THE THEORIES

I'd like to point out that when you pick up a drink, you usually do it with your weaker hand/arm. Just like many of you right now could be resting your chin in your left palm while laying down or sitting, scrolling.
Also, Pigeon lady looks familiar, ring matches the same sort of style red john has but it looks like partridge as a transexual and partridge is dead.
If you were Bruno Heller and his brilliant mind, who would you think up as RJ?
Also, my money goes on Haffner since he smells of evil. Or Mashburn.

Just a thought.

I hate to admit it will be Jane because I admire him so much and learned so much from him, but the fact is, there is a high possibility he is Red John himself.

In Season 4 & 5, we can see that Lisbon is slowly becoming an apprentice to Jane. She picked up some of the mentalist skills and been improve whether in terms of observation or manipulation. Jane also constantly shows hints as one day he might be gone.

Throughout all the seasons, we can see Jane staring into the mirrors and somehow becomes another person for a split second. This might be because he has split personalities and he himself does not know about it. When he becomes Red John, he might black out or something.

My guess of the ending is that, in the end, Lisbon found out Jane is Red John, and she has to use what she know and learn from Jane previously to take him down while Jane realized who he is but unable to control himself. And in the end Lisbon outsmart Jane/Red John and confronts him and kills him. Jane will then thanks Lisbon for killing Red John in his dying breath.

I know there are some arguments to this theory that Jane is actually RJ such as shaking hands before and stuff. The thing is, no one knows for sure the person they see is really RJ. Maybe Jane ask a person to pretend to be RJ and directs the disciples to do his bidding but actually this 'RJ' is also one of the disciple who is acting as a cover for the real RJ aka Jane?

One small detail....actually dialogue between Lisbon and PJ talking on the phone when PJ enters the house of his psy Sophie:

L: What made you think of her?
PJ: i dont know, doctors, hospitals..
L: You think RJ learned about E. Turner from her
PJ: He must have, I MUST HAVE TOLD HER A LOT OF THINGS I DONT REMEMBER....I WAS ON SERIOUS MEDICATION

Later when he was in the office with Lisbon they were talking this:

J:....i know something that RJ doesnt, Sophie dictatded her notes, SHE COULDNT TYPE, NEVER LEARNED, SHE WAS KINDA PROUD OF THE FACT, SHE HAD A SERVICE THAT SCRIBED EVERYTHING FOR HER....

MY QUESTION: Jane didnt remember things about him self that he told to Sophie because he was on serious medication but he remembered that she could not type and that she had a service and that she was proud of that fact?? Coincidence? Or he was lying or he is two faced...

PLEASE COMMENT :)

Okay, not literally Patrick Jane... but the same photograph might work.

As far as I know, we don't really know much about PJ's childhood, except that he worked as carny with his domineering (some might say abusive) father, Alex.  Although Alex seemed to wear a wedding band, nothing was mentioned about PJ's mother or any possible other family members.

Now, this is a gigantic what-if, but what if, when Alex and his unnamed wife split, each took a child with them? Alex took Patrick... What if unnamed wife took Patrick's twin brother, who grew up to become Red John?

In so many ways, RJ is like PJ's evil mirror image.  What if that's true more than just metaphorically?  I know it doesn't fit neatly with the list and such, and many might argue that it would be like the writers were cheating if they pulled that trick.

But it would also explain an awful lot...

Imagine if someone very much like PJ used his skills for actual evil and control over people, not content with stopping (as PJ usually did) at mere graft and deceit.  There's a reason why so many people kept coming back to the idea that PJ himself might somehow be RJ: it's because PJ's personal traits and skill set are almost ideal for being RJ.

It would explain why PJ fits all the physical traits that have been hinted at about RJ.

It would explain why Simon Baker provides the voice and body-doubling for RJ, and RJ sounds very much like -- but not exactly like -- PJ.

It would explain (tongue-in-cheek) why so many RJ allies remark on how similar RJ and PJ are.

And here's the hair-raising part...

Bruno Heller has said that RJ has been around from the beginning, but that we don't see him all the time.  If RJ is PJ's twin brother, and especially if RJ also has allies/followers in law enforcement agencies including the CBI (and therefore could keep tabs on where PJ's location, assignments, etc.), he might actually be able to masquerade as PJ at times (to get into his office, or question a witness, or talk to a psychiatrist...).

It would open the door to the question:  Has every scene we've seen with Patrick Jane really been Patrick Jane?  Perhaps he's been able to hide in plain sight -- in part -- by using a tactic that twins have used to mess with family and friends since time immemorial.

Likely?  Maybe not.  But it would certainly put an unexpected twist on things...  :)

*READ WHOLE THEORY BEFORE YOU SAY IT'S WRONG*

Patrick Jane actually is the murderer of his family, and he is trying to devise a plan to accuse someone else (the 7 suspects). This would be a very similar plot to the film "Shutter Island". This theory demonstrates the "symmetry" mentioned from the Tyger Tyger poem, suggesting Patrick's split personalities: Patrick Jane the traumatized victim ~or~ Red John the murderer. Also from episode 1 Season 6, when Lisbon noticed Partridge's GPS tracker at the scene of the crime and she came to find him killed by Red John, thus if Red John is truly one of the 7 suspects, another GPS tracker (other than Partridge) would've been there. Also, since Red John killed off Partridge, I predict that he will continue to kill the rest of the suspects except for one, and Jane will later encounter that one suspect. Jane will then kill the last suspect making the audience think he just killed RJ and then  ... Jane will draw the smiley face with the blood, revealing that Patrick was actually Red John all along! Patrick will then use the excuse that he killed Red John and no one will know.

Now I realize there is tons of evidence against this theory but I believe that would be the ultimate twist.

Patrick Jane

While many in the Blogosphere are distracted by the direct naming of 7(Now 6) Red John suspects, most now seem to be shying away from the possibility of a killer outside the obvious. I believe that the creators of the show are drawing attention away from the answer like a pickpocket does an unsuspecting mark. The art of misdirection has been used in shows for quite some time, now the mentalist is planning to follow suit. While the current episodes blow a screen of smoke, flashing red herrings for each listed suspects, Patrick continues to stay one step behind Red John. At one point in the latest episode, Teresa mentions that it's "like he pulled it out of your head." Maybe the famous mentalist is fighting a battle against himself, which would explain why no one can catch the elusive criminal. I also believe that before Jane began killing, Brett Styles was a earlier version of Red John (which would explain the episode red barn) and somehow passed the duty down to Jane. Jane may be taking the persona Red John to new extremes which would explain his conflict with styles. And that, is my two cents on the matter.
