LATEST THEORIES

lets really think about it . the whole objetive of the series is to find red john, and it has been like that ever since the begining of the series, from season 1. this can only mean one thing. in tv series, we generally see the three main characters at the begining. who are the main characters of TM? . Patrick Jane, Teresa Lisbon, and off course, Red John. what does this mean? that if the point of the series is to find Red john, that means that he has been under our noses all the time, SINCE SEASON 1. red john appeared in every episode of season, his importance in the series gives him the need to appear in season one. my guess, Virgil Minelli. Another thing, what happened to Brenda since we saw that she was corrupt and allied with Tommy Volker? i have the feeling that is not the last we will see her. she might be also be friends with RJ.

It would be just so cool to find that Red John is Dexter Morgan, after escaping from Miami (because of the mess that has happened) and that he "hypothetically" killed his sister, thus making him kill other women (for some crazy reason).
Two geniuses from two series, meet 3:-)

Red John seems to be a narcissitic and really intelligent Psychopath.
Wikipedia says the following points are typical characteristics of such psychopath:
-Glibness/superficial charm
-Grandiose sense of self-worth
-Pathological lying
-Cunning/manipulative
And thats exactly how I and I think most of you see Red John.. No weaknesses, a bit intimidating, powerful.
It would be a dissapointing finale if a person like Bertram, Minally, or also Brett Pettridge (he can't be red john: http://youtu.be/k26u5EOWWTU ) was Red John. The only person having those charcteristics so far is Brett Stiles (and Jane but he isn't red john; would be too dissapointing, too).
There are enaugh episodes with him that the audience will know him, he is a good friend and competitor of Jane and Jane and Bret know each other for longer.
Thats of course no proof that he is red john but maybe proof that the other suspects are unlikely red john.

I don't think RJ is a specific person. I think RJ is an idea influenced under a few people, or even a larger group of people. Whether that group is under the influence of vizualize, I don't know, but I do know that RJ can't be one single person.

This isn't a theory, but it's something I'm noticing.

Go back through any episodes you care to re-watch, from as far back as you can. Notice how many times you hear the word "visualize," used in conversation, either in interrogation or otherwise.  In the past week I've noticed it twice, once from the episode "Red Badge" (spoken by Roy Carmen) and once in the episode "Red Gold" (spoken by Wes Atwood).

This can't be a coincidence.  Visualize is a big part of the puzzle, folks.
