I´m not sure if this theory is good for you but don´t click "unlickely" only because J.J. LaRoche isnt on the list. Bruno Heller said :- "You can trust the list" but ... which list?
-The newest one or the older one? Because in the older one LaRoche was there. Well , lets start.
We all know that LaRoche cut a tongue (I don´t remember who was the victim) and we know WHY. Because he rapped his mother. So lets look at the murderers:
8 unnamed suspects: Dunno the reason.
Jane´s wife and daughter: Patrick Jane mocked him.
Jared Renfew: He was going to blame Red John.
Emma Plasket:Dunno reason
Sam Bosco and his team: He sent Rebecca to kill them because he knew that Bosco had important information and he took his case.
Rebecca: He knew that Patrick was going to take information of her.
Towlen Morgen: He killed him because he wanted Jane to find Martinez body.
DON´T YOU SEE IT? All the reasons are similar that the reason of the tongue. IN ALL THE REASONS THEY ARE GOING TO REAVEAL HIM / THEY MOCKED HIM / AND TOOK HIS CASE.

Clue #2 Lorelei told Patrick that Red John hadn´t became friends since they shaked hands.So , Bret Stiles cant be , because he is Patricks´s friend.

Clue #4: Red John´s best friend was a Sheriff (1x23) isnt it a coincidence that Thomas McAllister , one of the suspects , is a Sheriff. We dont know if he worked on Vizualize , so perhaps it could be Raymond Haffner.
BUT KNOW ... SHERIFF THOMAS MCALLISTER IS RED JOHN (OR RAYMOND HAFFNER)
You know the part when he askes if he reconises him, "Its Important" what if Red John is wearing a mask/Plastic Surgery like CIA Agents do sometimes?
Just a thought.I know most of you believe that Sheriff Thomas McCallister isnt RJ and if he is it will be dissapointing.Anyway i dont know if he is RJ indeed but im pretty sure that he isnt just a Sheriff.If you pay attention in the conversation between him and Van Pelt at s01e02 especially when he says "I think you are drunk Mrs" you will see a man that tries to seduce Van Pelt(i dont know the reason and thats the key).I dont know if eventually McCallister will be RJ but the fact that he is on the list isnt random at all.
RJ WILL NOT LET PJ LEFT HIM AS A FOOL.
First episode of season 4 Jane fooled Haffner by changing the notebook, he cant be red john . Red john is way to intelligent and will never let that happen, i mean cmon rj has been always fooling jane and making creepy things.
He fooled thomas mcallister playing scissor paper stone.
Brett partridge also, he always is wrong , he says some theory about a murder and jane always corrects him.
Gale bertram needed help of jane to win in poker... Cmon really? Rj will never need help in nothing.
Bob kirkland ... WAY TOO OBVIOS ITS IMPOSSIBLE.
Reede smith .. Reslly? He ess slso fooled by jane snd fight teresa lisbon cho and rigsby, he will never go down to that level, he is way to elegant.
Stiles is the only one that could face jane and make him think, and if heller decides to put another one that is not in the list it eill make him a liar because he said that we must trust in the list.
Anyway i think he will make a awesoke rj appeareance!
I was not a fan of red John = bertram because I don't see how a director of CBI may have time to be a killer but watch the last episode of season 3 after the 53 min, Bertram takes tea with a famous mug that can remember some memories.
