This is just something I've been meaning to share for a while.

In Strawberries and Cream, it always puzzled me why the contract killer went to the room above, only to use rope to climb back down a level. Yes, you could argue Red John was trying to throw CBI off the scent, but I don't think RJ even knew the CBI had set him up otherwise he wouldn't have taken the bait.

But I was thinking, if Red John was Bertram he would've been given two different room numbers, one given to him and one given to O'Laughlin. So, the assassin would have to check both rooms, hence going to Bertram's first and then having the rope to climb down to O'Laughlin's if Hightower wasn't there.

Jane accused then Bertram of being Red John in the mall, and Bertram was the one who reminded PJ of the rope which then diverted the blame onto O'Laughlin.

Nothing concrete I'm afraid, just a little thought.

The matter of the fact is that the writers have dropped massive hints and clues for most of the 7 suspects. At least the ones we've seen a lot of, and I'm sure Heller will be dropping hints for Reede Smith and Thomas Mcallister in Series 6.

Here are some of the big hints we've seen already:

Bret Stiles:
-Gave Jane the location for Kristina Fry
-Described the release of stress as a "red cloud" to Van Pelt.

Bob Kirkland:
-Overall suspicious manner. Seen in the Limo for example.
-Killed Lennon, plus the "Do you recognise me?"
-Drank a Bloody Mary, the same drink Jane has three of on the anniversary of his family's murder.
-Similar voice.

Brett Partridge:
-Too much enthusiasm when dealing with RJ cases.
-The scene when PJ surprises him is mirrored with the Red John scene in "Red Sky at Night"
-Similar voice
-"Partridge" - it's connections to Blake

Gale Bertram:
-Reciting Blake's poetry.
-His mystery vacation while leaving the team without a license to work.

Ray Haffner:
-Right after it's revealed that RJ was a member of Visualize....Tad dah! Haffner is revealed to be a member of Visualize.

Even minor characters like Ellis Mars have had big hints dropped that they may be Red John, so it's really hard to know what's relevant when you have no evidence and it's purely theories.

Here are some questions that have been left unanswered:
How did Red John know about "Roll Tide" in Red Sky at Night? Was he at the date?

Why didn't Red John kill Bret Stiles if he knows information about Red John, and is willing to tell Jane some of it?

What did Bosco whisper in Jane's ear the moment before he died?

The answer to the last one has still been hidden away from us and may come into play at sometime. I'm just hoping the writers haven't thought we've forgotten about it.

Red John can't be Bob Kirkland...I mean he killed a man in a hospital!
Red John doesn't make the "minor" kills. He kills when he wants to get
Jane's attention and always leaves a smiley face at the crime scene. The
exception would be in the season 2's finale when he shots 3 teenagers
and cuts the girl's neck. But he did that just because there wasn't
enough time to kill them in his notorious style. Sorry for my
English,it's not my native language.

Unless PJ is one step ahead and faking for everyone (even Lisbon), that seven names are really his list and RJ is really too ahead. But I think it was really a work of genious of Red John, cause how could he know that there was 7 names, not 6 or 8?
Remember that the video with Lorerei was recorded at s05e16 or before and Jane's attic was invaded by Kirkland (only on s05e19), so it was not from there that RJ made his list. Due to this, Kirkland is for sure not red john.
Heller will have a hell of a work if he wants PJ to win this game.
In fact, the only way I see is if PJ and Lisbon simply arrest or kill all seven suspects as fast as they can.

I am not sure who Red John could be, but thinking about a comment I recently read, I had a crazy idea come up:
when Kirkland asks Lennon, if he recognizes him, could it be that he had plastic surgery? Lennon knew the old RJ face and if he wouldn't recognize him now, RJ can be sure that his disguise ist perfect.

I don't like the idea too much, but it the only way that Kirklands question makes sense to me so far.

So, if Kirkland had plastic surgery, how has he been looking before? Compare Kirkland to Walter Mashburn... face would be possible, the only thing is that Walter is taller than RK... that doesn't fit. But Teresas role would be explained. RK has been to PJ's room, so that could hint to the LM video.
So, what do you think?

I always thought that RK is NOT RJ, bur the more I think about his behaviour, the more plausible it seems to me.
I still like the idea of Walter being RJ, it would be the most interresting character to be RJ as PJ has a good connection to WM and also WM has a crush on Teresa.

All the other characters would be disappointing to me.
Partridge is a possibility, too. He's has been one of my main suspects all the time
Stiles - I don't think so
Reede Smith - I don't think so
Gale Betram - possible, but I don't think so.
MCAllister  maybe, strange character...
Ray Haffner - I reall don't think it is him

Have we seen Red John in the final scene of Season 3 finale episode "Strawberries and Cream"?

When Patrick is in the mall facing Timothy Carter, the fake Red John, in the background is a man wearing a long red shirt, black pants and a black baseball cap. His back is turned to us, as he is talking to a man wearing a green apron, apparently a clerk at the coffee station. The man is much taller than the clerk, perhaps about 6 ft. tall, with a thin profilel

He appears later in the same scene, still talking to the clerk, and finally after Patrick shoots Timothy and sits down at the table, where two store policemen rush up to him with pistols, he is seen rapidly running across the scene in the background, from left to right. The running figure is too indistinct to see many features, but he appears to have short dark hair.

Of course it could just be another red herring by Heller, but he did say that we may have had a fleeting glimpse of RJ. If that running figure was RJ, he seems to fit Brett Partridge's profile best.

A lot of great theories and speculation on here but my main suspect is Sheriff Tom McAllister.

A lot of great points are made as to why it is plausible to be him with Theory #3066 on this site. I won't rehash those valid points but here is a new one to consider:

In episode 2 of Season 1 where McAllister is featured he appears to be looking to prey on Grace Van Pelt before Rigsby intervenes. He acts shocked that they would think he would be a killer. In the words of a famous English playwright "Me thinks doth protest too much!"

The seed has already been planted with McAllister.
