LATEST THEORIES

I think Red John is Brett Partridge… and I wish it so much!
Let's proceed by exclusion. I wish to be clear, also if my English is not so good. Sorry.
I think Bret Stiles, Bertram, Smith, McAllister don't absolutely fit the description offered by Rosalind Archer: they are too old or too fat or… almost without hair. And I believe that her description is trusty.

So, my personal list was immediately reduced to 3 names: Haffner, Kirkland, Partridge.

I think that both Ray Haffner and Kirkland have the appeal and the power to be Red John. Haffner is famous for his investigations using innovative surveillance's methods, so he could have observed Jane for all the time and know everything about him. But he seems to be too tall… a little more than 6 feet tall, whereas Red John is just under 6 feet tall. Well, maybe it's not a big difference, I know… but in  my investigation the description made by Rosalind is a milestone.

Kirkland… well, I think he is a too perfect Red John to be the real Red John! According to me, he was introduced to set us on the wrong track. He has a particular voice and the perfect face and posture to be Red John: penetrating, calm, charming. He has power, contacts, charisma, the right job. A too perfect construction. And anyway, I think, he is too heavy compared to the description we have.

And then… Brett Partridge! I think he perfectly fits the physical description offered by Rosalind and the RJ physique, as quickly seen in some episodes. Then, he is a forensic guy and knows very well how don't leave clues on the crime scene.
I wasn't completely sure about him for a long time, because he is ridiculous and everybody, not only Jane, don't show a lot of respect to him. It's difficult to imagine that Red John would create a similar situation in his daily life… he is so authoritative! But probably it's just a part of his perfect plan. And, if Bruno Heller told that we'll be disappointed to know who Red John really is, I think that is because Partridge has apparently not at all the qualities that we can imagine Red John has.

Other clues that indicate Partridge as Red John: his referral to Dickens' book, but not so explicit. Partridge is careful not to provide clues to Jane.
Then, he has the perfect age and he talks about his mum: in pilot original screenplay, then cut, Jane describes Red John as a very ordinary man that lives with his mum or his sister, in his mid 30 (the description of Red John in TV was made by Jane several years ago, so the age now is perfect).
Now, Partridge is not so ordinary… he is definitely creepy. But his appearance is duller than the proud carriage of Haffner and Kirkland… I think he is ordinary in the sense that…he is not one you notice passing on the street.

Then, the smiley face is so similar to him! In some photos on the web, his eyes have the same shape of the smile. For example here: http://bit.ly/19qxfnc
And, what about this famous image from The Mentalist pilot? http://bit.ly/18ezw3F

There is also the yet famous clue: William Blake has painted "A brace of Partridge".
Furthermore, there is a kind of partridge that has red colours.. a red partridge. I think the correct name in English is red-legged partridge.

And, I want venture to say that in the pilot there is the TV scene that ends with the question asked by the showman:"Who is Red John?" and immediately begins a new scene with Partridge who says:"Here he/it is!" (I unfortunately can't listen to it in English and I don't know if he says exactly these words… In italian, my language, he was translated in this way and I can't find the original version on YouTube). He refers to the smile in the room, of course… but, well, we know how much the words are important in The Mentalist!

I've surely omitted a lot of clues to argue who can be RJ and who not… but I wish to have specified the key-evidences to explain my point of view.

And now, some unsolved doubts: why "Tagliaferro"? In italian it isn't a famous surname linked to literature or history… But I think is not casual.
And why Bret Stiles and Brett Partridge have a similar name? Names are not casual… for example, I think Raymond (Haffner) was chosen because similar to Roy (Tagliaferro) and Smith (Reed Smith) because in italian a smith is similar to  "tagliaferro", that is "cutiron".
If there is a link between Bret and Brett, I think it's another clue to can tell that… Brett Partridge is Red John!

First of all, lets put all the nonsense answers given to us by Bruno heller aside. It's pretty damn obvious that he made that "list" to deceive us. Therefore that shortens the suspect list by 7 people. Everything else you have seen could have some sort of deception behind it, like RJ is a white man or Patrick is not RJ. Most of the clues he gave us are probably false. My theory is that if Mr.Heller does want to give this show an exciting ending he probably made Lisbon red john ( or probably Jane). If indeed red john turns out to be one of the 7 suspects the show will have a very anti-climatic ending!!!!!!!

She is the initial red john and her accomplice is brett partridge. . . She was the mastermind behind it. Roy is brett, but not red john. . .

I read somewhere that Heller said that we might have already seen Red John during the first three seasons.
So this excludes Ray Haffner S4, Reede Smith S5 and Bob Kirkland S5

THREE DOWN, FOUR TO GO!

Brett Stiles * S2
-
Too old.- Is ‘friends’ with Patrick.
 -  5’9

Gale Bertram *S3

-Does not fit Rosalind Harker’s description of Red John.
- Bald
6’3

Sherrif Mcallister Thomas *S1
- Does not fit Rosalind Harker’s description of Red John.
- Too old.
- 6’0

SO THIS LEAVES…

Brett Partridge S1
- Was in the pilot episode so he’s been there since the very beginning.
-Rosalind Harker describes Red John to be of average height, short, straight hair, neither strong nor weak, just softish.
 - Very similar voice to Red John
 - Red John’s favourite poet and artist was William Blake who wrote ‘Tyger Tyger’ and painted ‘A Brace of Partridge’.
- Season 1 Pilot: He tells everyone that the murder was committed by Red John. He was wrong. It was a copycat.
- Season  2: He tells Patrick that it was Red John. Wrong. Another copycat.
- Season 5: He tells everyone that it WASN’T Red John when in fact it really was.
- The “mirror scene” in season 2.
- Speaks spanish. “Que pasa dude?” “Amigo.”
- 44-45 so he is the right age.
5’11

BUT!
I won’t rule out that Bob Kirkland (5’9)  could POSSIBLY be a associate of Red John’s…

I knew that he was Red John from the beginning. He is very strange, and he likes horror films...

I'd like to ask some questions this time just to help you raise new theories if you somehow happen to reach new findings out of these:

1- Jane and Sheriff Mc Allister playing paper-rock-scissors. Both looking into each other's eyes. And tell me the odds someone winning 6 times in a row. Or better tell me the odds someone loses 6 times in a row looking each other's eyes (normally you look at each other's hands to predict the next move). If you're a good face-reader, I may accept the reality that you can win most. But all???

2- Jane's hallucination of his daughter. Why was it his daughter only? His wife was not worth to hallucinate? Why did his daughter ask him if anyone knows who he really is? He says Lisbon. What does this mean?

3- Rebecca gets killed walking towards her cell by some mysterious man using poison. Everyone here thinks that he was RJ. Maybe he was just a random disciple of RJ but Rj had hypnotized Rebecca in a way that she believed she will see his long-lost love as a gift after killing Bosco and his team which she can only notice by a sign (a badge, flower, etc.) and maybe that was why she kept smiling like she was in a dream when she saw that man coming. Isn't that possible?

4- Everyone says that Heller is placing red herrings and false clues within the show and his interviews. Nobody thinks about the possibility of him lying about the idea "Maybe I casted RJ already" ?

5- Does anyone else think that Rosalind Harker may not be actually blind? What would that lead us to?

6- The "Higher Path" RJ was talking about is just a strange way of perceiving the world / life or some complex plan of some sort?

7- Does anyone deny the truth that Visualize is the center of all the RJ phenomena? What facts do we know about the mission/vision of Visualize? Anything concrete? Does it serve to some master plan or is it just a bunch of people came together fooling themselves with actually becoming super-humans by clarifying their views on life and thinking? What's the barn's true involvement?

8- Isn't it odd a man like Tommy Volker personally drives to the address with the contract killer where the kid he wishes dead lives in?  Was it because he was processed weakly as a billionaire in terms of his capabilities or there's something else hidden in this?

9- Everyone from Jane's past was shown us in their current situations but his father seems to be intentionally hidden. Don't you think so? If you do, why?

10- Jane's brother in law was introduced to us (maybe the only living link to his family life) but it was just like in and out. Never mentioned after. Do you think he will play a role in the future as well?

11- If we accept the truth that the smiley represents Jane's face and it was drawn on the barn's wall 25 years ago by RJ, then shouldn't we come to a conclusion that RJ and Jane knew each other for longer than most of us think? Wouldn't that lead us to a single direction in our theories?

12- If we happen to believe that the smiley actually belongs to Partridge (the famous scene on 5x22), then why are we waiting for? Let's just hang him.

13- Many theories about Kirkland: Being an Rj accomplice, being Rj himself and seeking revenge from RJ. Does that guy even know himself what he's doing?

14- Doesn't it smell fishy that PJ takes the CD from the lady and not Lisbon does as it is an evidence and only agents can handle evidence. But Jane appears to have it like he says "I saw it first" and destroys it no questions asked. If those questions are not asked at the beginning of the 6th season, then can we think that Lisbon has a purpose in letting him do it?

So far that's all. You may write your comments/answers by indicating the question numbers. Thank u all...

Show this theory

Red John could be Patrick Jane's alter ego in disguise. Lisbon, or Lorelei, or anyone would never know it. The 2005  Tamil Movie "Anniyan" was shot in the same way. Hero has Multiple personality and the innocent Identity assist police in finding the Criminal Identity.

A human's subconscious mind is ahead of him, Just like RJ is ahead of PJ. Processing the wrong list is intentional so Lisbon will be focused on within CBI and Patrick Jane can still continue his disguise. He may have killed his wife and daughter, and used CBI to turn the case's direction. We all know he is capable of it. Truth can only be revealed by shooting a video of PJ's alter ego.
