LATEST THEORIES

It's possible that the names we saw in Jane's notebook eariler in the season were actually Jane's narrowed down list before he eliminated more and got it down to seven. That would be an interesting twist on Heller's part

Removing Morning because he didn't make the 30 suspects and he's dead gives us Partridge, Mars, Harken, Cooper, Mashburn, Molinari, Wagner, Minelli, & Ardiles. Wagner was in prison and has an alibi and Jane told Lisbon that Ardiles wasn't on the list.

That would leave

Partridge
Mars
Harken
Cooper
Mashburn
Molinari
Minelli

with the possibility of 1-2 of the names being different or replaced with other names . . .

If Jane had narrowed down his list as early as when we saw the notebook, than it left the rest of the season for Jane to orchestrate an elaborate con on RJ. Jane would've assumed that RJ would questioned Lorelei until she realized that she'd told Jane that RJ and Jane had shook hands at which point she would've told RJ. Jane knew that once RJ realized Jane was making a list, RJ would feel the need to steal the list. So Jane set up an elaborate con of pretending to spend all his time in the loft supposedably narrowing down his list. Jane got locks on the door, kept Lisbon and everyone else out, started acting very secretive, and avoided working on the team's murder cases. This would've acted like a radio broadcast to RJ that Jane was doing something important. Jane was planting a fake list for RJ to steal because Jane knows that RJ is far too careful to allow Jane to actually have a list with RJ's name. If RJ had seen the his name on the list, he would've killed Jane and the whole team just in case they'd seen the list. The game would've finally been too dangerous.

Now between the time Lorelei was caught by RJ and told him that Jane had a list and the few weeks before RJ killed Lorelei, RJ breaks in and steals Jane's list. Jane does not notice and continues with his charade of narrowing down the list. It was only when Kirkland's guys broke into the loft and left the toothpick on the ground that Jane finally believes his trap worked. After that episode, it only takes Jane two episodes to wrap up the farce of narrowing down the list because there's no longer a point as Jane believes RJ just stole the list. The season final showed that RJ had indeed fallen for Jane's fake list and that Jane was finally one step ahead of RJ even with the revelation that RJ had stolen Jane's list episodes earlier without Jane noticing at all.
Just think about the past season finals. In the S3 final, RJ wins by tricking Jane into killing a fake RJ and almost getting O'Laughlin to kill Lisbon, Van Pelt, and HIghtower. Jane's plan was tricky but not good enough (the whole team & audience knew about the plan). In the S4 final it's a stalemate with Jane fooling RJ up until that last minute and RJ losing control of the situation resulting in Lorelei's capture (Jane does tell a soul except Lisbon, the audience had no idea it was a fake breakdown until then). It would only make logical sense that for the S5 final, Jane's plan is finally elaborate enough to completely fool RJ and Jane hasn't told Lisbon or the team and the audience has no idea.

I believe Partridge is more likely to be Red John, mainly for 2 reasons:

1, He is not meant to be the obvious choice.  He has only appeared in very few episodes, but "key" ones-the pilot episode and 2 season finale ones. Episodes which are connected to Red John one way or the other. There must be a reason we only see him only there. I mean where is he in all the other crime scenes?

2. If you take season 2 finale and compare Partridge's voice in the beginning and Red Jonh's at the end of the episode, I believe you will find astounding similarities. Red John's voice is more clear and articulate, but tone and pitch are very alike

how do you guys know that RJ is even on the list of final seven, i mean its possible that jane has mistaken and erased him from the list. If Rj is on the list than my guesses are next : Kirkland isnt red john for sure because lorelei didnt know that patrick shook hands with him also when he murdured that guy in the hospital the guy didnt recognised him and we know that the guy knows who red john is so he would recognise him.

It would be stupid if Reede Smith is RJ , i dont believe its him.
The same goes for sherif McAllister. I think that RJ must have appeared in at least two episodes

The other 4 guys are all plausible.
Gale Bertram probably isnt because he is bald and the blind lady said that RJ has hair so i would dismiss him.

I think that Rj acts stupid so jane does not figure out his identity.
Ray Haffner was easily tricked so he is plausible.
brett stiles always acts smart and i have a feeling that he will help patrick catch RJ in the next season.
and we have partidge. he could be RJ, he also plays dumb (he didnt know that the killer in the first episode is copycat of RJ) and he annoys jane.

But i am still wondering what happened to that writing on the wall in mexico.
I thought that they would bring that up now when they have more clues about RJ.

Bertram is Red John because:

-He is on the list of 7 suspects
-He drinks tea
-He is the director of CBI so he has power
-When he first met Jane he called him boy wonder which is what Jane's father used to call him and if
Bertram knows that it explains how Red John knew about Jane's past on the season 5 finale.
-On the Season 3 finale Bertram mentioned the word rope which gave the clue to Jane that O'Laughlin was the CBI mole and that led to Jane being framed which is what Red John wanted because he told Jane the Tyger Tyger poem.
-Jane said Red John would be at the mall at the end of the season finale and because Timothy Carter wasn't Red John then Red John was actually there which leaves Bertram.
-Bertram is familiar with the William Blake poem
-Its likely that Bob Kirkland works for Red John and on season 5 we see that Bertram has some kind of friendship with him when they was trying to figure out what Lisbon and Jane was up to
-Bertram helped in trying to frame Hightower in 3x16 when he informed La Roche about Hightower's relationship with one of Todd Johnson's victims
-He is the right age going off when Red John killed his first victim in the 80s which is shown in 5x13
-The episode where Bertram shook Jane's hand was was wrote by Bruno Heller.
-As the CBI director he can watch Jane's every move and take him off any case he wants so he has power over Jane

Yes Bertram is over 6ft and he is half bald but Rosalind Harker met Red John before season 1 and because she is blind it makes her unreliable. Bruno Heller has also said that some clues left to Red John's identity are fake so what if the height is a fake clue that would mean there isn't much points to make about him not being Red John.

Hi All ,

I just have a few questions to ask.

What if the suspect list by Patrick is a trick to fool Lisbon!

Maybe he finally realises that the key to catching red john might lye with Lisbon maybe he fooled her into thinking Red John guessed his seven suspects. She has been acting very suspicious in the last few episodes. Also in the scene where Craig O Laughlin is shot he could have killed Lisbon but he shot her in the shoulder a cop missing from that range it was harder to shoot her in the shoulder than in a place that could have killed her. She said to Patrick i have dark secrets that u could never imagine. Somethings just don't add up we all know how intelligent Patrick is he left the toothpick on his door. Heller is not going to tell us that a big twist is coming maybe he is playing us all.

Lots of things also don't add up with Lorelei no gun shoot wound on her dead body and no bruises on her face like in the video did they just dissapear?

You can clearly see that from this image here.

I was just wondering if i could get other peoples thoughts on this. Please comment

It is impossible that Red John knows about the only happy memory from Jane's childhood and about his list of 7 suspects, so there remain just 2 possibilities:
- Red John is Jane himself
- Jane made the video with Lorelei himself and lied about his connection to the dead woman. He probably knows the victim from childhood, but lied about his "Happy memory".

If the second possibility is true, why is Jane doing all this? Why is he lying to Lisbon? I think that Red John is nobody from the list of 7 suspects. I think he just wants to get rid of Lisbon by telling her some lies to investigate in calm in other directions.
