LATEST THEORIES

Let me start by saying this:

1) If it's Sheriff McAllister, I'd be dissapointed. We haven't seen him since s1 e01 - as much as he was a hardcore creep to Van Pelt... no.

2) If it's Reed Smith...wait...who's Reed Smith?

HOWEVER, I could honestly see the rest of them (with, or without Partridge) being connected. Stiles runs visualize, of which Ray Haffner is a member. Kirkland and Bertram have a connection through the promise between Kirkland and Minelli to stay in touch about the case. They're all high-rank individuals, in one way or another.

Not sure about Partridge. He's no mastermind - he may be another tool, though.

WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT RED JOHN SO FAR:

Red John is most likely a man. He appears to be a Caucasian, and is a white person as described by HaleyRed John has an average height: Rosalind described him as "just under 6 feet tall"Red John has short straight hair (as described by Rosalind Harker)Red John either has or puts on an odd, high pitched and soft voiceRed John should be older than 30 years (since his murders date back to the 90's). He used to work in the circus, he has mind reading tricks (like Jane) and is very clever. He is also cocky (but may not show it). He is controlling (he got upset that Jane broke the rules thus he "changed" the rules thus episode name Red Johns Rules). ( The guy who didnt get the child in Red Johns rules said that maybe Red John has powers like him and his family and its non fake, he could know Red John or Red John could be in his family).

He has gone by the alias "Roy Tagliaferro," the name by which Harker knows him. This name may be related to his work with iron, as Virgil Minelli first realizes "Tagliaferro" means "cut iron" (edited 25. april2013 Taglio is cutting and ferro is instrument - seems more like that then cut iron) in Italian. He has also used the pseudonym "DR. JOE N.H." (an anagram of Red John) or "Doctor Joe in New Hampshire" when accessing the CBI secure network. He appears to be caucasian. This from the appearance of his bare hands (drinking tea in the season 1 episode "Red John's Footsteps") which appear to be that of a Caucasian male.He is literate in the poetry of William Blake (Red John quoted one line from the poem The Tyger to Jane at the end of season 2. This same line was spoken by another Red John associate, Todd Johnson, directly to Jane shortly before Johnson died.)He works occasionally with others. His first known accomplice was named Orville Tanner, though Tanner died in prison. Tanner's son, Dumar, appears in the episode "Red John's Footsteps" as another friend of Red John. Other accomplices of Red John have been revealed as the series has progressed, including some inside the CBI itself (Sam Bosco's secretary Rebecca in the episode "The Scarlett Letter"), others outside the CBI who admire him and perform their own murders, such as Todd Johnson (who appears in the episode "Red Moon"), some whose inside information may have provided Red John with detailed data on Jane and his CBI team (such as Craig O'Laughlin who is revealed to be a Red John operative in Strawberries and Cream Part 2), and still others who have been "sent" to speak with Jane but who presumably are not yet murderers themselves (such as Lorelei Martins in "The Crimson Hat".) Each of these "disciples" as Jane calls them ("Red John doesn't have friends. He has tools.") has seemed to exhibit fierce, near complete loyalty to Red John.He may have extensive knowledge of computers, or may employ a colleague with such knowledge to assist him, as he has on several occasions accessed (either through hacking or the assistance of an insider) what Agent Grace Van Pelt refers to as the "CBI secure network" (the first time this occurred was in the season 1 episode "Red John's Friends").In his criminal history, Red John's initial way of killing was to use a handheld linoleum cutter. A "textbook Red John" murder (according to Agent Kimball Cho in the series Pilot), consisted, at that time, of the use of a stun gun to subdue the victim, followed by "binding with tight black plastic ligatures, frenzied cutting and stabbing assault of the torso, and subsequent abuse of the viscera." If his victim is sleeping, Red John is believed to wake them to see the look of fear. Though this was Red John's early style of murder, in subsequent seasons he has killed by other means, including the use of poison and, in at least one instance, a handgun.

HERE is how Red John known of the list: EITHER: 1) Bob Kirkland works for Red John or Red John is keeping tabs on him too OR2) All 7 of them work for Red John and it supports the whole "Red John is a clan of people" theory.Either way Bob Kirkland is GREATLY involved in this and is a key into finding Red John.

FYI - Lorelai died before Kirkland copied Jane's research. So I don't it it was that way that revealed his 7 suspects.

Disappointed that Mashburn, Ardiles, & the Judge aren't on the list of suspects...
...Reede Smith? Sheriff? WTF

Show this theory

Definitely Red John or his main accomplice as he had access to Jane's room and stole information. So he knows what Jane knows and that is why he puts those names on the CD.

It feels good that at least some names are out as to who could be Red John.
