you can see at 00:11 that red john isnt fat, he has a thin body.
and this scene is known to be genuine and not rj's trick or something.

I just stumbled over something PJ says in the following trailer on CBS.com:

http://www.cbs.com/shows/the_mentalist/red-john/

At about 02:00 he says "I recall all the names of the people that I've met since RJ murdered my family". This means RJ cannot be someone of his early carnival days and neither someone he met during his psychic phase, which obviously ended with the murderer of his wife and daughter.

This rules out quite a few theories about PJ having a (step) brother who decided to turn against him etc., doesn't it?

Okay, I've thought a bit, and I really feel that my point should have been summised more effectively, seeing as I truly believe I have just uncovered Red John's identity.

My two MAJOR points are this:

1. Heller's only ever-given clue to Red John's identity was this- "Red John likes THE COLD".

One of the most famous-ever cold reading analogies was that of American psychologist Bertram R Forer, who came up with the psychiatrically famed "Forer Effect" in 1948. The theory observes that individuals will correlate strongly to personality tests supposedly tailored for them selves, but are actually vague and broad enough to apply to a wide range of people. This concisely matches Heller's only ever given clue- Forer was a leading figure in the science behind cold-reading which emerged in the mid 20th century.... And his name, above all else, was Bertram.

2. The William Blake line that Bertram quotes to Lisbon in Season 3, is from Blake's poem/lullaby "Cradle Song", written in 1789. What the poem conceives is that of a mother, singing to her infant son as he sleeps and fearing for his future, and what the world will make of it. The mother ponders specifically how her sleeping child's purity and innocence will be soon lost, and Blake even displays some considerable aesthetic reference to his poems "The Lamb" and "The Tyger", which also examined similar notions.

However, my more concrete argument for Bertram's being Red John is what "Cradle Song" references more heavily... Smiling.

CRADLE SONG

Sweet dreams form a shade,
O'er my lovely infants head.
Sweet dreams of pleasant streams,
By happy silent moony beams

Sweet sleep with soft down.
Weave thy brows an infant crown.
Sweet sleep Angel mild,
Hover o'er my happy child.

Sweet smiles in the night,
Hover over my delight.
Sweet smiles Mothers smiles,
All the livelong night beguiles.

Sweet moans, dovelike sighs,
Chase not slumber from thy eyes,
Sweet moans, sweeter smiles,
All the dovelike moans beguiles.

Sleep sleep happy child,
All creation slept and smil'd.
Sleep sleep, happy sleep.
While o'er thee thy mother weep

Sweet babe in thy face,
Holy image I can trace.
Sweet babe once like thee.
Thy maker lay and wept for me

Wept for me for thee for all,
When he was an infant small.
Thou his image ever see.
Heavenly face that smiles on thee,

Smiles on thee on me on all,
Who became an infant small,
Infant smiles are His own smiles,
Heaven & earth to peace beguiles.

So, there you have it. That's why I firmly believe that CBI director Gale Bertram is in fact Red John.

By the way, my username of "Steve_Seattle" was accidental, and I only used it again in my second post so that I could be identified. My name is not Steve, and I am not from Seattle at all.

BERTRAM (maybe) is RED JOHN.
As I found out , that maybe, if everything fits  despite the descriptions, Bertram is RJ
Jane
certainly has checked any bugs on him, and at the end of 3x24; only him,
Cho and Rigsby knew the precise location of the meeting, and they were
already there (unless they have spilled two of them, unintentionally ,
no one knew anything of outside this circle ) . Also have spoken out of the CBI, and Bertram at the time of the phone call in the office, did not know the exact location. In addition, there is the story of the "rope": what killer goes down with a rope, instead the door?  Bertram
also holds Jane, to the suggestion with rope, in accordance with the
dynamics of the arrival of O'Laughlin to the hut, probably expecting
that Jane send him away, after realizing it was wrong mole so that it
can start the trap of Carter, which is just opposite.Jane
thinks Bertram is the mole, alone in the car tells him where they are
going , he will be wearing a wire or make a few phone calls , and Jane
of course makes him do, he wants RJ arises.Who else could get there in time to make real the mall Timothy Carter, if not Bertram ? O'Laughlin ? No. Partridge ? Even. Smith? No. Haffner? Not even him.So Bertram is involved , such as a mole or RJ . We
do not know if Carter arrive before their (with help of RJ) or after ( following Jane and Bertram ) or simultaneously with Jane and Bertram,
however, we see already there, and probably get real-time, and
consumes his coffee while Bertram and Jane drink tea
and coffee, he then reads his newspaper (in my opinion contains the
latest instructions of RJ, it is the same copy of the Sacramento
Business Journal that Bertram had in his hand the day before, with the
same words, even while Lisbon enters and he is drinking tea in the office at CBI) .Excluding things like bug in the necklace of Van Pelt,  Bertram is in RJ's net. Now,
if in the latest episodes in which will be unveiled RJ and end his
storyline, there will be Smith, Bertram, Haffner, the sheriff, the
sheriff McAllister or Haffner are possible that both RJ and Bertram his big mole in the
CBI, Smith should be the mole 90% in the FBI, the "crimson hat", but if the sheriff and Haffner were
discarded, as well as Partridge (as happened ), tha same thing on Stiles and Kirkland,
Bertram may not be the mole, because Smith can not be RJ, but the
friend who RJ has the FBI, it would not make sense if he were in the FBI and even his friend worked there ( if it was another ) . But by rumors and leaks from the episode "Red John", maybe will appear just Smith and Bertram, in 6x08 .

So Bertram would RJ, inevitably, to the alibis and positions, and Smith is friend. I had this illumination, taking an old theory of last year, I had long abandoned the absence of Bertram from the series.

Bertram is clearly the only one who can leave his cell phone (at 725 Delta Avenue in Sacramento), because florets little to go back, is very close from the abandoned house of 5570 West Huron, Sacramento (maximum 20 minutes in half an hour-40 Minutes did everything), and not arouse suspicion, even for machines without using disciples, he will have limos and chauffeurs, as "political."

I forgot to add- "Cradle Song" is a poem that entails great emphasis on SMILING. Here is the poem in its entirety:

Sweet dreams form a shade,
O'er my lovely infants head.
Sweet dreams of pleasant streams,

Sweet sleep with soft down.
Weave thy brows an infant crown.
Sweet sleep Angel mild,
Hover o'er my happy child.

Sweet smiles Mothers smiles,
All the livelong night beguiles.

Sweet moans, dovelike sighs,
Chase not slumber from thy eyes,
Sweet moans, sweeter smiles,
All the dovelike moans beguiles.

Sleep sleep happy child,
All creation slept and smil'd.
Sleep sleep, happy sleep.
While o'er thee thy mother weep

"Red John likes The Cold"- Bruno Heller's Hint

The Forer Effect- Psychological idea, in which the individual will give a high accuracy rating to a description of their personality, supposedly tailored for them alone, yet is vague, broad and all-encompassing to apply to any one.
In Short: A very, very famous COLD READING technique.

First-Time Experimenter: An American psychological scientist, going by the name of none other than Bertram R. Forer.
