I would like to "pick" your brains ...
If you could, i would love for you to give me your suspect and the reasons on the coments ...
Tell me just the reasons that we know and try not to assume any thing ...
Besides ... don't exclude anyone ... The main idea would be to collect suspects, motives and "proofs" or circumstances ... And then organize it ...
Then we would try to exclude the suspects with facts (without any assumptions) ...
And then maybe, together, we could be able to get a reduced group of suspects ... a "top 7" (Red John - 7 letters) ...
:D hope you agree to help me

"First I want to express my disappointment if it turns out that PJ has two personas and one of those is RJ.  I also truly hope that the story line does not involve PJ and some sort of psychotic break.  It will be a travesty if the series concludes with either of these endings.

Just some notes and observations...

Rosalind Harker - If one were to shorten Rosalind to Rosa (Rose) one would find another writing by William Blake titled "The Sick Rose".  Google and read the poem.  It could be a hint that Red John is real (not her) as well as being Rosalind's boyfriend.

Many people (most) believe that in the season four finale, Red John sped by in a LVPD Police Car.  Well, when PJ is in the Limo and is greeted by RJ's voice, PJ first hears "Debonair at all costs...".  If you notice in the seen where the CBI/FBI teams drive by, the street sign reads Debonair St.  Which means that RJ may have been present in the area during the limo interaction.

In circa 1988 the Bloody Smiley Face (Watchmen Style) was quite popular in the house music scene.  Acid House music to be specific, which has often been described as hypnotic/trance-like and mind-altering music due to unique beats.

Also of note, the Galle Crater on the planet Mars appears in the Watchmen graphic novel.  The crater resembles a Smiley Face.  There is a Watchmen movie titled "fearful Symmetry".

There is a convicted killer known as the "Happy Face Killer".
There is also "Smiley Face" murder theory, where alleged murders are believed to have been committed by an organized group of killers responsible for over 100 deaths.

So that got me thinking more about the name Red John.

Revelation 6:3-4
3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”
4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.

The book of Revelation was written by John.  Thus, Red Horseman = Red John.

Also of note is the words "Its rider was given power" may indicate that RJ was given the power by someone greater than RJ.

Here are my 7 suspects:

Gale Bertram: He specifically chose the sentence "reaching end of the rope" at mall at season4 finale so that Jane would understand that the real friend is not Bertram himself, but Craig. If he didn't say that sentence, Van Pelt, Hightower, Lisbon would be dead. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Judge Manchester: Remember Bertram quoted a poem by William Blake? He can't be a fool to read the poem on purpose after the famous "Tyger Tyger" thing. He must have heard it somewhere and liked it and wanted to use it. From whom did Gale hear the poem? Of course during a poker party from Judge Manchester.

Robert Kirkland: The famous Kirkland, who has been interested in Jane and RJ case for years, since Jane joined the team. To cover his mistakes, he might be trying to get as much info as he can from the team to always be a step ahead.

Walter Mashburn: Limos, connections. These require money and charm for sure, and Walter has them. He doesn't have a full time job, so he can do whatever he wants without taking much attention.

Brett Partridge: Introduced us in the pilot episode, he has the chances of being RJ. Although we know nothing about him, it is likely that the writers made us meet RJ in the first season, because you never know if the series would continue. His occurences in RJ related episodes is another interesting thing.

Ellis Mars: Oh the good old Ellis Mars. He knew there would be other killings, and was in a case there murders were about moon phases. It should be noted that Patrick's family was murdered when it was a full moon. He also gave Jane a handwritten personal business card, showing that he is interested in Jane. He was also in same town with Todd, who was a friend of RJ.

Linus Wagner: He had to kill to save thousands of kids in Africa. Timoty Carter, the fake RJ, is thought to have lived in Africa. Wagner is the only RJ copycat to survive. Also, he is in prison and hence as the best alibi to make people think he is not RJ. With connections, he might be able to get in-out easily.

These are my suspects. I don't think anyone else can be RJ, so this is my complete list. I can't have an 8th one because I can't find anyone else to add to list. If the revealed list will be different than mine, then I will think that only the names common in my list and Bruno's list can be RJ.

My feelings at the moment say that it is Linus Wagner. Timothy Carter was talking about retiring and helping children. Wagner is also helping children. And this can be the higher path RJ was talking about. Saving children, saving the future and the world. It is a good cause to die for. If you talk about RJ's identity, thousands of kids die. So your only option is to die or you become murderer of thousands of kids.

Hope you like it!

I still think it's Grace. Besides what has already been said, isn't it suspicious that nothing really has happened with Red John while the actress has been on maternity leave?

I don't think that its possible to spin this out for much longer without losing the audience so I think the identity of rj will be revealed by the end of this series. However, as there will be another series there will have to be a twist that stops the team arresting him. We know that rj has people in all areas of government so I think that they will find some way of discrediting the team. In which case they will have to go rogue in order to catch rj and clear their names in the next series (this is what I hope will happen anyway as they all have to play by jane's rules).
As for rj. We know that from the red barn episode that jr started as a disciple of stiles. So rj's organization is likely to be a splinter of visualize, using the same mental tricks and discipline but with dedicated to killing. Such an organization is likely to be very useful to organizations such as homeland/CIA etc and so could be providing training or operatives for them. Whereby the rj killings could be the final part of the training. This would be supported by the exchange between kirkland and Bertram in I think it was 'there will be blood' where kirkland asked can we trust her. And Bertram answered I wouldn't trust anyone with this.
I also want to know what's the deal with Laroche. He is definitely hiding something. And what was in his safe anyway? We never did find out. I can so easily see him as rj as he is clearly intelligent enough and have similar interests. He's easily a match for pj. And his lack of personality could easily be a cover to hide a more vibrant personality. But somehow I doubt it. I definitely believe we haven't seem the last of him.

Now, what everyone seems to forget when disapproving the theory that Jane could be Red John is that he does not have to be Red John all the time.
Most arguments used to disapprove this theory are that they cannot be at 2 places at once.
Now, what we have witnessed throughout the past 5 seasons is that RJ NEVER does ANYTHING. he has people doing it for him!
Now if I was Jane/RJ and I wanted to keep this a secret i would certainly too make it seem like i as jane was at one place while RJ were at another, to rule this theory out. keep in mind that Jane is one of the smartest people on this show - he is very intuitive, and he is always one step ahead. why wouldnt he be one step ahead as RJ too?
He definitely cant be ruled out - i thought so when lorelai said that she would find RJ (she said this to jane) but then i realised that up until then it has never been the real RJ it has always been someone in place of him. maybe the person lorelai thought was RJ was just another stand-in.
remember that if it really is Jane you would have no way of being sure - he's that good.
