LATEST THEORIES

i just started watching the mentalist again from the beginning (4th time) and on the pilot i found something interesting...first let me tell you that the only reason i'm doing this is because there's something about lisbon it doesn't add up...i'm not acussing lisbon but one of my theories is that gale might be red john.besides from stiles and partridge gale bertram has been on the series since season 1 and had a role in some important episodes and season finales....and teresa might of been working for red john since the beginning...i have never believe in jane and teresa having a romantic relationship if anything i see it as a brother and sister...remember what jane said to lisbon about having feeling for laurelie martins?he said that he would tell anything to her if that would get him a step closer to rj...so he used her..maybe he lied maybe not...i have a feeling jane has been suspecting something from lisbom for a while.especially since he told her that he knew some thing about her that she didn't know he knew....my gut is telling me there's something there,i just have to prove it or wait for season 6....OKEY  so here's what i notice in the pilot 1-if you watch the episode almost everybody usually keeps a close eye on brett partrige BUT watch the episode after the flashback and when they are at the murder scene and patrick and brett are talking about rj....notice how they keep the camera on lisbon...not cho,not wayne....keep an eye on lisbon face and you'll see what i mean especially right after patrick says " this isn't red john " the look on lisbon's face is priceless...if she is somehow involved with rj it would make sense why jane never trusted her with his list of suspects or his plans since he started the list before the 7 suspects.think about it...rj is a ladies man...he loves the ladies, wouln't make sense for lisbon to be rj's lover from the beginning and be there to be close and keep and eye on jane...which brings me to my next pont..WATCH season 5 episode 13 the red barn...we learn that teresa have been working with the cbi 10 years...now go back to the pilot in the flashback when patrick talks about rj on tv was 5 years before the pilot..WHICH MEANS teresa started working for the cbi around the time rj killed patrick's family....DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?? there;s something there....HERE'S THE PROBLEM..watch 5x5 red dawn...this episode was supposed to take place a couple of weeks before the pilot...watch when wayne is talking to lisbon about patrick...wayne says "  patrick jane, wife and daughter about a year ago "...THE TIMELINE DOESN'T MAKE SENSE...is it possible that with so many writters on the show somebody made a mistake?...BUT STILL you can't deny there's something about lisbon's past...i'm betting she is not red john BUT is either currently or in the past a lover of rj...he loves the ladies, remember how rj used rebeca??lisbon as a rj's lover makes sense....or somehow involved with rj

First of all, sorry for mi English.

I've seen a lot of people who will be disappointed about Red John's identity, we must remember, he's just man, probably, one of the seven suspects on Jane's list. Mi theory, we have to forget about the rest and focus on that list, because Red John is there.

Before knowing the list I thought Red John was:
- Virgil Minelli
- Walter Mashburn
- Bret Stiles
- Brett Patridge

So, as I said before, we can forget about Minelli and Mashburn.

Bret Stiles is Red John:
- He has a lot of friends everywhere
- He knows a lot of information about Red John, where is Kristina Frye for example.
- He is intelligent, convincing and he likes tricking Jane.
- He is the leader of Visualize and we haven't real information about what it is, but who knows, maybe it's a place to find new "friends" or disciples.

Bret Stiles is not Red John:
- He is too old (it's just an opinion)
- It would "too easy"

So, the common sense make me think that Bret Stiles should be Red John, but I don't know exactly why, I've got the feeling that it would be too easy for us. I mean, the first time I saw Bret Stiles, I thought about the possibility of being Red John. I think Bret Stiles knows that he is one of the suspects and he just wants to trick Jane. To sum up, in my opinion, Bret Stiles is not Red John.

Brett Patridge is Red John:
- He appears on the first episode ("Pilot")
- He always appears when someone imitates Red John.
- He works for the police so he has access to the information he needs.
- He seems to admire Red John
- Jane hates him

Brett Patridge is not Red John:
- Some people say that he is too young (in fact, he is 44)

As you can see, I think Brett Patridge is Red John.
He appears on the first episode ("Pilot") and he is hidden until the last episode of the second season where someone else tries to imitate Red John, to imitate him.
Why starting everything with an episode where someone imitates Red John? It would be better starting with a real Red John case. Why with an imitation? Because they wanted us to see Red John's real identity since the first episode, they wanted us to see Brett Patridge.

Well I have my doubts and it just blossomed when I heard RJ’s voice in
the last episode of season four. The way he said some words looked so
much like Jane. I don’t know if you guys felt the same or not but I
listened again and again and again, the more I focused the more I got
sure.

BUT I don’t think Jane is able to do all these dirty and dark things on
people. And the split-personality-theory looks too complicated unless PJ
orders and others do what seems to be done by RJ.  Besides it does look impossible in any kind of way, unless the writer thinks it is. Any way I do confess if this
is the case–Patrick being Red John, I will regret all the time I wasted
watching The Mentalist.

I've enjoyed watching the theories since I discovered the site since the season 5 finale.

Two things I noticed:

Red John likes to upstage Patrick. Many have pointed out in one episode Jane walks away and then pops back out to scare Brett. Later Red John does the same to Patrick. Then in the season finale Jane catches a "break" and Red John makes it well known that what he did wasn't cleaver, and then Red John goes to prove that he himself is cleaver. This leads me towards Brett, seeing how Patrick has belittled Brett since he first met him. Always undermining him. Even when Patrick came on TV to dismiss Red John which in turn triggered his families murder. Red John has always had to upstage Patrick.

At http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=sd5glnwOmzw#t=17s you catch a glimpse of Red John. His hands and wrist look to resemble Brett's physique. Although as he walks by, he doesn't appear to be as slender as Brett. Perhaps it is his clothing that skews that. To note though, his hands while holding the cup appear to be a closer match. This scene for me at least rules out Stiles as his hands are much larger. I'll have to look for clips of the others.
