Definitely him ! Relentless, manipulating, red tie, this is a the moment when you ghost just pass across you and you didn't notice it, just feeling eerie. Ok that is not so logical..but intuitive.

Money on Kirkland. Trust me, RJ wants to bring down Tiger Tiger, and uses Jane to unmasked the secret society
among the 7 suspects, 3 are Tiger Tiger big boys, 2 are visualizer clan, Brett Partridge, must got to do with story from the carnival thing (anyway he is dead) , and the one with missing twins, not visualizer and not Tiger Tiger. boom. 

I am sure its the twins conspiracy, with a solid story from the past where all suspect are interconnected, and the RJ bros coming for a revenge to Tiger2, visualiser, and brett, and maybe young Jane who used to faked his psychic for money. 

The gun to kill Kirkland was taken from the half shadowed driver, could be faked.. or one bro down. Ouch..

Mentallist in general is a show to trick your mind and eye believing something that quite twisting the truth, giving you fake cards to leading you to wrong interpretation, then reveal the truth at the other unexpected end.

Beware don't look too close, the closer you look the less you see.....

We see Bertram talk with Lisbon and after she leaves we find out that Kirkland was behind the door listeing. When I first saw this I thoght that none of the two were Red John and that they were working together to find or to help Red John. But with what we know right now I see this in a different way. 
If that guy is Bob Kirkland and if he didn't lie to Jane in 6x04, that scene doesn't make sense for me because we know that Bob was working to put the Tiger Tiger organization down, he doesn't trust policeman specially high up, so why work this close with Bertram??
One possible look at this is that, Bertram is Red John and that guy is the other Kirkland brother, RJ friend. 
Yeah, I don't like this theory because it envolves twins and stuff and I always feel like that is a soap opera kind of material but never the less is a possibility.

PS: Bruno Heller let Red John be anyone except for Reed Smith (and Bret Stiles). I kind of both love and hate this show right now :s

I have a hard time believing RJ would mark himself with a tatoo like this. I don't think he would join a conspiracy like this, either. If it goes south I would hurt him considerately.

So, my money is on Haffner, because he fits the desription perfectly and Stiles is a bit too old (though I really would like him to be RJ).

Just a thought. 

Anyone else think it would be weird for RJ to be killed or even captured half way through a season?  Usually big events like that happened at the season ending episode.  My thought it we will learn who RJ is at the episode called Red John (8) since that is the title of the episode and the episodes after have different colours in the titles, but it would make sense for the climax to happen at the end of the season.  Am I right?

Does anyone think the scene showing Thomas McAllister hunting deer had anything to do
With it?

Also, I'd be quite annoyed if it turned out to be reede, plus his body shape doesn't match the character we saw rescue PJ from those mental film students.

It's not Gale Bertram, or Bret Stiles, but most likely is a tag team made up of:
Kessie Dunninger
Hollis Dunninger
Mandy Schultz
Gangs recruited by these three

Let's look at why these three, or at least, Kessie and Hollis anyway.
Kessie Dunninger from "Redemption".
Why?
1) She has red-hair, so could well be the 'Red John' - the 'Red' part anyway.
2) She may be tag-teaming to do the Red John, she being the thinker and the 'John' being the doer [although who the John is, well, open to question)
3) There has been this theory going round on a few websites discussing The Mentalist. It makes enough sense in context.

But who could Red John's accomplices be:
1) Her dad Hollis, the 'John' of the partnership; this theory was posted on a showbiz site in the UK. 'John', if you think about it... 'John' being slang for an everyman, an average man.
2) Mandy Schultz (who apparently made a cameo during one of the episodes which had Lorelei in it) - helping Kessie plan the murder? (that theory was posted on a website few months back).
3) A small gang of people that are recruited to carry out these murders recruited by the Red John team.

It would not surprise me if Red John was a non-existent person, and just a pseudonym for a group of people, a 'house name' for a murderer if you like.

Theories about it being the CBI / FBI etc. could be debunked based on this line of reasoning; I'm surprised that the characters of Kessie and Hollis Dunninger and Mandy Schultz haven't been added to the accuse list on the site!

The motive, though, is a little fuzzier, but British fans continue to debate why.

I would be surprised to see what your comments are on this theory; it does make a bit of sense, and is widely popular with British viewers.
I am a UK viewer of the show, just for the record.
