I've just finished watching "Sherlock" and I realized something:

Supposing that Sherlock Holmes and Patrick Jane have similar skills,
(They do have a lot of common skills, like extremely high observation, arrogance, narcisism, they consult the police solving crimes etc)

Then, Moriarty and Red John should also have similar skills.
Well they don't.The way Red John appeared in the 8th episode makes me state that.
When Sherlock meets Moriarty, he has a gun.But Moriarty has 3-4 men pointing him with snipers.
When Patrick meets Red John, he has a gun and a pigeon (well...) and Red John has Cordero (HOLY crap) and a lady with a knife?

OK, don't get me wrong, but Red John is gay. I was watching the series and I've been obsessed with Red John.I started to be on his side, just because I wanted the hunt to go on.From what we watched for 5 seasons, He was a human being far beyond others.Elegant, strong, determined, secretive, clever, manipulative, he was there and he wasn't there. He was extremely educated, sophisticated, arrogant, playful, he managed to take advantage of the pain of the others and turn them on his side eventually. He killed because he had mental issues and a childhood wound that made him hate women and use them only for sexual relationships. He is a common psycho? No.Because he is like Patrick. And Patrick has something that common people don't have.

And then we watch episode 8.Red John appears to be totally predictable, dumb as hell, sexomaniac, pervert, scared by a pidgeon and afraid of death. This man, this man has killed over 40 people, manipulated thousands of people, seduced the sexiest women, still he is afraid of death and he calls 911.Season 4 finale:
PJ: "Go to hell"
RJ: "As you well know Patrick, there is no hell. When I die I won't be punished."

So,why he is so much afraid of dying?I don't know the creators really messed up.

Red John is meant to be someone that fulfils all those things that they have shown to us the first 5 seasons. That's why people refuse to believe that RJ is dead. It's not the Sheriff, it's not the actor. It's the attidute.

And only one question comes to my mind.

WHY?

Great theories here, if only Heller could just decide to copy one of them.
Don't mean to disapoint you guys, I want is as bad as you want it, but Red John isn't coming back.(Fingers Crossed)

LOL I might just be in denial but there's no way the Red John story is over.  The Mentalist up until the 7th episode of the 6th season has been some of the smartest and most entertaining television on network T.V. . . . but nothing since Jane's house exploding has made any sense!!!   Before the explosion why cut away?  why not show what happened in the house with the gunshot?   the Bertram is Red John fake out again ???  episode 8 was such a farce    the sheer stupidity of this episode compared to any other episode in the series is what makes me believe Jane has been in a coma since the explosion    the way Bertram dies ??? Heyyy?  PATRICK JANE HIDING A PIGEON IN HIS SUIT JACKET POCKET......THROWING IT AT RED JOHN(WHO HAS A GUN)........go back and watch that scene where McAllister is trying to swat away that pigeon and tell me this isn't an explosion fueled coma nightmare........THEN MCALLISTER GETS SHOT BY A GUN JANE STASHED............they search Jane but not the church?.......JANE TURNS INTO AN ASSASSIN AND KILLS CORDERO .......picked him off pretty good for someone who doesn't like guns......BUT THE MENTALIST HIMSELF PATRICK JANE CAN'T TELL THE CRAZY BITCH SLOWLY COMING UP THE AISLE IS A RJ FOLLOWER ?? .............that was Red John"s backup plan? a middle aged crazy lady with a box cutter....ya , in case the police detective with the silencer gets killed McAllister's back up plan is this lady and he acts like he's not Red John A HELPLESS AND SHOT MCALLISTER GETS UP AND HAS A FOOT RACE WITH JANE .....CALLS 911 !!!!!  BLINKS SORRY!!! JANE CHOKES HIM TO DEATH WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!!     THEN THE SHOW TIME WARPS TWO YEARS......                                                                                                                   I always hoped Red John was someone not on the list from Jane's carnie past with strong ties to Visulize.....or Red John was a group of serial killers ....or Jane was Red John,,,,,whatever.......up until season 6 I was sure it was Partridge but when he was killed I thought either it's a fake death or he wasn't RJ and really was dead    and if he's dead who could it be?   i then thought Kirkland or Stiles would make the best Red John  --the actors who would give the best performance and that is what would make them too obvious   so I thought it would logically be Haffner(Red Barn episode)  they already did the Bertrum is Red John fake out in Peaches n Cream  and who gives a flyin fuck bout Reede and Mcallister cause they were only in one episode each and never mentioned again till the List of 7            THIS IS ALL TIMOTHY CARTER AGAIN JUST TAKEN TO A HIGHER LEVEL         if it wasn't for the Heller and Baker interviews before episode 8 and this site and I watched it without spoilers I would have never believed McAllister was RJ     season 6 should end with the reveal of the real Red John and the end of the 7th and final season should end with the death of Red John                there's still plenty of time left in the season for Red John to pop up and when he does the hardcore fans who had given up are back on board and the new fans will want to go back and watch every ep from the series          the Mentalist has enough episodes to make it into syndication doing all this now doesn't make sense      i have faith Heller has some master plan          i won't judge or condemn until the end of the season because..

......THE SEASON 6 FINALE CLIFFHANGER WILL BE RED JOHN IS STILL ALIVE AND EVERBODY WILL GO FUCKIN NUTS        AGREE?

It's funny how, before the Red John reveal, I would be watching The Mentalist and whenever someone interrupted, I would RAGE. I would be irritated at the littlest things (my brother tapping his pencil on the desk, slurping a drink until it's completely finished, etc.).  I used to concentrate on this show like no other.

Now, I'm being distracted by flies, things outside of the window, and, one time, I literally stared at a gum wrapper for 20 minutes, not realizing that I had completely spaced out while watching the show. It's ridiculous. I actually haven't seen Sunday's episode yet because I had forgotten about the show. How can The Mentalist transition from being so well-written, captivating, and amusing to almost repelling? I don't understand the thought process behind the RJ reveal (maybe there was none, or maybe there is something grand that awaits us). Regardless, the show is going down the shitter, at least for me. Obviously everyone has their own opinion of it, but if a majority of viewers are suddenly becoming disinterested in the show, that's a blatant sign that the writers fucked up, badly.

Oh well, I still enjoy people writing theories (regardless of if they'll come true in the future or not); at least you all have hope for the show. I lost it a while ago, and I'm wondering if it'll ever return for me.

Until then, Sherlock it is! Great show if you haven't seen it; watch it NOW! I wish I could say the same about The Mentalist, but then I would be lying, at least for everything including and past the horrendous RJ reveal.

6/8:  the woman in the church is played by Susan Tunney, sister of Robin Tunney.  Why go to that extreme and also show her getting away if 6/8 is the end of the RJ story?  Is she even an actor?  Why include this if it has no meaning?  Just to let her sister be in one of the shows?  Has the entire story-line fallen apart to this extent?  What's going on?  Can there really be a re-boot if the final RJ story is so in our faces and so poorly constructed?  Why should we continue to watch and be interested in this show?

Anyone who is just here to hate n pick on people like Stoppkid are trolls and should be banned I may not agree with everything he says but at least he is posting theories that are entertaining and he's one of the ones keeping the site alive the site is called WHOISREDJOHN? if you think rj is McAllister than why r u on this site and if you love this new beginnings storyline than you are a fuckin moron RED JOHN is still alive. I don't care what Heller or Baker say in interviews or what the episode titles are. Nothing that has happened has convinced me McAllister is Red John. Nothing about this is the Mentalist . Unless Heller got into a big blowout with CBS and this is just a big fuck you Red John is still alive But even that doesn't make any sense cause why punish the loyal fans. The best thing about this coma dream is Cho finally showing some personality I apologize for my perfect English I'm from North America

I'm disappointed seeing how the series has turned out
easily with red john's death.
Like most of you, I thought the story would have had
a quite more elaborated and elegant finale.
Here was my theory:

Patrick is actually a mentalist, a showman, a magic
trickster with real skills,

we'll say he is the best illusionist of the world.
He has a family: wife and daughter, as we all know
them.
But he is so proud and obsessed with his personal
glory and prestige that he progressively doesn't really care about
them.
After trying to make peace, his wife and daughter
leave him because he doesn't behave like a father but rather like a
businessman.
They decide to silently escape but they die in a
car/plane accident.
When patrick finds they're dead, he realizes it has
happened all because of his egoistic and self centric mania.
He finally feels guilty, so guilty that he can't
accept what he has done, he is driven insane by his guilt sense, or
more likely it makes he falls in coma.
Thus he is trapped in false memory, that he, the
mentalist, has institued (mental-ist).
This false reality created by patrick's mind is
populated by all people introduced in the series from season one.
Anyway, the guilt sense is so strong that it still
remains even in this mental condition, and since patrick can't charge
himself for his wife and daughter deaths, his mind also generates his
worst enemy: red john.
Red john is then charged for the homicide of
patrick's family and portraited as evil itself.
(If you pay attention you can notice that red john is
a character built with many different elements from most known serial
killers cases.
For example, the red smile is from the serial killer
smiley face,
the women-victim line is from jack the ripper,
the relationship with a blind woman is from the novel
Red Dragon, in which appears hannibal lecter, and other elements are
taken from William Blake's bibliography and iconography, author that
revalued the role of the devil, an innocent that was unjustly judged
guilty by god.)
In this way, patrick can demonstrate himself
innocent, more, he represents him to himself like a brave knight
after the most terrible (Blake's) demon.
On the other hand, his mind wants him to find himself
responsible for what happened to his family, so through the storyline
there are a few little clues that indicates the fake (the red john's
voice that sounds like jane's, some clues about red john that don't
match each other...).
So jane has to run after red john until he realizes
there is no red john, no direct killing but a fatal accident caused
by his snooty pride.
then he awakes, he admits his guilts and
finally he makes peace with the memory of his wife and daughter.

Well...I think I could write my own novel about this,
and so could you all!

I've read so many interesting theories that made me
think about...there's a bit of red john in each one of us :)

sorry for bad English,

cheers! :)
