LATEST THEORIES

Not a theory, only a doubt. How could RJ get to the same 7 suspects in only few hours, while Jane took some weeks to do the same?

Obviously RJ didn´t find out by the information Kirkland got because he had already recorded the cd. And Jane wouldn´t be so stupied to let the correct information into the CBI.

So, I can presume that the false information here is that Jane shook RJ´s hand before. This way, RJ could have enought time to think very well about those 7 options before Lorelai planted this false clue.

Maybe RJ really is some of those 7 suspects, but he wanted Jane to get to those names. I just don´t know why.

Red John is Reede Smith.
He is the least likely suspect on the list and we know how to expect the unexpected on The Mentalist.
Also the play on the names Reede Smith and Red John.
Reede is derived from "Reed" which means "Red"
Smith/John is a generic name sometimes representing "everyman" or "the average person."
Why would a guy who only acted in 1 episode and have a 10-15 min role be on Janes 7 main suspects list unless..

Just a thought...

Don't you think Brett is TOO obvious? I know Bruno Heller has said stuff but I wouldn't be surprised if RJ is not even on his list, as Jane was happy when they broke into his house.

If the list is legit then the safe bet is Brett with all the videos, pics, and audio from the actual show appointing him. If the writers want a twist, I guess they'll go after someone we don't expect, like Bertram. I know he doesn't have short hair, but Heller said some of the clues are fake. This clue rules out only him. He also drinks tea, is familiarized with the Tyger Tyger poem, calls Patrick 'boy wonder' in an episode, appeared in a season 3 episode (Heller said RJ appeared before season 3).

What doesn't fit is the smiley face on the farm, which is said to have been painted by a child. This clue leaves out all grown ups from the list. Help me here. This theory is based on the writers not being idiots.

Okay i am almost certain Brett Partridge is Red John.
Simple Explanation: The poem Red John refers to is "The Tyger" by William Blake.   Bruno Heller is a screenwriter so will use his mind and set everything out perfectly. William Blake was famous for drawing Partridges. Brett Partridge.

Okay: Detailed Explanation:

Red John 7 List of Suspects:
Bret Stiles
Gale Bertram
Ray Haffner
Reede Smith
Robert Kirkland
Sheriff Thomas McAllister
Brett Partridge

Red John Clues:
Red John is most likely a man
He appears to be a Caucasian, and is a white person as described by Haley
Red John has an average height: Rosalind described him as "just under 6 feet tall"
Red John has short straight hair (as described by Rosalind Harker)
Red John either has or puts on an odd, high pitched and soft voice
Red John should be older than 30 years (since his murders date back to the 90's)

Red John has a short straight hair, that means that Gale Bertram is not red john.He does not have short straight hair.

Red John has an average height, he should be just under 6 feet tall. Ray Haffner and Reede Smith is too tall. Haffner is 6ft1 and Reede Smith is 6ft2.

Now we are left with Stiles,Kirkland,McAllister and Partridge.

Red John has odd, high pitched and soft voice. Brett Stiles and Sheriff McAllister doesnt have soft voice.

With proven facts,we are left with Brett Partridge and Robert Kirkland.

Robert Kirkland would be too obvious to be Red John as he was introduced in Season 5 and was a red hearring. Bruno Heller also states we may of seen Red John before Season 3. Brett Partridge has been there since the beginning.

I think Brett Partridge is RJ but I don't
think 'Brett' is his real name. I'm thinking he changed his name and
chose 'Brett' due to a connection with Visualise - either simply in
homage to Stiles or because he is Brett Stiles's son. The surname -
Partridge - could be a reference to the painting 'A Brace of Partridge'
by William Blake (who also wrote Tyger, Tyger)

I invite you all to check out this article of a convo with Bruno Heller. I guess he could be LYING to us, but I'd like to think he's not.

According to Heller:

Red John IS one of the seven people on the list.

Red John is NOT Jane.

Roselind Harker (the blind young woman who knows Roy Tagliaferro AKA Red John) has described him as being of average height (just under 6') with short, straight hair. He is neither strong nor weak in muscular build. He also has rough, calloused hands.

Combine that with a deleted scene in Season 1 (if that can be trusted) where Jane tells the others that RJ probably has brown hair and perhaps blue eyes and it narrows down the list by quite a bit.

Seems to me the only one's left are Robert Kirkland and Brett Partridge.
Both are around Jane's height of about 5' 11" (just under 6'). Both lean in build with short brown hair.
Kirkland is almost too obvious. They are really pushing his whole bad guy persona a little much this past season. Plus, in another earlier interview with Bruno Heller, he mentioned that RJ has been a sort of Where's Waldo in scenes all the way from the very first season. Kirkland is relatively new.

If Jane is to be believed, the only one with blue eyes and every other aspect would be Partridge from what I can see. He seems obsessed with the Red John cases. Killers love to put themselves right in the middle of their own investigations- being in forensics would certainly help that. He bugs Jane - another win for RJ there. Plus - he's just downright creepy.

Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed that Jane's father isn't on the list. I know, he's probably too old to be RJ and he hasn't been shown shaking Jane's hand in any episode ( if he even would), but THAT would make for interesting TV drama. Plus, he'd be more apt to know all of Jane's thoughts and actions.

But, in lieu of this new information. I'll have to go with Brett.
