THE THEORIES

The Mentalist is the highest rated show in the world and had held this title for quite a while.
Fans tend to be more critical on message boards, myself included.
But this show is great. We all love it no matter how much they piss us off. Shows take you on a emotional roller-coaster tugging at each string of the heart.
Sometimes you gotta enjoy the slow periods because they lead to greatness in the end. I have never met a mentalist season finale that i hadn't liked.

I accuse Patrick Jane to knowingly arresting the wrong suspect as the killer in the last episode Black Helicopters.

What leads me to this conclusion is the following:

1.) His speech to the "leader" Alex before he adresses the group:

"Alex. I like what you're doing here, and I want to help you. Will you let me
speak to them now? I'm gonna say something that may shock you, but if you work with me, I guarantee you will come out of this a big hero. You will be golden. I promise. Yes?"

2. ) Alex behavoir during Janes "thing"

After that speech he assembles all suspect over 45.  Alex is the only one shown in a ray of light.

Jane is walking back and forth.

"Edith Firlock knew a lot of radical fringe types from the old days. One of those old friends... is on the run"

As he delivers his first punchline he looks strait into Alex' eyes.

he turns and continues: "...and using your farm to hide out" as he delivers this second part Alex bows his head in shame.

Jane walks back toward the other side.

"Now, I think Edith figured that out and came down to pay a visit."

"Any takers?"

As Jane asks that question he again looks strait into Alex' eyes. After a moments hesitation Alex turns his head to break eye contact and evade the glance.

As Jane gets arid of all none gun owners the camera first shows Alex looking down and then again his head in the light as the others leave.

"The killer's starting to get nervous. The killer feels like
it's 110 degrees in here."

As he plants that suggestion Alex wipes sweat of his forehead. Jane eliminates the two people to the left and right of Alex.

The look of despair is quite apparent on his face:

[/u...........]

Patrick is continuing planting suggestions:

"And I would suggest that the killer can now see Edith... Every time they blink.Yeah. You can see her, right? Coming for revenge. Right in the corner of your vision."

As Jane is finishing the last sentence Alex is pushing his shirt to the side ready to draw his gun. While the other 3 suspects are listening with expression ranging from sleepy, bored to annoyed Alex face and body display extreme tension.

Jane finishes the speech by saying:
"That poor woman."

He again faces Alex and stares strait into his eyes with nothing but a few inches between them.

Just before Alex was about to break Marsha steps in to take the blame. Soon after she drew her weapon she starts crying looking at Alex.

Earlier this episode Jane said:

"Well, knowing what people secretly want is what I do."

Jane knowing what people secretly want is a major theme of the episode.
He did it with Cho, Wiley, Abbot and Agent Fischer. He did the same with Marsha.
He figured out that she was secretly in love with Alex and hence would sacrifice herself to save him.

It fits very well with a theory i have been pondering fore some time now.

"Red John" is dead because it became irrelevant. Jane is no longer struggling against his true nature of being a sociopath, a killer and possibly a real psychic. Ever since the new beginning Jane ceased cynically arguing against any possibility of the supernatural.

He defeated McAllister by pulling a pigeon out of his jacket. There is not much else more classical and cliche when it comes to stage magic then to have live bird appear out of nowhere.

Why did the new episode not start off where the last episode ended? They didn't show a forensic presence in the crime scene of Ardile's murder...........hell how come the police didn't search the "creepy" warehouse? Instead a fat internal affairs guy went in with an unarmed man and was killed with a tripwire. The murder of the day was lame as fuck too. A good piece of advice, skip 38 mins of the episode so in the last 5 mins you can watch the "mysterious" plot and that's the only "exciting" part of the show. I don't know how much more of Kim fisher i can take, she's practically taking all of Lisbon's screen time!! WTF.

I just noticed something when i re-watched S 5.13 this morning. I can't help but be reminded of Jane everytime i see the signature RJ smiley face. The way the eyes are drawn and the smile itself. Reminds me of Jane's smile but what really stands out to me is the 'tears' that seem to fall from its eyes. We all know Jane is deeply tormented and feels immense guilt about his past so he puts a facade. I don't know if the writers/creator deliberately chose this design to reflect Jane and RJ in one another or if it has a deeper involvement into the plot or if it's mere coincidence, i just thought it worth pointing out. I still can't believe the sheriff was RJ.

The poem & my sentiments about it ...

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dead grasp,
Dare it's deadly terrors clasp!

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who make the lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

This poem completely contradicts Bruno Heller's sentiments about the Red John character. It absolutely points to an unknown entity that has not yet been fully shown to us the audience.

"These people, serial killers ... they are just people. They are not special and to glorify them is not what this show is about"

The poem glorifies the tiger 100% without question. The tiger is beautiful, majestic, glorious and yet it has a horrific capacity for violence & darkness. That is the symmetry: equal beauty & horror.
All work reflects the creator in some way and so the poem asks ... what does such a creation say about the creator? What kind of divine being (immortal hand) could have the capacity to "twist the sinews of thy heart" in such a being? What kind of divine being could have created such beauty and yet such horror. "Did he smile his work to see?"

This poem must have been chosen deliberately before the first episode ...

I cannot understand why this poem was chosen if it was to represent Sheriff Thomas McAllister ... if it was chosen to represent someone who runs and begs for their life ... someone who's opinion of them self has been inflated and is not particularly beautiful and yet horrifically violent and dark.

Tigers do not run. Tigers do not beg for their life. Tigers do not have inflated opinions of themselves.

Whoever ... whatever this poem was meant to represent ... we are unaware of it/him/her. You don't inspire a show from a beautiful poem and give not only a week representation of it but a contradictory one. Especially after you glorified Red John for six and a half seasons ...

Unless Bruno Heller's intent was to quite literally show a man with "delusions of grandeur" who was in fact a pathetic normal person whom did not have the power he assumed in himself, who did not have "real psychic powers" ... unless the poem was meant to represent inflated ego and vanity which is a poor representation of the poem ... then we do not yet know the real Tyger.

I personally love the show regardless and in any case.

Although this show has taken a turn for the worse,i still miss Patrick Jane and the rest of the CBI. If RJ does comeback,Heller still has a massive task ahead of him to put so many random clues together and make perfect sense of each and every one.

Am I wrong to say that RJ wanted PJ to become like himself? For 6 years PJ committed several illegalities and at least two murders to find out who killed his wife and daughter, right? RJ wanted to show him, let's call it, 'the dark side'. He wanted to convert him into beeing an extraordinary criminal like himself. And somehow he succeeded, don't you think so? Jane wouldn't care if anybody gets hurt (okay maybe besides the CBI team) if he could get the least information about RJ. The audience loves him because we know what he went through. But if you look at the facts, he's beeing most of all an asshole all over that manipulates and blackmails people the same way RJ does. He's not better than him, except he's not raping and killing people. But in the end PJ is just another criminal that's out for revenge he eventually gets by putting the lifes of a lot of people on the line. Sometimes I believe he doesn't even have guilty conscience while beeing on a rampage for almost 6 years.

P.S.: I don't know who you are, but thanks to whoever suggested 'True Detective'. It's awesome!
