Without much doubt, I suspect Mcallister because of the following points:

1. He is around 6 feet tall.
2. He has rough hands
3. He is not muscular or soft
4. He has short straight hair.
5. He is very calm in the roughest of times. Look at the next episode, even Brett Stiles got scared when Jane pointed a gun at him but Sheriff looked unmoved.
6. In the room with Bertram and Smith, look closely after Jane leaves, how Sheriff is staring at Bertram. He is the only one in the room who sounds a bit shocked when Jane talks about Sophie Miller. Jane cannot spot he is faking it as he is a pathological liar.
7. He wears the same shoes as RJ.
8. He said he likes to hunt anything with a face. That makes sense.
9. In season 6 episode 3, at the end look at him shooting the suspect, bull's eye. RJ too had shot accurately in season 2 finale
10. He shot with his right hand in the season 6 episode 3, while he uses his left hand to pull up Jane and to use his walkie talkie. Well apart from him, RJ is the only one who can use both hands easily.
11. None of the other suspects have been shown to be smarter than PJ except Stiles. But if you watch the episode 3 of season 2, you can clearly say that Sheriff is a lot smarter. Even Jane was surprised when he climbed the ladder. He said "where did you come from?" Only RJ has been able to outwit Jane till now. Maybe Sheriff got to know when they visited Napa that they had come to investigate him. Thats why he kept a close watch on Jane.
12. His age according to the script will be around 50 by now. So the Kid at that farm would be around 21 years old. Fits it.
13. The kid portraying Sheriff looks very much like him. Its got to be him.

RJ wil be someone jane least suspects.  jane suspects patridge  a lil to much. if patridge is RJ which I highly doubt , there will be NO element of surprise and a lil boring and poor. think outside the box fans . Don't be mislead with what heller is feeding you all the time.

guys, just to let you know that bruno heller said that RJ IS in the seven names. and remember the mentalist revolves around patrick stewart and the life inside his mind. why would the writers lead you to distrust his mind?

Hmmm, Gale Bertram looks just like my Boss.  My Boss is evil, therefore, Bertram must be Red John!

This is not so much of a theory but mealy a few of my observations. From what we understand Red John leaves the "smiley" at ever murder he commits, correct? Was I the only one who didn't see one at the latest scene. As Patrick once said "Red John is a showman." This leads me to believe it wasn't Red John? But maybe I've made an error(please correct me if I have.)

My second observation is that Van Pelt and Rigsby's lives seem to be going along rather easy of late. Almost too good to be true? I can only think that there is action to come for these two; and with the two actors leaving the show I wouldn't be surprised if Red John became involved.

Finally as I look to the new episode's promo. All I can think is it's too easy and according to the episode title's too soon. However I can only feel like Patrick has a plan. And this plan will be his best ever, I just hope it isn't a boring ending. We want excitement and drama and I feel like some of these new episode have been more about dropping lots of false clues.

I genially have no idea who Red John is, I was sure it was Partridge before the list was revealed(due to the theories on this website.) But he's dead and anyone who argues that he isn't is delirious. It seems to easy to be Haffner or the sheriff as they have dropped too many clues. And as far as the physical description goes, we shouldn't trust it. Red John brainwashes everyone along side him to do what he says, so surely he could of planted false information?

He has been there since the beginning: "Red John enters here."
It's the perfect poetic justice/balance.
I don't care if it is too "obvious."  He is so Red John creepy/smart/just socially awkward enough.
Just the way he looks at Jane; he's the under-dog that you almost can see is justified to get back at Jane for all of his "bullying" and ribbing.
Fakes stupidity.
Under their noses -- hidden in plain sight.
Had complete control over staging his "death" scene -- motive still to be revealed.
He's only in Red John frame episodes (beginning and ending of seasons).

All in all, whoever it is, most fans (who read this site) will be pissed and disappointed, right?  After reading so many theories, I think that the Bruno Heller is damned to disappoint at least 60% of his fan base.

But, Brett is the only satisfying choice, in a literary sense.  The others are (read: should be) red herrings to hang evidence on.  If they are Red John it's like Big F'ing Deal, okay good job.  Some random dude that wasn't in the pilot -- added in the middle of the show, who may have been in 2 or more episodes before this season, yay!

I still think Kristina Frye's involved -- if there is no point to all the red-headed women in this show, for symbolic meaning, then there was a very missed opportunity.

Brett and Kristina sitting in a tree, K-I-L-L-I-N-G!
