to play ... " .
If I could decide on the scenario of season 6 , I would have ensured that the Red John was discovered quite early too, but instead of being killed, he is arrested. Jane would give to kill in order not to lose Lisbon . I imagined too episode only with flash backs on the past of the Red John . Then a conversation between him and Jane , where it seems almost everything. John red in court, but that at the last moment he managed to escape from his cell ( killing guards of course ) . I would imagine Red John  trying to convince the police that he worked for Patrick Jane , so that his rival is his turn to chase ... but maybe I was asking too much ...
Thank you for reading anyway.
And sorry for my english very very bad.
Tiger- Tiger.

I've questioned Stiles as being RJ for a while [I mean come on, this is friggin' Malcolm McDowell we're talking about!! A FAMED actor spanning DECADES who TURNED DOWN KNIGHTHOOD from the Queen of England! Plus, the guy killed Captain Kirk, for cripe's sake! He's not taking a small role in The Mentalist]

BUT -- because he's always been such a famed villain, I thought, it's almost too stereotype to make McDowell your villain now. YET, he's clearly VERY IMPORTANT in this story -- and definitely very much ALIVE.

My theory on Bret Stiles is he's family to Red John...

RJ is Stiles illegitimate child.  How else do you get Daddy to pay attention to you?

Something about this makes me think of Queen Elizabeth I: the REDHEADED illegitimate daughter of Henry VIII -- after all, Heller is from England, [as are the real Stiles & Rigsby, Simon Baker from Australia] and in America, famous celebrities, even crazy cult leaders, are the kings and queens [and their children are usually really f@$cked up.
