Well, the finale wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Have to admit that I didn't see the fake letter coming.  On the other hand it certainly wasn't good enough to hook me for season 7.

The best line of the whole episode was of course Cho's cat comment.

Sadly (for me), the direction of the final season will obviously be geared towards Jisbon.  The woman on the plane ironically summed it up with "Every woman on this plane is green with envy".

That's nice, but I'm a guy and that has watched every episode from season 1 episode 1, all it did was make me green with nausea.

I'm moving on to The Arrow and The Flash this fall. They're not murder mysteries, but the writers on The Arrow have successfully demonstrated how to plan and execute story arcs that are complex yet resolve in a manner that actually makes sense.

I'll probably drop by this site occasionally to see if there are any RJ hopefuls still clinging to life support.  However, I've officially pulled the plug on my hope.

Thanks to everybody who posted theories that made sense (obviously Heller didn't post them) and the person who created this site for the original hardcore fans.

To all the shippers, enjoy your new procedural soap opera.  No hard feelings, you people didn't kill this show, it was Heller who gave all of us original fans the finger by refusing to tie all the important clues together in the Red John reveal parody.

Heller: "Most of the fans will be satisfied with the episode, a minority won't"
I guess we (red john saga fans) are the minority, right? They never cared about what we think, but they do care about what "Jisbon" fans think. They ruined the show long ago, but they never cared about that because the affected ones were the "minority". Well, I'm "happy" for "Jisbon" fans, those who waited patiently 6 years for this. I feel sorry for Baker, because I have the feeling that he wanted to do the RJ thing diferent. Goodbye Mentalist, goodbye...

i'm done! that was absolutely terrible!!! jisbon?!?!? really?! never again will i watch anything that heller has to do with.. regardless of how good it is.. fuck that!!!!
i feel betrayed.. i put so much more effort and loyalty into this relationship with the mentalist than the writers & producers! thank God for my other shows i have to watch.. although no show will be able to replace the original mentalist..

maybe the show would've turned out better if people got off this site, which the writers/producers don't see, and voiced their opinions on twitter/facebook.. it's a direct contact with the show.. the people who take the time to tweet or fb them are the losers that started watching 2 years ago and actually wanted the LAME jisbon storyline to take place

i take the time to express how HORRIBLE the show is now on those outlets..

guess it really doesn't matter anymore since i can no longer watch this piece of shit that was once a gem!

I totally understand the frustration of those who had hoped for answers or at least somthing that might indicate they still intend to give any.

While I am not a big fan of the episode as such I get why they wrote it like that.

The RJ fanbase was getting weakener at the latest during season 5, because people where tired of waiting for an answer to the riddle. The majority of them wouldn't have accepted for this arc to be extended into season 7. In an interview from 2009 Heller stated that the conclusion of RJ would be a series ender rather then a season ender.

Baker and Tunny both had contracts for 7 seasons so they had a vested interest to get another season. While the RJ crowd deminished,  JIsbon shippers were a consistent and loyal fanbase. It made sense to use a good portion of the season to further build that base with the hope to get renewed for season 7 and it worked! Blue Bird was the well earned reward for this part of the fanbase. To be honest it was the Jisbon shippers that kept the show on the air.

With the season finale playing out like it did most will have given up hope for further answers. I am not one of them and here is how I would connect the season finale to the RJ story line.

Janes big romantic gesture, the crying, the confessions of love were a con with the single purpose to keep Lisbon around.
The reason to keep her around would either be that he is investigating Lisbon as a possible RJ or her being an important piece of leverage against RJ.

The fake letter was his attempt to keep her around by only giving her a romantic gesture and avoid commiting to anything more concrete. Once this attempt failed he had to go all in.

Notice his very composed and manipulative facial expression in that last scene before Lisbon enters the room. Also once she brings up the subject Jane returns to being  as evasive as possible with out risking to make her change her mind. In the very last seconds he avoids repeating what he said on the plane and instead leans in to kiss her.

So in essence there are two major fanbases the RJ camp and the Jisbon camp. He can't give the RJ camp without destroying any possibility for season 7 so he gives the Jisbon people what they crave.

Even Dexter's finale was better than this.
