It's Sheriff Thomas McAllister!  Patrick and him did shake hands in the form of rock, paper, scissors.

If you are going to watch some very important episodes like Rebecca's poisoning and the plot to get rid of Hightower both have one common denominator - a county police. The guy who poisoned Rebecca was indeed McAllister. Of course, no one would suspect the sheriff because only a few knew who he was. Remember Todd? He was also a county police, and don't forget about the guy who kidnapped Jane in Season 1.

This one is a very strong evidence: In the Red Hair and Silver Tape episode, when Van Pelt was about to be harassed, Rigsby stepped in and pushed McAllister. Out of the blue, a police car with its siren, suddenly came speeding towards them(probably one of RJ's friends). Same police car came running in front of Patrick and Lisbon. The rock, paper, scissors is one way for RJ to get intimate with Patrick. Lastly, being a county sheriff is a great cover. I'll leave you guys with this Sherlock Holmes quote:

"Do you know, Watson," said he, "that it is one of the curses of a mind with a turn like mine that I must look at everything with reference to my own special subject. You look at these scattered houses, and you are impressed by their beauty. I look at them, and the only thought which comes to me is a feeling of their isolation and of the impunity with which crime may be committed there."

Okay. We all know the poem that Red John recites to Patrick in the Finale of season 2. It's a part from the poem "The Tyger" by William Blake. I was just re-watching Episode 16 of season 3. And Gale makes a reference that goes as, "When thy little heart doth wake, Then the dreadful night shall break.", which is a part of the poem "Cradle Song" also by William Blake. He also says that he likes the poem. So maybe the appreciation that Red John and Gale Bertram share for William Blake is an indication as to who he really is?

In my previous theory (http://www.whoisredjohn.com/See-a-theory-Red-John/3591) I analyzed some facts we were shown during all 5 seasons. Now I'd like to think on the possible trick which is waiting for us in season 6 made by Heller and co..
By saying trick I mean that probably we are not going to find out that RJ is just one of seven. I think the solution will have some complicated structure.
Here are some possible tricks we may be suggested.
1) RJ is just 1 of 7 (a very simple structure), but the trick is some rotation of roles. I mean we could find out that actually RJ is not as much evil as we used to think and PJ is not as much good. If this is true, we have two scenarios. The first is RJ seeking some revenge (for example Harker could be blinded by Janes' manipulations). The second line is RJ killing bad people only. Actually the majority of victims are not saints, some women could be revealed being bad, and the only one is PJ's daughter who was absolutely innocent (maybe we could think a chance of her being alive?). Another argument is RJ trying to stop his activity (by making PJ kill Carter). From this point everything was ok, as RJ stopped murdering until PJ manipulated RJ to kill Panzer and so reviving RJ.
2) RJ is just 1 of 7, but a pair of suspects might be excluded from the list in the beginning episodes of the coming season (some could die or something else). So we'll stop suspecting somebody, but later it could be revealed that the one is actually RJ. So we must wait for the first suspect to "die".
3) Still I can't fully understand the profile of RJ. He is said to be Moriarty, but some steps like direct murders, actions with blood and so on don't fit in Moriarty profile. So the trick may be RJ not being the highest killer at all. I mean there could be a person who is directing a lot of people and RJ is just one of them. So RJ is a very bad guy, but he is not "the final boss". By the way, this could be a possible setting for season 7 (after catching RJ in season 6).
4) I know what Heller said, but let's agree that the way he said the list is real is not the same to the way he said PJ isn't RJ. I mean we could be 100% sure that PJ is not RJ and we could be 95% sure RJ is on the list. So this may be the trick. The list could be real but not full, in which case Mashburn would be a very strong candidate (we shouldn't forget his close relationship with Lisbon). I'm still thinking about Roy Carmen being somehow involved (probably the only character who could know about PJ's happy memory). May be Carmen told Lisbon about the memory, and Lisbon told Mashburn.

There could be some other tricks beside the listed above, but I'd bet on the 3rd line (probably with McAllister).
Some words about the list. Let's imagine you were offered to guess the list of 7 suspects before it was revealed in the last episode. A lot of people would list Kirkland, Bertram, fans' favorite Partridge, certainly Stiles, Haffner was also very suspicious. Less people would list Smith (but some for sure would, I believe). Would anybody list McAllister? I think no, because the rest six were somehow suspected, and when creating a list the scenarists could point as 7th somebody more "RJable" (almost anybody from characters listed on this website in Suspects section). So what are the origins of the idea listing McAllister? I don't think they couldn't find anybody and just started to watch episodes from the beginning until finding McAllister shaking hands whit PJ.

Ok so I don't know for sure who RJ is and if us all trying to guess the 7 suspect list is anything to go by i cant even begin to think what RJ back story will be or why he does it or what started it all...  so its impossible to really know who RJ is going to be... but...

If I'm taking a guess out of the 7 suspects then stiles is the man! yes he is older  & he doesn't really fit the physical profile Rosalind gave PJ but then can we take her word on that?? she was always dodgy to me....
out of the 7, Stiles is charming, intelligent, head of his own cult, he is friends (kind of) with Patrick already, he can manipulate people & he def has dark side.

and i believe that the others suspects on janes list are linked to RJ or are def RJ follwers, i think they are RJ hig rank follwers, in fact.  With the likes of Bertram, Haffner, Kirkland,  Partridge, Smith, Mcallister all in RJ pocket it makes sense how RJ is always one step ahead of jane all these years... they are all in law enforcement & it would explain how Rj gets his info so easily, how the crimes scenes never have any evidence, how he can access cbi records, how he can keep close tabs on patrick & many many other things I could list and all these guys can help him achieve these in some way of another.

So right now Im thinking Stiles is RJ... the rest are his main Followers...

As for other slightly out there theorys on here , i realise everyone is entitled to their own but some are slightly OTT now... got to remember this is TV show not a feature fantasy film...

Lisbon is not rj or 1 of his accomplices,  her whole role in the show is she janes partner & love interest, its been happening from the start & they have been slowly falling for each other over the years & growing closer, its been the small underlining story in the show, it's not going to be some sappy love story won't fit with the show, plus Jane still has to come to terms with letting his family go plus many many other issues he & her have between them. but she is not rj or his follower she is janes.

on saying that all i am sure that over the years lisbon has accidentally let info slip regards rj cases or about Jane to some of the 7 suspects without her even realising it. Bertram, Haffner, Kirkland, all work closely with her, even reede smith could get info as he is Mancini's partner, she is friends with Mancini goes poker with him etc. But if she did give anything away she did it without her realising it.

Jane is not red john.... end of..

The Dvd is not a fake or was not done by PJ. this was RJ trying to look like he has still the upper hand but in fact he doesn't, not anymore Jane is closer than ever now.

As for is lorelei is dead theory?... mmmm...  i'm torn on this theory. if she is alive then she is working with Rj not Jane. Lorelei & Rj are kind of like the evil twisted messed up equvilant of Jane & Lisbon except Lorelei let a massive thing slip so it's now changed the game & her role.  If she was working with Jane then she would just tell him who RJ is and he would just go after him he just wants to get his revenge, nothing else matters to him.  So if she is still alive then dvd & she are part of rj game... not janes.

Anyway thats all for now. right now this is a theory i having... I'm going with Stiles as RJ & the rest will fit in with him/RJ somehow.

Ok, this is a crazy theory, but look at the "He is Man" screen-cap.

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.aoltv.com/media/2009/01/mentalist-heisman.png

Could it have been saying Lisbon? Maybe he didn't actually know RJ's identity/name. Could he have been pointing to her as the person to go to for more information?

The perceived "H" can be the dying man's failed attempts to write an L, after which he gave up and he wrote down a small "l", which we have been reading as "e", the "is" is clearly there. The "m" can be a capital "B" improperly written in a tilted way, the "a" can be "o", with the blood dripping down to make it look like an "a" (look at the "H", "m/b" and "n", the blood is dripping down there too), and then there's "n".

I'm not saying Lisbon is RJ, I'm saying that she may know more than she's letting on- maybe she's a disciple, maybe she's scared of something. Case in point:

1. She and Sam Bosco had some kind of secret, from back before she met Jane I'd assume. That has never been revealed, Bosco is dead now, and I don't think the writers, being so brilliant, would just introduce something like that to the plot if it wasn't relevant. And since it still hasn't been revealed, I'm thinking it's related to RJ.

2, Lisbon's injured hand.

I think in the last season, there have been enough clues for pretty much anyone on Jane's list to be RJ.

The question isn't "who" anymore, the more important question now is "why" and "how".

Whoever RJ turns out to be, B. Heller better have a good back-story for him.

Personally, I'm rooting for Ray Haffner or Kirkland. But Kirkland is a little too suspicious, with the "do you recognize me? It's very important" scene, so I'm thinking it's a red herring.

Brett Patridge is just too goofy in my opinion. I know most theories point to him being RJ, but I'd be very disappointed if it was him. I hope the actor can pull off RJ in that case.

And what's the deal with Lisbon's hand injury being mentioned but never explained and not of any significance? Another red herring?
