Not a theory, more like a grudge:

This is a post from a Mentalist fan on an article discussing its potential cancellation:

POST-----------------------
Jisbon should have happened along time ago but no so what do the Dumb creator/creators do ''OK RJ is gone now let's give Lisbon a love interest'' Stupid Idiot's.Jane is Lisbon's love interest and visa versa since Season 1 and yet nothing at all for all of these what 5 to 6 years of 6 seasons with what about 22 to 23 episodes per season..What do Jisbon shippers get after waiting all those Years of not just waiting but still following along with each episodes story nothing maybe a O I love you Jane O I love you too Lisbon and maybe a Kiss then walk off in to the sunset. ( Boring, Stupid, Dull, Pathetic, Dumb, Pointless. etc etc ) I didn't ship for just a I love you and maybe a kiss it's been 6 Seasons and that's all we get. This Show can get cancelled it doesn't deserve another Season Dumb creators not giving Shippers anything for Years now.Bye Bye Mentalist.

Watched the latest episode yesterday........... it was a very bad episode to be honest. Had those art thieves made a background check on who owned that house, their identities would have been revealed in an instant. Horrible, horrible writing. The ending however was a bit sad, maybe they were showing us that Patrick hasn't quite moved on yet..............is it because he's afraid or is it because he knows Red John is still alive? I honestly can't see that bloke Marcus pike being anything related to Red John,i mean just take a look at that idiot.

...The fact is, mainstream shows like this are made for the 99%, not the 1% who can piece obscure details together and say "there is more to this story". Unfortunately...Just head to the Facebook fanpage. There are far more people concerned with Jisbon than anything to do with answers about Red John. CBS (The Mentalist's main network) isn't exactly known for breaking this mold and taking risks. I will even go so far as to say CBS to blame as well because they pressured Heller into finishing Red John's arc ASAP.

Unlike some people on this site, however, I can let go and I am actually beginning to accept that money is their first -- and possibly only -- priority. Heller and Co. will bend over backward to please the '99%', or in other words, the majority, even if it picks the continuity of the story apart. The majority do not care about Red John or the many holes left behind in light of the horrible reveal. Yes, thousands of people frequent this site and leave their marks of frustration over this fiasco, but alas we do not constitute the majority of the viewership. It is a sad truth. All I'm saying is, if The Mentalist were a series of novels instead, they would never be published if Heller pulled this stunt.

I do want to suggest a solution, however. In the past, Red John, even though he hates "cheap imitations" of his work, he has allowed his disciples to pretend to be him or give away important information if he knows they will end up dead shortly after. Ideally, then, the real Red John would still be out there and has managed to frame Mcallister so that he will take the fall for his crimes (Thomas Mcallister IS still part of the Blake Association after all, if he were a pawn he could easily be manipulated). Now...We all know how this is a "New Beginning". Specifically, for Jane, at least as far as we've been able to see until now. Wouldn't it be awesome if this were also a "New Beginning" for Red John? Instead of trying to get Jane to befriend him...Red John instead goes straight to the source within the FBI. We have long known that Red John has had a desire to be close to Jane, hence his undying attempts at establishing a "friendship". He would accomplish this in the form of Marcus Pike. The funny thing is...Regardless, we know now that Jane believes he has killed Red John, the single most important thing to him in his life is Lisbon. There is no getting around that! It would be an incredible victory for Red John to not only get close to Jane, but also take away the most important part of his life from him...for a second time! Ultimately, if this were the case it would make SOME sense as to why Lisbon was not only spared in the first episode of the season, but was completely unharmed, when even Kristina Frye was at least left in a catatonic state. Which I still think is nonsense btw. This is the way I would write it. But guys, let's look at this rationally. Obviously, Jisbon is going to happen eventually, and in order for that to come about, something has to be done about Marcus Pike. I just hope it turns out to be something akin to what I described.

Love it or hate it, even though it's not the greatest idea it would still be a far, far, FAR better turn out than the BS we're getting right now, you gotta admit.

I think that Heller changed his mind as they began to get closer to the revel. The Red John phenomenon had been made grand and he was started to be seen as a big deal and somebody whom people worshipped, although the twisted ones mostly. But nevertheless, he had been glorified enough even if in a negative manner that is. So come to think of it, isnt it a dangerous precedent. Ii mean what if some youngster decides that RJ was too cool to be not emulated and started developing homicidal tendencies. Or if someone got justification for their convoluted thinking. That would be dis-service to the society as no one wants to be killed at the hands of a serial killer for fun man..Maybe Heller deliberately wanted to showcase RJ as a weak man and called him a coward and Jane even said he was disappointed. my 2 cents anyway..

Some might find this idea silly, but is there any chance for us, the fans of the show to contact Bruno Heller?I mean, obviously the show isn't going to change before it ends. So, at least I would like to ask Heller some questions myself, to conclude what's on his mind. How he sees the whole thing. His point of view eventually.

For example answers about the show.Answers that we, the fans demand to know.I mean, The Mentalist is his own creation, so above all he could just fill the plot holes off-screen just to please the fans.Something like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory when he called the producer of a TV-series that was canceled to learn how it was about to end. :P

I think that Heller isn't stupid. He managed to create a nice plot and develop it to something addictive to watch. But eventually he screwed up and I' d like to know why.

If i were an optimist, i would look in these things for a slightest little hope:

- how Red John knew who will be in Patrick's shortlist EVEN BEFORE Patrick? We never got the real answer. Season 5 ended with that bang and as much as I wanted to know who is Red John, i also wanted to know how he knew those names. That thing is still huge!

- the mysterious USB flash drive containing what? All we know it was found in Gale Bertram's secret room (but we saw that lady addressed him as Thomas, why?) and if you look better that scene, I don't even think Gale was aware of that flash drive. However, even though flash drive is somehow connected to Red John, we've already seen Patrick using it to get his terms with Abbot so I kinda doubt they will ever revisit that flash drive, don't know..

- and final thing - last Red John words: ''I have real psychic powers''. That was the biggest anti-climax moment for me. This is not a sci-fi show and if you watched the show from beginning, Patrick said numerous times ''There's no such thing as real psych'' and we all know it! And not to mention, Red John actually killed his wife and daughter just because he was pretending to be psych and badmouthed him on TV. That last sentence from Red John doesn't add up to the whole show, no way.

BUT, on the other hand, the fact we never really got to know how Stiles knew where was Kristina Frye kept, and they let him die without ever telling us, makes me believe it is over and kills my any hope i will get any other answer, they just don't care. I mean that thing was huge back then. in any normal tv show that would come to line to be answered at some point.
