I don't really have a good idea on who it is -  but I am pretty sure who it isn't - Bob Kirkland.

There is a timeline issue as to whether Lorelei could know that Bob and Patrick have met as she was incarcerated at the time.

There is the manner in which he kills Jason Lennon - no trademark killing here.

But for me the biggie is Jason knows RJ (hence the reason he has to die) and he doesn't know Bob Kirkland. Therefore Bob is not Red John.

If it has to be one of the seven, I have to go with Brett. But  I wouldn't be surprised if it were not one of the seven. I think Patrick set a trap with the board and the seven names. Obviously, RJ knows the names because he broke into the attic and saw the results. And Patrick knows he did.

remember in season 5 episode 9 how it shoes jane's notebook with some of the people that he shook their hands

only one name on that list is on the final seven: brett partridge

find that suspicious?

My suspect is Brett Partridge. Why? I have a reason:

Look closely to the chapters in which the coroner appears, her voice sweet and methodical.
I am a technical audio recording, I used a program to reduce the noise of the masks used by Rj the last chapter of the second season, and his voice is like Brett.
In a experimeto contario decided to do, I took the audio of Brett and added the similar effect of the mask and the result would not be different from identical to the chapter.

Everyone knows that Rj is very smart and Bruno Heller may be playing tricks on everyone.

We will not know the conduct of the sixth season.

This article has a link with a quote from Bruno. Basically reaffirming that we will know RJ identity MID-SEASON. The plot from there seems to include the reality of whether Jane will murder RJ or not. Prior Lisbon always questioned this, proclaiming, "I am the law". 

I cannot wait to see how it will play out. I believe the most likely and would be favorite RJ is Brett.

How could he save himself at the end of season 2 ?

Red John appeared and killed like 3 people in front of Jane before picking his chair up and singing "tiger tiger" at him.

Also when Jane got back from being on TV his family was dead, and wasn't he at the CBI while some of the murders were committed ?

Brett Partridge is Bret Stile's son.

Unknown to everyone else, that's why their first names are so close.

The father knows the son well, but won't betray him to an extent.

While Brett may be the most likely suspect i'm wary because its usually someone you least expect, for example no one really new the killer would be Detective Miller's husband in Broadchurch until the final episode. 

Most the evidence points to him but i'm guessing there's going to be a big twist and its someone we least expect.

It's clearly not Patrick, how could he save himself in the series 2 finale ?
