I think it's Gale Bertram. When Patrick first meets Gale (S03E01 I believe) he mentions that he gets a bad feeling about Gale. Additionally, he says that he finds himself compelled to "wind up" Gale Bertram.
And when Patrick confronts the pseudo Red John - Timothy Carter - who is in the mall with Patrick? Gale Bertram.
After watching the last episode I have come to the conclusion that RJ is Bret Stiles... the Tyger Tyger is the next chapter after his dead. PJ already killed a man thinking he was RJ, I don't see PJ "killing him again". Red John will not die by the hands of PJ but because of his disease... however, at episode 8, they will both officially meet right before he dies
No theory here. Just wanted to share my opinion that the show has been extended far long to reveal red john. I think Bruno has made a mess of his storyline himself, especially with bringing up the 'Tyger tyger' organization all of a sudden in the 6th season (So as to keep the show going on after RJ is killed/arrested ---> $$$MONEY$$$ )
Its a fact people - whatever clues we are given, nothing is concrete. Whatever theories we come up with, Bruno can change Red John at any point of time. Its all about timing, expectation of the audience, and of course MONEY.
Yes, it is Reede Smith and, yes, he's a disappointment.
1) We are working a bit too hard here. Heller has said that the person is on the list.
2) The previews are telling us that the killer is one of three people with the tattoo.
3) If we go back to the office scene where all three were talking about Jane, it was Smith who was in charge.

I always felt like that episode where the photo came from was about the closest that we had gotten to seeing Red John.
5) Our main reason for not liking it to be Reede is his weight. Height and age are about right.
I keep going back and forth between the sheriff and Reede, but I think it's going to be Reede.

Or at least that's what Heller wants us to believe. If Partridge ISNT RJ, I am really looking forward to his explanation for the thousand and one clues that point that way.
I think that that girl that RJ killed last episode worked for him and was willing to 'dedicate her life to him' like a lot of the others, I also think that RJ knows about the organisation within law enforcement and he is tricking Patrick by making the girl say what she said (also would RJ really leave one of his victims alive?) so now he is a step ahead when Patrick thinks he has him. Throughout the whole series RJ has been 'the smartest guy in the room', why would be accidently show his compromising tattoo? why would he bug CBI? Why would be allow himself to be controlled by Patrick Jane? Red John is playing us.
