It's ALEX JANE.
Patrick Jane's father.

Nobody else knows Patrick better than him.
Alex taught all he knew about about being a mentalist/psychic, when they were living together 24x7 in the fair, carnival lifestyle.

Alex is very good manipulating minds, with no regrets and no feelings.
Actually he has no feelings for his own son Patrick neither!.
His father is also known to be very focused in getting money and spending it gambling or playing poker. In example, the night they sell the cristal/mineral to the dying young girl at the fair in the tent. This is a psyco mind profile, no empathy or feelings for a dying child that needs real help.

As long as Patrick abandoned the carnival, and he was key part of the mentalist show at the fair, his father lost a very important part of his way of life to get money.
So, in a way, Patrick took/stole to his father what he most loved or needed.

In revenge, Alex Jane took what Patrick most loved: HIS FAMILY.
(Actually, Patrick Jane's wife was living in the fair too, and abandoned the carnival with Patrick.)

After some years of Patrick abandoning the fair, Alex saw his very own son to be a mentalist of success (making money!) on TV shows using his father's skills, tricks and knowledge about being a mentalist.
In short, Patrick used the training of his own father after abandoning him, doing precisely what Patrick renounced to: stealing money from innocent people.

All of this long story between Red John and Patrick is like a test built by his own father to demonstrate that Patrick is not as smart or clever as his father.
Is a pulse fight between them two.

All people Red John uses to kill people or trick Jane, are people that lost something important in their lives, so they are vulnerable or easy-to-manipulate for a professional mentalist like Alex Jane.

It's not yet supported, but maybe Alex killed his wife too; in other words: Patrick's mother.
Alex is a bad person, apart from a bad father.

DAMN CLEAR.

I think the 7 people on the list are the 7 letters of Red John (3+4). Red John is such a complicated character it's probably a well structured killing organization. Each letter signifies a contributor to Red John, although I don't know the order in which they will structure Red John.

Split Personality. RJ is Patrick Jane himself since no one in the 7 suspects matches RJ’s criteria 100%. 

Brett Stiles, Gale Bertram, Sheriff McAllister, Ray Haffner, Reede Smith – either too old, bald, fat/big, no power/not smart enough like Jane. Robert Kirkland and Brett Partridge – can be any of the two but too obvious and still not convincing. They’re all RJ’s allies for sure. 

If PJ is RJ, it would be great.
-can match RJ’s description
-the smiley face looks like Jane
-RJ likes tea and reading books like Jane
-RJ is smart like Jane (same level)
-it doesn’t show much of PJ past
-PJ can manipulate/control one’s mind
-RJ can read PJ’s mind (because they are one)
-PJ has been in insane asylum
-only PJ can know about his childhood memory
-why all the ally of RJ that was caught always dies or something…
-the only conflict for me was the scene ‘tyger, tyger’ the only ep. RJ appeared (was PJ hallucinating?)
-it didn’t show the killing of PJ’s wife & daughters while he was a guest in a show. (PJ could kill them first) Why PJ would kill his own wife & daughter??? Simply because he’s sick (split personality) and doesn’t know about it. That is why it’s MENTALIST.  

Anyway, Mentalist is so good. We are all watching it from Philippines, Sweden, Cyprus and Japan. We can’t wait to see more. 

Red John, please reveal yourself. You are the talk of the town!

I think RJ is Patrick Jane. Because after his Family get murdered by 'someone' , he needs aim in life to live. May be he is not doing knowingly but whatever it is he is RJ. And he is just using style of 'someone' to kill people in the name of RJ

Well I don't know why Kirkland is on the list? He shook hands with Jane in S05E07 when Loreli is already in jail. So what are the chances that he is keeping her that up to date? Also Stiles and Bertam are borderline bald. So the straight short hair bit does not makes sense. McAllister may have had some hair some time ago. But he and Reed have only been seen once. I cannot logically rule them out but I think if they were RJ they might have reappeared sometime. (Although Reed Smith has short straight hair)
Most of the people think Brett Partridge as RJ, Rosiland Harker described him as "Not Muscular but not soft either". Brett Partridge is soft. So Ray Haffner- 6 ft 1- Marginally Tall. Dont want to hold that against him being RJ. But not too sure. So either Haffner, Reed or McAllister with Haffner on top.(assuming he is among the 7)
Well that was the first half now I want to discuss how could RJ make a video even before Jane narrowed it down. Clearly RJ came to know about the list between episode 8(where Loreli tells Jane) and episode 16( where he kills Loreli). And what is more interesting is how does he know all the people that Jane has met and has shaken hands with? Also how does he kill Jane's happy memory?
To the third question I have no answer as of yet. To the first and the second question I have an answer that even I don't want to believe. Only a person who has been with Jane after the murder of his wife and daughter can populate that list except Jane. Van Pelt joined the team later so that leaves Lisbon, Cho and Rigsby. And who out of these knows about the list between the episodes 08 and 16 - Lisbon. RJ is not always one step ahead because he can read Jane's mind. He is ahead simply because he has got a mole( another one )- Lisbon. And how did the body ( and thus the CD) appeared at the precise moment when Jane had narrowed down the list to seven. How such precise timing? Maybe he was tipped by somebody who knew that the list had already been narrowed down?- Lisbon
Now I want to ask you why did Jane smile when he knew that his research had been stolen? Any guesses. I am not too happy with the list any chances that Jane suspects somebody who he hasn't put down? Anybody? Did Jane want to trick somebody?

I think Patrick is Red John.  Maybe he had a nervous breakdown and killed his family. Maybe those days he was broke. He was in a mental hospital. And began see things. Maybe he is schizophrene. It could be. We can only guess.

How come RAY HAFFNER went to RAYMOND HAFFNER which is longer right , but ROBERT KIRKLAND went to BOB KIRKLAND which is shorter just throwing it out there
