In the promo for 6x02 episode, you can see Sophie Miller's (Patrick's psychiatrist) face in the picture on the fridge. Above that picture is note from Red John. So, Red John probably found out Patrick's happy memory from Sophie Miller.
We know that Alexa Shultz appeared in "Red Dawn" episode where she asked Virgil Minelli to keep him in loop about Red John's case, emphasising that Patrick Jane is someone who spent a year in an insanse asylum. She is later seen with Robert Kirkland inside the limosine who thanks her for the service.
I don't really think that Kirkland is Red John: he's capable of gain information to everyone but more probably is just a good accomplice of RJ (In september 2011 Heller said that we already saw RJ in previous episods and the first appearance of Kirkland is in red dawn (2012))
so, who is Red John? I think Bret Stiles.

Ladies and gentlemen that are in denial of the fact that Brett Patridge is dead please read the following interview with Jack Plotnick (the actor that plays Patridge) in it he clearly states that Patridge is really dead and that he won't be coming back ever. So I've seen a lot of theory that Partridge is RJ and not really harmed, but if you watch the scene where he is found, two things appear to contradict this;

1- The door has a flip and slide bolt to close, not able to close from the outside,,,,
2- As he came out, you can see the twist ties around his wrists (used by police these days)

I don't think RJ would put himself in a vulnerable position, not really his style.

I picked McAllister because there was no choice for:  "I haven't a clue"!  :) The possibilities are seemingly endless...

Oh, another thing I noticed was a comment that the blade looked like a scalpel that ME's use... To me it reminded me more of a "carpet cutter", but it did look like it had an edge on both sides of the blade maybe something used to gut fish or game.... check this out and note the brass sleeve...http://www.pacificsod.com/per_imgs/knife.gif

God became human and deliberately humiliated himself to redeem mankind. Haffner let Jane humiliate him so that Bertram would forgive Lisbon and her team and let them back to work.

Xander Berkeley(Thomas McAllister) doesn't look like the type of actor you would bring in for a single episode. Simon Baker didn't look like the perfect choice for Jane, but he's done a great job so far. Reed Diamond(Ray Haffner) is an underrated actor too. So is it going to be the fancy actor or another underrated genius? I'd rather go with the underrated genius, Reed Diamond.

By the way, what does it say about the fans when their top suspect since the first season was the first to go?! I'm glad Partridge went down first. Bertram is next. Kirkland is too obvious. Smith?! he sounds more like Chubby John rather than Red John. Is Stiles still alive?!

Hi im son of a former producer who was involved in filming of the mentalist. He now has left an is not under oath. From season 1-3 red john was Brett Partridge then it changed to Ray Haffner for 2 season due to much suspicion its now an finally the sherrif. Why would someone you hardly know be in there.

Heller said, there is a clue in the last minutes of season 6 episode 1. I saw something, which wasn't mentioned here before:

Right before Lisbon entered the house a car went by. She looked after it but then she heard a noise from inside the building. Then she got a call from Jane. He left her a message. Here is the thing: Jane was also sitting in a car. And I wonder why he was smiling as he asked her where she might be. As if he knew... Maybe he was the one, who drove by.
