Once when Grace meets the head of the Visualize cult in the prison cell, they share a strange chemistry. He seems to recognize her as being angry and teaches her some breathing excercises. Also, when Craig O laughlin is shot by Grace, he doesnt pull at the necklace he gave her. He is reaching out to her in love as he knows that she was Red John and he was willing to die for her.

Here is My husbands theory, those of you who are die hard mentalist fans like my husband and I are, may have noticed that in almost every episode there is a glimpse of an extra named CBI Ron. He has several speaking parts, one liners and what not. Here is our question, Why would a show have a reoccurring extra through out all 4 seasons of The Mentalist. His presence is over powering and once you notice him you will always see glimpses. He is always around when the team is working, and knows the ins and outs of the CBI. The writers want you to suspect all of the obvious people, and maybe they do have a roll to play with Red John. But they are there to keep you eyes away from the real Red John, this CBI Ron! Just you wait and see!

In the final episode from last season, the voice of Red John is Eric Stoltz.

I have perfect pitch and easily recognized him.

He hasn't been introduced as a character yet.

By William Blake
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare sieze the fire?
And what shoulder, & what art.
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And watered heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?
Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

I think that Patrick could be Red John. At least that's what writers want us to think.

I really have just one thing to add to all existing Patrick=Red theories.

As many have pointed out one possibility is that Jane suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID). There are several dissociative disorders which are closely related to one another and if you have one there is great risk of having another. Patrick has already had an episode of dissociative amnesia/fugue in one episode so we know that he has a strong tendency to dissociate.

Well, just finished season  4......I always had a hunch about bertram being RED JOHN specially after the poem incident where he quotes lines from the same poem i.e. William Blake's as Red John does....
Now,if you happen to watch the season finale of season 4 closely, you can't help noticing that Jane,Lisbon,Van Pelt,Rigsby and Cho are out of the question.
The final scene shows a white police cruiser speeding fast alongside Jane and Lisbon with a big bulky man at the wheels, which in my opinion,is Bertram.Zoom in and check it out.

Just a thought but when CBI discover the body in the bathroom in S1, maybe the writing says 'He is Mar' not 'Man'.

When Rebecca goes to see Bosco in hospital to shoot him, she say's hello to a man called Marty and smiles.
