Very interesting suggestions going on here, but something bothers me on the erratic behavior of RJ. Why would he act so rashly in the last 2 episodes ( ep 4 and 5 ) ? I can't see a definite pattern in his actions so I really begin to think that RJ is not one unique person but an avatar used by several persons.
I'm going to discuss a very serious matter , this is possibly the biggest clue Ever to be left about red john.. How many people have three dots as tattoos on there arm? Not many..i can assure you , now lets think this through logically , In the next episode Patrick puts the rest of the suspects in a room and interrogates them , now We all know this happens in episode 6 , we all know we find out who red john is on episode 8. Leaving 2 episodes.. now we know jane has a shot gun to every one of the red john suspects and if the clue is real/Rj is on the list It would just take him episode 6 to figure out who red john is.. honestly it wouldn't take 2 whole episodes , specially when we have the suspects in one room and jane with leverage over them (The shotgun) , now lets look at the possibilities Shall we??
1.The suspects manage to get out before jane ever Interrogates them properly..
2.Red john isn't on the list. (Patrick would have episode 7 and 8 left to figure him out)
3.Bruno heller lied about episode 8 being when we find red john and it is infact this episode... (This could explain why episode 8 only has bertram and smith amongst all suspects , I mean finding out who red john is without actually showing him could be thought of as bad writing on brunos part , .. this episode contains all 5 Suspects as guest stars , i would be thrilled if we figure who he is on this episode but i doubt its true)
So let me Ask you guys , What option do you think is the most plausible? In my humble opinion i think it's Either 2 or 3 , because i don't see any other way why we wouldn't find rj in episode 6 IF he was on the list , I mean hey ill shoot you if you dont take off your shirt.. that seems pretty convincing.. plus PJ is a genius he'll notice some behavioral patterns in the suspects in the room , anyways if you have any more thoughts or possibilities you can add in this i would love to see them , thank you for your time...
PS:- I put up haffners name because if Rj was on the list i guess it would be him (Best fit)

Why should rj be lefthanded?
Just because of the knife in his Hand in the lisbon-scene?
I don't think so. Because he just out the knife in That Hand to draw the smiley with his right Hand.
And so he Must be right handed....
There are some possibilities as for the previous episode:
1- the girl did not know the guy's name so she didn't tell jane who he was
2- Since she recognizes him as soon as she opens the door, he was not wearing a hoodie or mask
3- He has to be related to visualize because she was hired by the group
But cmon I say this is bullshit, she could easily have said his name (if she knew it) or like his hair colour, if he is old or fat, and they know RJ was just there and no one even looks for him when they get there? and really how fast is this guy, cuz the police was 6 blocks from there at night so he kills her and gets away (probably by car) and no one sees it?
If Jane doesn't undress all of the suspects in the next episode (which as a description says that all remaining RJ suspects will be gathered) it will be really disappointing.
I say it's Haffner due to a mishearing of the word acrophobia to aracnophobia and his link to visualize and physical profile.
Stiles wouldnt be able to kill her and get away so nimbly cuz he is too old. Smith is a Tyger Tyger member.
Also, isnt it strange that Rigsby says "I'm gonna find you somebody to love" and then all of a sudden the girl starts talking to cho? I mean I know she was hired but it's a very strong coincidence.

I read a theory that I disagreed with, yet upon doing so a possible clue was revealed regarding Ray Haffner as Red John:

Food for thought:
In my opinion, the character of Red John is too smart to make a move like the one made in the argument above. I suspect Ray Haffner is the last "RED Herring" in the series, before the real Red John is revealed.
It is plausible that the Real Red John set this whole situation up, to make Ray look like Red John. I suspect Ray did have something to do with the death of the private eye, however he is not Red John. A tattoo with three marks? This clue was too easy, almost as if it was fed to us to accept.
I suspect, the real puppeteer behind the scenes, is orchestrating the down fall of the Desert Rose list of suspects. Ask yourself, why would the real Red John share a list of 7 names that his identity was on, only to implicate himself. He has been in control of himself and countless others for a very long time, while evading capture ...only to be found on a final list of 7?
Then again, Loreleis intervention changed things - so it is possible, although I don't think so. Red John is a ghost of a character, and my concern of course is with the show ramping down with the final season and the reveal around the corner - I feel the real Red John's identity will be found out, but he will simply elude capture leaving the last part of Season 6 focusing the loop on the Tyger Club and Visualize.
Hello fellow amateur theorists
This is my first posting so I hope to present my theory in a coherent and logical manner.
First, I'd like to state that I think the list of seven is one of the worst lists and presented an underwhelming and awful conclusion to The Mentalist. None of the suspects truly represented to me a suitable intellect or appearance to consider them Red John Therefore I consider Red John to be someone not on the list and believe like some of you others that in next weeks episode Patrick is simply luring out Red John. It suits his character and his whole demeanour this season.
That being said I'd just like to say that for too long they have beaten around the bush and thrown every escape out of revealing Red John. Because of this I am hoping they can give a coherent and comprehensive explanation to HOW Red John pulled off everything he did in the past five seasons, any cop out or lack of explanation will damage the show (to be honest after we find out who Red John is I'm pretty sure the show will end as it is a mediocre show without the Red John subject matter).
In summary:
Red John is not one of the seven on the list
The reveal of Red John requires an extensive exposition on the HOW and WHY of his actions
The fact that Haffner is the prime suspect is disappointing and horrible, he'd be the worst Red John ever (so dumb that Jane got is whole team back from right under his nose).
Unless there is a twist that changes the suspects to someone outside of the seven I think we can all agree that it'll be a very underwhelming conclusion to the hunt for Red John.
