I think they mean Red John is VanPelt struck by multiple personality disorder. Which means she would change her identity and behavior patterns unknowingly because multiple personality accompanies memory loss so that one personality would not recall anything done by the other. Basically it's two personalities taking over the same body. in this case Grace and Red John are two personalities of the same person!
I can see why you say it but I have doubts specially because of the time frame! VanPelt looks to be in her late twenties when Red John's career started in 1998!

I don't think Kristina is Red John. I have many reasons but the most logical one would be she is now too obvious! And when creators make someone obvious, it doesn't usually end up correct!
Though I would not rule out her as an accomplice of Red John! I mean, her indifference when Jane mentioned that she made a mistake, claiming that she said the truth about Red John and things like that.
The twist in guessing who Red John is, is that in those episodes, when they showed that shadow and tea cup (1x23) and the man who poisoned Rebbecca and even when Rebbecca and Rosalind claim that they loved Red John, in the show they never mention that is Red John himself! They could be accomplices for all we know!

Actually, I think Red John is Grace Van Pelt.
First of all, it is more than obvious, that it is someone from inside. I am pointing at the team. Think about it! She's obviously smart, she seems to have a "moral agenda". - Red John has been starring at us from the beginning. Plus, none of the characters, backgrounds have been developed. The killer's trademark is a crying-smiling face. That would hint to someone obvious! If I remember correctly, in an episode Patrick, suggests that Wayne is going to invite Grace, to sleep with him. Afterwards Patrick said, Grace already prepared an answer. My question is, how did she figure out Wayne's intention - she did, because she is a mentalist.
Think about Red John's modus operandi. At first, you see the "art" and afterwards, the murder. I think we are seeing the crying-smiling face at the moment. We haven't looked at the actual murder.

I strongly feel that Patrick Jane is Red John!! Split Personality Disorder and master of hypnotism.

When his wife found out that he was a serial killer apart from being the conman, he killed her and his daughter (or whether they were his real family we don't know!!).
He never wants Christina Frye to be on a case as she is a self confessed Psychic and maybe he feels that if she tries to get closer to Jane through the cases that they work together on then she might be able to find out the secret of his.
All the people who entered in CBI as an accomplice to Red John were hypnotized by him to an extent that they were willing to give their lives for Red John (the lady who killed the cops including Sam Bosco and Craig O'Laughlin).
There are many more theories which could easily confirm that Jane is RJ but we will wait and see.

I seriously wish that I am wrong as that would make my watching Season 4 n 5 more exciting :). Cheerz!!

After watching the pilot episode for the third time, I could find some clues that didn't hit me before. When RJ comes at Jane's and gives his letter, he wrote "I have twelve wives and i'm about to have a thirteenth one". So I google "twelve wives", and guess who had "eleven or thirteen wives"? Muhammad , muslim's prophet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad's_wives). What intrigued me was that in this episode, Van Pelt seemed to be angry on Patrick because he did not believe that there's life after death. She told him that his soul is immortal, and that God's Kingdom does exist, which obviously shows that she believes in God...

Later in the first season, when RJ hacked the CBI, he hacked Grace's computer. I believe she did it intentionnaly rather than a real hack by RJ in order to cloud the clues.

I dont really have a theory of who Red John really is, Ive thought it could have been several characters over the years, this is more about how i think the show will end ! I dont think jane ever will catch Red John whoever he may actually be. RJ(Red John) has always been one step ahead of jane from the beggining and i think he always will be that ope step ahead ! Time after time Jane thinks hes going to get him and RJ has ultimatly got some great plan to evade capture and make Jane look like a fool ! The last episodes of season 3 and season 4 are both great examples of RJ being smarter and getting the better of Jane !

As to who RJ really is i have no clue but I deffinatly dont think its Jane OR any of the other CBI Team

I think it's Patrick Jane's father. He's punishing Patrick for leaving the "family business." It has to be someone very close to Patrick and knows him really well, and knows exactly how to push his buttons!
