LATEST THEORIES

Hi Mentalist
Fans,

Anyone want to read a new lengthy post? I spend a lot of time on this just because I was curious! :) I was just doing it for my own research and curiosity but it occurred to me that some fans might be interested in seeing this. So, it's not an actual theory, but mostly a list that may or may not have any significance depending on how you view it. (and on how Heller & Co. wrote it and meant it).

So what I did was compiled a
list of names/words/phrases that could be possible drug references in The Mentalist, because I wanted to see how many
could be found and if it would reveal any insight into the show.

Keeping in mind that many of us are familiar with the show's story lines that often center around drugs and many drug references in the show, I wanted to see what I could find from a little digging.

*This drug list isn't for pointing to an actual suspect, but if you are curious as to why I think Red John is a certain suspect, I provided some comments on that at the end.

From the research
I’ve done, it may be possible that Red John and possibly Visualize, are the
heads of huge DRUG RINGS. Maybe the Blake Association works for them and
recruits people who will work for the BA because of their shady pasts or if
they made a mistake and need it cleaned up (ex: Reed Smith) so they do things
they don’t want to do for Red John in order to escape jail time.

I’m sure there
is even more to the drug story line, but I’ll get right to the list to save time.

Just thought
I’d share what I found with all of you regarding the drug references in case
you are interested
On some of
these I was surprised and said, What? WOW!  ;-)  Even if you don't agree, at least it's another post to read if you are longing for more Mentalist info. There was more I could have posted, but it's long enough as it is.Even if it doesn't end up being what Heller intended, I still found it VERY interesting!

I have no idea if any of this is relevant so please don't take it as I think every single word is a definite clue. I just wanted to see how many I could find that may be POSSIBLE clues from the writers. With that in mind, hope you have fun with it! :)

POSSIBLE DRUG REFERENCES  in The Mentalist:

1)
Tiger = HEROIN

2)    Tiger, Tiger= Heroin, Heroin (ride
the tiger=inject heroin, psychedelic consciousness after injecting
hallucinogenic drugs)

3)    White Tiger = Cocaine

4)    Red John (Jack slang for John) = to steal
someone else’s drugs

5)    Red=under the influence of drugs

6)    Red BOOK- =100 dosage units of LSD

7) (red)   John (Jack)-to steal someone’s drugs

8)    Fire & Brimstone = Crack Cocaine,
Meth

9)    Pumping (iron) =Selling Crack

10) PAT
JANE (Patrick Jane) = Marijuana, Marijuana

11) Spider = Heroin

12) Tea=Marijuana,
phencyclidine

13)***3
DOTS=LSD, drug trafficker, Line of cocaine, 3 Dots on shoulders could signify
being a drug trafficker. Blake Association, Tiger Tiger, could be code for
Heroin.

14) Dove
(Pigeon)= $35 worth of of cocaine – 1 oz of crack cocaine

15) Dove
(Pigeon) eating seeds out of hands or on ground=taking a drug orally

16) Bird

17) Smiley
Face= Cocaine  Happy Face= Cocaine

18) Tiger,
Tiger –handsome, beautiful, seductive killer and/or drug dealer (Red John)

19) Lamb-could
signify Red John’s followers and victims. Following with the drug theme, his
followers could be addicted to him and to the drugs and Highs he provides. Drug
addicts will do often do anything for a fix. They will give up their families,
steal, are beholden to their dealers and feel they owe them. Drug dealers are
manipulators. Drugs steal your life. They make you someone you are really not.
Lambs/Addicts are led to the slaughter by their tigers.

32) White-coke

33) ROLL
TIDE- Uttered after dipping tea into water. Riding the wave of drugs.  Under influence of drugs. Signifies victory
in face of extreme adversity. To experience the effects of ecstasy.

34) Belladonna-PCP

35) Sniff-cocaine
up nose

36) Snow-cocaine,
heroin

37) Black-marijuana,
opium, meth

38) Pot-marijuana.
Also Haffner means pot or dish. Could be double meaning.

39) Haffner
is whistling,”Jimmy Crack Corn” as he leaves Lisbon’s hospital room. “Crack
Corn” is a rock solid form of cocaine. Years ago, makeshift crack pipes were
made from hollowed out corn cobs and it was called “cracking corn.”

40) Patrick
Jane’s eyes are dilated through each episode. = sign of being under hypnosis or
on drugs. Could be subplot of where Patrick Jane really is. (Ex: in mental
hospital imagining all of what is going on)

41) VERY INTERESTING:  In
the episode, Red John, Jane’s wife and daughter are listed in the credits as
being in Jane’s “hallucination.” Then the next episode is titled, My Blue
Heaven, which refers to LSD, a hallucinogenic drug.

That makes it a reasonable
theory that Jane may have ended up in a coma or is still suffering from a
hallucinogen after the blast and the audience hasn’t seen or been told who
really died in the blast (if anyone) or if the blast even happened or who Red
John really is.

OTHER THOUGHTS:

Since
they never showed us the bodies of Haffner or Stiles and "said" they were dead...(but then again they originally said MacAllister was dead and he turned up alive)
then just abandoned the story and zoomed
ahead 2 years (how convenient) It never made sense that the suspects would meet
Jane on his terms, at a time and place he dictated, not knowing what Jane
really wanted, especially when they were not friends with Jane.

It also makes absolutely NO SENSE the suspects would go there unarmed (with a SECOND gun on their leg or somewhere else on their body) we didn't see Jane pat them down and look for other weapons.  Also, the 3 dot tattoo seems to not be a very credible clue.

** I think Jane must've realized this when he saw 3 of them had it and 2 did not. maybe he told Bertram, Smith and MacCalister to go over to the other side because he realized that it was either Haffner or Stiles who now had to be Red John!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In
the episode, Devil’s Cherry, Charlotte (Jane’s daughter) shows up and we see
part of the team meet her as well when Jane and Charlotte are talking. We as
viewers see this as part of Jane’s hallucination from ingesting the Belladonna
which is highly probable.

It could also be interpreted as Jane is still in the
mental institution, because Lisbon seems to know who Charlotte is and then when
Jane is surprised at this, they look at Jane and say to Charlotte, Here he goes
again. It could make us wonder if Lisbon and the team are actually doctors in
his hospital and he’s hallucinating that they are members of the CBI with him
hunting Red John.

Also, during the episode, we see Patrick lying
on a hospital bed talking with Charlotte. The part where Charlotte asks Patrick
if anyone knows who he really is and then he says, Lisbon. Part of the time he
was chained down in the bed (& dressed as if in a mental hospital) and part
of the time he isn’t. It made me wonder if The Mentalist has been Jane in the
mental hospital the entire 1-6 years of the show and Charlotte is actually
alive and visiting him in the mental hospital. Could reality be that he’s been in
there the whole time? I hope not. That’s probably a stretch, but it did make me
wonder.

If that’s not it, then
maybe his subconscious or the belladonna was talking to him in Charlotte’s form
to get him to realize how important Lisbon really is in his life and not just
as someone to help him catch Red John.  (We don’t really know for sure because of how
the writers wrote this, but it does get us thinking all sorts of things doesn’t
it?)

I don’t see
a lot of drug references with Haffner, but maybe that is because he is the drug
kingpin! The smarter drug dealers don’t use up their own merchandise. But some
do use their own drugs and perhaps Red John became involved with drugs as a way
to “escape” a troubled upbringing.
Cults like Visualize who are often experts at finding prey who have mother issues and father issues with father figures that young adults are in need of, (ex: Bret for Ray) could take advantage of that and use it
for their personal gain. Then that person could seem in control on the outside,
but inside and in secret they can really be a serial killer. The way the clues
led me personally, made me think 100% that  Ray Haffner is Red John

 (But really, any intriguing,
reasonable, logical storyline Heller wrote with clues that led to the correct
suspect would be satisfying. It’s not so much about WHO Red John turns out to
be, it’s more of HOW did Heller & Co. write the clues and did the clues tie
into the storylines that were written and explain and lead to a satisfying and
believable reveal?)

Which for many of us, hasn’t happened yet.
& for me that hasn’t happened unless Haffner ends up being Red John).

Of course,
this is just my opinion & I’m not pushing it on anyone. But for me, the
clues led to Ray for the reasons stated in my previous posts, as well as:

Considering
Haffner’s background in black ops & surveillance, his age, body type,
handsome face and charming personality, his ties to Visualize, CBI, FBI, most
likely Elliston farm, his competitiveness with Jane, his interest in Lisbon,
injecting himself into cases he has no real business being a part of, getting
funding for his private practice from Brett Stiles/Visualize, how he takes over
Lisbon’s position in CBI and asks Cho who is smarter (asked as a device to see
what the team thinks regarding Jane and how strong their loyalties are to him,
to find out what Jane knows about Red John.)

Faking the fear of the spider,
playing down his intelligence sometimes to fool people into thinking he’s not
as smart as he is when he is very clearly a highly intelligent person as part of
a team or a leader in the FBI, CBI, Black ops, his own business, etc…

Haffner has a
narcissistic and volatile emotional makeup, he fakes concern and is really
furthering his own agenda and trying to gain information he needs (going to
Lisbon’s hospital room). When he said he was headed down a bad path before
joining Visualize, he could be a sociopath hiding in plain sight and I still
feel he is Red John.

These are
just some things I thought about that I compiled in my spare time. (In other
words, when I had time between classes and when The Mentalist went on leave.) Thanks for reading!

Hope Sunday’s show is a good one for all our sakes! :-D

The poem & my sentiments about it ...

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dead grasp,
Dare it's deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who make the lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

This poem completely contradicts Bruno Heller's sentiments about the Red John character. It absolutely points to an unknown entity that has not yet been fully shown to us the audience.

"These people, serial killers ... they are just people. They are not special and to glorify them is not what this show is about"

The poem glorifies the tiger 100% without question. The tiger is beautiful, majestic, glorious and yet it has a horrific capacity for violence & darkness. That is the symmetry: equal beauty & horror.
All work reflects the creator in some way and so the poem asks ... what does such a creation say about the creator? What kind of divine being (immortal hand) could have the capacity to "twist the sinews of thy heart" in such a being? What kind of divine being could have created such beauty and yet such horror. "Did he smile his work to see?"

This poem must have been chosen deliberately before the first episode ...

I cannot understand why this poem was chosen if it was to represent Sheriff Thomas McAllister ... if it was chosen to represent someone who runs and begs for their life ... someone who's opinion of them self has been inflated and is not particularly beautiful and yet horrifically violent and dark.

Tigers do not run. Tigers do not beg for their life. Tigers do not have inflated opinions of themselves.

Whoever ... whatever this poem was meant to represent ... we are unaware of it/him/her. You don't inspire a show from a beautiful poem and give not only a week representation of it but a contradictory one. Especially after you glorified Red John for six and a half seasons ...

Unless Bruno Heller's intent was to quite literally show a man with "delusions of grandeur" who was in fact a pathetic normal person whom did not have the power he assumed in himself, who did not have "real psychic powers" ... unless the poem was meant to represent inflated ego and vanity which is a poor representation of the poem ... then we do not yet know the real Tyger.

I personally love the show regardless and in any case.
