I am 75% sure that Kristina Frye is RJ for many reasons:

1. She is the only smart person that can be compared with PJ, even though she is pretending to be a psychic, she is intelligent and may be RJ.

2. In season 1 red john was known to be a male when the dead guy drew with blood on the wall " he is man", RJ wont let such thing happen so he or she would write it to confuse the CBI.

3. When Kristina talked about RJ on live TV and then put to protection, she disappeared under unknown conditions and it is possible that she escaped by herself because it is hard to kidnap without attention.

The chase between Red John & Patrick Jane despite being fictional, is regarded as the best I've witnessed. Obsession is a good word that would describe the mentalist for me. I would like to pass some simple observations regarding Red John. I strongly believe RJ is somehow related to PJ. He saved him from murder. He wants PJ to stay in the pursue and he wants to only be caught by PJ. Red John cares about Jane. Red John is a right handed skilled shooter, possibly trained by an agency(How he shot those who were trying to murder PJ in season 2 finale). Red John has an artistic/magical type of character. Killing PJ is too easy for him, he just loves playing at a mind level and is fond of Patrick in that sense. Something I also recognized, Red John never calls PJ by his family name but always by his first name. Probably  they know each other for a long time now? I believe that Kirkland is a good guy that also wants to catch Red John. Kirkland upon his first exposure in the mentalist, wanted to stay in the loop for RJ information. Then he wanted lisbon to back off from the Volker case. I think he is like Jane in the sense that he wants to catch RJ and sees him as a challenge.Of course that is just my humble opinion. The writers have made the mentalist an environment for many many suspect able to be RJ and I think that we won't get any closer to RJ unless the very end now that The Mentalist has been renewed for a 6th season.

Lately we have seen Betram working with an FBI guy who is part of Visualize. It would make sense that RJ isn't one person but many people. This would a) make him/them hard to pin down b) with so many inner connections they could always be one step ahead c) they might even think someone else in their group is RJ and they just work in unison to ensure no one gets close d) when one of them gets too close to losing it, they get offed and e) they can keep their enemies..like Jane..close. Jane has a list of suspects. Maybe the whole list is RJ. It is one big group trying to keep the peace but getting rid of those who threaten their way.

Kirkland probably knows who is rj because he did not ask Lennon about him.
As rj is higher up in the system, Kirkland cant do anything to bring him down..
he might have killed Lennon because if he would have lived he would have gone to jail and rj might have freed him like he freed Martins.Kirkland ,i think, is on the good side ,he could just be saving pj by not letting him know who is rj,as pj would kill him as soon as he knows rj's identity.
