Except from the description details by Rosalind harker Reede Smith is the most plausible because if you switch the alphabets you would got "the red is me".

I think that it's him because he has the correct description from Rosalind Harker and the voice of red john in the last episode season 2 is very familiar to his.
I think the key factors in finding out who RJ is, is his influence. The only people with so much influence are Gale bertram and Bret stiles. Next we need motive. What makes a guy snap and start killing people for no reason? That depends on his past..........We dont know much about their pasts but Visualize is not a good organization.Red john probably was a member there and knows how to brain-wash people by being "friends" with them. This is all very confusing and i hope there is a good explanation for all these clues................provided that these clues aren't misleading. For all we know it could be jane's alter ego.
I'm sure that those 7 suspects are red john all but bret stiles is the boss so it's possible that they could kill everyone anytime when they want.
I know i'm way off most likely but this caught my eye and i wanted to share just in case i'm right about this and it's not a typo first go to ( http://www.cbs.com/shows/the_mentalist/red-john/ )
Now look through all the seven suspects and notice that for Bret Stiles it doesn't say Character before his name like it does for everyone else but like i said maybe just a typo
Read this carefully because it will only enlight few people once.
According to Bruno Heller:
Red John IS one of the seven people on the list.
Red John is NOT Jane.
Roselind
Harker has described him as being of average height (just under 6')
with short, straight hair. He is neither strong nor weak in muscular
build. He also has rough, calloused hands.
Seems to me the only one's left are Robert Kirkland and Brett Partridge.
Both are around Jane's height of about 5' 11" (just under 6'). Both lean in build with short brown hair.
Kirkland
is almost too obvious. Plus, in another earlier
interview with Bruno Heller, he mentioned that RJ has been a sort of
Where's Waldo in scenes all the way from the very first season. Kirkland
is relatively new.
Lorelei
also told jane that she was suprised RJ and Jane didn't become life
long friends the FIRST time they shook hands. As far as I know, Partridge and Jane do not really like each other... There is no plausible way
for Lorelei to have the knowledge of Jane and Kirkland's handshake, she
was in prison and had no contact with Red John or Jane at this point in
the show. Last argument, Kirkland killed Lennon in the middle of a
hospital with witnesses everywhere (not RJ's M.O. at all). Furthermore,
Lennon didn't remember Kirland.
If
Jane is to be believed, the only one with blue eyes and every other
aspect would be Partridge from what I can see. He seems obsessed with
the Red John cases. Serial killers love to put themselves right in the middle
of their own investigations- being in forensics would certainly help
that. He bugs Jane - another win for RJ there. Plus - he's just
downright creepy. Personally, I'll have to go with Brett.
My theory is simple and based on dubbers.
Although I am a proud sustainer that RJ may be Brett Partridge, I must acknowledge what follows:
Just ran into a list of the Italian dubbers of the serial (which you can find here: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personaggi_di_The_Mentalist#Criminali) and could not help but notice that the Italian dubber of Red John (as confirmed here in the right side box, you can find "Voce italiana: Massimo De Ambrosis" which means "Italian voice: Massimo De Ambrosis" http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_il_Rosso) also happens to be the dubber of two other characters in the serial. Those are Timothy Carter (Fake RJ, eventually killed by PJ) and ....DRUM ROLL.... Robert Kirkland.
Even if you are not native Italian speakers, you can find this out on your own by clicking CTRL+F with your active browser window to look for words within the page you're visiting.
You can enter "Massimo De Ambrosis" in the first link I provided just to find 3 occurrencies which are those I mentioned.
("doppiato da" = "dubbed by")
Could somebody please confirm this for other languages as well? I was not able to find the names of the french, spanish, german, and so on dubbers to confirm the theory.
