Hi everyone.
Today I lift a secret about Ray Haffner.
I'm starting with the contacts. After that: the handshake, the money and the surprises.

First of all his contacts.
- He is a former FBI Agent so he has friends and contacts within the FBI. 
- He is a Visualize member, long enough to have been at the farm in 1988. That is the reason why          Bret Stiles knows so much about Red John. 
- He is a former CBI Supervisory Special Agent and Agent Senior and chief of the new Team when Jane was reinstated so the shook hands.
This is the reason why Wainwright truested him. And we all saw what happend. May he rest in peace.

The money. 
- He offered Lisbon a new job at a new private security agency where she would have a substantial pay raise. 
That explains the money for a Limo and the armed gorillas. 

So far, so good.
Surprise #1.
Haffner was the only one who ever quoted William Blake. Some lines of The Tyger. And you know who does it too.

Surprise #2.
Did you saw the picture of the killed woman with the name "Roy"? The sister of Loralei? Sure you did ;)
It shows the name of Red John, ROY.
But do you see the similarities between Roy and Ray? Me too.


Summary.
You see, Haffner got the right contacts, the money, shook hands with Jane, is a Visualize member and knows The Tyger.
Do you need more hints or conclusive evidence?

I've gone through all of the Red John related episodes since the first season and the most profound hint that I've found so far is in episode 1x11 Red John's Friends.  About half way through the episode, Red John hacks the medical records for the CBI and has a short chat with Jane.  Pause the episode when it goes to Red John typing at 22:31 on the DVD's and you can see the younger reflection of Bob Kirkland without any facial hair. Go check it out right now I kid you not.  Bob Kirkland is RED JOHN.

So folks, my brand new theory.

I hope you won't be disappointed because I am not telling you who Red John is, but just eliminating.

From list of 7 suspects, I truely believe that I can eliminate two of them at this moment. I truely think that Gale B. and Reed S. are not Red John. Why?

S01e23, Rosalind Harker said that Red John is 'just under 6 feet tall'(180 cm) and both of them are 191 cm tall. She couldn't miss by that much. Gale could also be eliminated because he seems a little to stupid to be Red John. He can't even win a poker game without Jane's help.

So that was what I think 100% is true. Heller said that Red John will be relieved by the end of the year so ii suspect that every episode will mean elimination of one suspect. So McAllister could be eliminated in second episode of 6th season. Bret S., who is only one powerful enough to be Red John, is a little to old to be someone's lover and stay in bad for 2 days. Don't you think so? so Ray, Brett or Bob? Instinct told me Brett, but mind said Ray. He is connected to Visualize, he has money and time. Red, Roy, Ray...

Hi,

First of all, I don't have any real theory that would confirm my accusation, I just hope it's him. I sort of like his character.

Furthermore if you read a crime novel (e.g Agatha Christie) you can come up with educated guesses but with The Mentalist it's different. To many suspects fit a part or all of the clues. 

I do believe that casting for Red John is trickier than we would think. Nobody can estimate in the first season precisely how long a show will go on so you always have to have character that could be RJ. If the show continues you can expand the legend and create new story lines. At least this is what I would do as a creator/executive producer and this is why we have so many possible suspects and theories.

I think that RJ is Patrick Jane's father. If you think about it, he has taught Jane everything he knows, and probably wants to prove a point to him. RJ also let Jane live. He also knows what makes Jane smile an what his happy memories are. RJ is Jane's father and wants to get back at Jane for tarnishing his name, disrespecting him when Jane was younger, and leaving him for a separate life.

Somehow i don't that list of 7.  Walter Mashburn my choice. he will return the Mentalist and shocked the viewers.
