LATEST THEORIES

I think the whole premise on which the list is based is wrong. Patrick is considering only those people who he shook hands with after his family was killed. But he could have met red john way before any of it  even started. From the list he made, none of the suspects are the "mentalist" kind. They don't have the same skill set as patrick. Red john is his nemesis and has to be very similar to him. Frankly speaking he treats all  of them with an air of superiority and if any one of them was actually red john...he would have found it insulting considering how touchy he is!

Ok one of the clues states that Red John is "just under 6ft tall."  That being said i took the list of seven suspects and looked up all their heights and here is what I found.

Brett Stiles- 5'8.5"
Gale Bertam- 6' 3"
Robert Kirkland- 5' 9"
Sheriff McAllister- 6''
Brett Partridge- 5' 11"
Ray Haffner- 6'1"
Reede Smith 6'3"

If you go by height alone you can rule out Bertram, McAllister, Haffner and Smith.  That leaves Brett Stiles, Robert Kirkland and Brett Partridge.
Next you can rule out Brett Stiles because of his age leaving Robert Kirkland and Brett Partridge.
I think Brett Partridge is Red John simply because he and Jane have never liked each other.

After reading countless theories I feel that It may be obvious in choosing Brett Partridge but I feel they will add a twist. What if Partridge is a half brother of Janes. Janes father (who we dont hear mentioned enough) could have had another son with similar talents to Janes. The last episode seemed adiment in bringing up Patrick's youth.  Brett seems like a mirror image of Jane and It wouldn't shock me if we start to learn more about Janes' father early next season and it comes to fruition with The Jane family all being involved.

I think that Patrick made that video with Lorelei.  There were a few things that were a little off about it:

-The absence of Red John in the video.  Lorelei read the whole note herself.  Red John did not hand her the note, she picked it up herself.  The camera seems to be set up (not being held by anyone).  It seems like Patrick has set it up so that he leaves no evidence that it was him making the video.
--why did Lorelei have to read Red John's words?  wouldn't it be much more powerful if Red John read them himself?  wouldn't he want to scare Patrick a little bit by being in the video (and wouldn't it have made for a WAYYY better episode if the fans got to SEE Red John on the video!!?)

-The destroying of the CD.  After watching the video with Lisbon, he destroys the CD in disgust like he's baffled and frustrated by it....but REALLY, he destroyed the CD to get rid of any evidence that would link the CD to himself making it.  (and it was easy to pretend like he destroyed it out of anger and frustration in front of Lisbon)

-This one has been brought up by a lot of people:  The foster home lady being let go in the back of a police car with no other supervision, no more questions, no sense of urgency....Whenever there is somebody linked to Red John, Patrick is OBSESSED with talking to them and finding out EVERYTHING that he can from them to get closer to Red John.  With this lady, there was none of that.  No sense of urgency, not a lot of questioning, no follow-up...the only tricky part is that they showed her swallowing a pill at the end....If she was a part of Patrick's plan, why would she kill herself?  Maybe she didn't kill herself...they didn't show anything after she swallowed the pill, so who knows...

-All of the "reaching into Patrick's mind" stuff is a little strange.  I don't know how Red John could have had the exact 7 names (there are some possibilities), but it makes me think that it was really just Patrick giving the names to Lorelei to read...

There are, however, a few flaws and holes in this theory of mine:

-How would Patrick know that Red John is going to kill a happy memory of his?   Did Patrick use the assistance of some of his carnival friends to pull this off?  Maybe that woman who died had NOTHING to do with Patrick's past, but he used it as a ruse to fool Lisbon and everybody into thinking that Red John was one step ahead of him and in his head.

-If Patrick made the tape with Lorelei, then why is she dead and why did Patrick say that she had it coming to her?  Maybe after they made the tape, she still felt compelled to go kill RJ?  Who knows...

Personally, like many of you, I was pretty upset with the Finale...We didn't see Red John at all, or hear his voice, it was just finding out the 7 names...Nothing else was exciting about it, or gave us much new information...They tried to make it interesting with the "Reading Patrick's mind" stuff, but that just confused everybody.
Hopefully the way that they explain everything next season will be exciting and informative, but I was pretty disappointed with season 5 overall.  From the stories, to the 2 or 3 week breaks in between new episodes, to the lack of Red John...I just didn't like season 5 as much...
When does season 6 start?

I would say fairly that the season finaly removes Bob Kirkland from the list.

Presumably, Red John would have know who Jane's 7 suspects were while Laureli Martin was still alive, therefore, if Kirkland was Red John, then he wouldn't have needed to break in to Jane's room and steal the information, as he would have already figured it out at that point.

One other point however: The reveal at the end of the episode you see the video playing and Jane dropping the photos. You don't actually know that those are the same 7 as on Jane's list. Maybe only a few of the names Red John listed cross over, therefore shortening the list.

I'm going with Bret Stiles for a number of reasons:
I feel that the wording in the video is very suggestive of his speach style. He has the means and the ability to control people and 'brain wash' them. They way the RJ followers we have seen act, they all act like the mindless cult people as well.

Guess we will see one day!

This season changed the game. It's not who is red John anymore. The mystery of who is not important anymore, because for Jane to catch him, he will have to discover the how and the why is red John to discover his identity. The fact is, that for Red John to do this, he has to be manipulative and a showman. Meaning that any of those 7 can be red John . Jane has been able to do amazing things , and it appears red John has been able to stay ahead of him. The questions are now........

Why does Red John kill?
How did he choose his victims and know intimate details about them?
How did he meet his accomplices?
How does he have such a strong hold on law enforcement?
Why is Red John still toying with Jane?
Why did Red John stop killing except for protecting his secret? If he is doing this out of a serial desire and pride, he wouldn't have tried to hide and would have resumed killing even after Jane killed carter.
How does Red John know what Jane is thinking?
Etc.......,,,,,,.,
Truth be told, this guy is putting on a show. So any of the 7 could be red John and they all could work with red John.
This guy has contacts in law inforcement. Bertram, Haffner, smith, Kirkland,Mccallister, partridge,.
Visualize also has contacts in law enforcement which includes Bret Stiles and Haffner. No clue of any other evidence because we don't have it yet. Just a lot of maybe's and guesses. I wouldn't rule out anyone because the writers have set it up that it could still be anybody and any clues that don't fit could be explained by the misdirection of a master manipulator. It will be exciting to see the conclusion of this story and the answers to all the how's and why's which will be more important than the who. Brilliant
