By the way, I think Gale Bertram is RJ, but I'll honestly be fine with anyone besides Smith. "Anyone besides Smith" seems to be the popular opinion, and I'm in full agreement. 

All I ask is that the writers have created a PLAUSIBLE story. I can't have another show go down the toilet because things aren't explained or cannot be explained *cough LOST cough*. As long as RJ does his creepy little voice when he's revealed, I'll be happy.

Not a theory, just a question. Which episode is it that Bertram quotes William Blake to Lisbon and LaRoche? I wanted to rewatch that episode but I can't remember which one it was. Was it Red Queen or a different one?

Look there! It's a spoiler from The Great Red Dragon. I think we can be pretty sure Reede Smith is not Red John, because of this and of serveral other reasons.

If I have to pick between Bertram and McAllister I pick Bertram, he had the most charactar development and Jane knew him, they hadn't just met in a one-time-encounter. 

Scarlett55's theory is absolutely correct and makes perfect sense except for a couple of stuff. You failed to recognize that Jane and Red John made the list of 7 together in advance so that Jane could fool the CBI ( through Lisbon ) that Red John is one of those 7 men. In reality both PJ and RJ wanted to bring down the organisation.Why would Patrick work with the man who killed his family? Because Red John did not...............tiger tiger killed Patrick's family and wanted to frame Red John for it. They obviously did not know that Jane and RJ were in contact with one another hence he knew RJ was innocent of this crime. Red John and Jane are probably close to one another and that's why Jane won't give him up to the cops........................probably because he knows RJ will be killed in custody by tiger tiger so first they take them down then Jane will betray Red John. 

Or Partridge the Zombie is Red John.

About the numbers 666 being "of the devil" and matching "red john", "patrick", "jane" but not "patrick jane" etc...; the word pigeon makes 666 too!

Firstly, i'd like to say that i would be
disappointed if McAllister were RJ, because his charater changed a lot
since episode "Red hair and silver tape". I mean, i didn't even
recognized him this season, i thought that he was portraited by another
actor, not Xander Berkeley.

Ok, now, let's go to the main point:
se.05 ep. 22 - "Red John's Rules". When Lisbon is talking to Jane about
who was Aileen Turner/Leelee Barlow, Lisbon told Jane abou HER happy
memory, it was: Lisbon's mother feeding pigeons at the park,
related to the song "MacArthur Park" (a cake left out in the rain).
After that, in episode 06x02, "Red-winged black bird", there's that
scene with Lisbon and Jane at that park and a strange woman feeding pigeons.

So,
reading this song lyrics, it refers to a cake that take so long to bake
(it reminds me Sophie's head in the oven). But i can't find something
really interesting in this lyrics.
But (!!!!!!) the pigeons are
important references. Since Red John was in a house full of pigeons when
he "killed" Brett Partridge, how could RJ be Sheriff McAllister, if
he's afraid of birds?

Ok, so admitidly all of the suspects have majory creepiness levels, but being a creep does'nt necesserily mean your a serial killer. So who is Red John? I think Bertram is the Best candidate. Not only is he strange but he is also connected, a member of Tyger Tyger and (due to his possition) able to keep an eye on Jane and the Red John investigation. He also told Jane that he would be there when Jane caught Red John and low and behold when Jane shot and killed "Red John" who was there? None other then Gale Bertram.

P.S Bertram is great at whistling.
