I think it might be possible that this entire time, Jan has been Red John but doesn't know it. After the trauma of his family being killed (by a killer for a different reason), he developed a multiple personality disorder and created Red John to make sense of it all. In a way it is like the movie fight club. Jane is the master mind behind all of "Red John's" doings and the people who follow Red John. The only reason this may work is to think that Jan has no idea he is also Red John. He can not be in two places at once, but I have no doubt, if he is Red John; he's had people do some of the work for him so he could be Jan while "Red John', is still at work. In one aspect I would hate to see Jane be the bad guy, I love the whole team, but it would make a crazy ending to the series.

To the people who think Jane is Red John..................................

The Mentalist season 6 is going to run for a full season of around 20 episodes as usual.

Red Johns is being revealed and most likely killed off around less then halfway through.

If Jane was RJ, then the show couldn't carry on for another 14 episodes without the main lead..............


 

Where do i begin? Red John made that video 2 months before Patrick made the list of 7,that can mean only 1 thing. Obviously Red john isn't psychic so that's out of the way,the only other explanation is he knew who would be on that list early is because he made it himself. Bruno Heller is right when he says Patrick is not Red john, Rj is another person (personaltiy) sharing the same body as Patrick (the other personality). His past was rough,he was probably traumatized by his upbringing thus getting a split personality disorder. Now,clues shown to us in the show are as follows ;

1) Whoever has a personal vendetta with Patrick ends up dead. Luther Wainwright,the serial killer panzer.

2) He destroyed his happy memory that nobody else knew.

3) In the latest episode,did you see Patrick's expression when he asked Lisbon where she was on his phone? He had a grin on his face as if he knew. Also,when Lisbon was waiting outside the house did you notice that a car passed her when she was waiting? At that time Patrick was driving aswell.

There are many more clues which i'll post later because this post has become too long.

Ok this may be way out there but think about it. 
Patrick Jane is and always has been Red John. When Jane was on TV making Red John look like a fool, a copycat and far superior serial killer arose and punished Patrick for making serial killers look like jokes or what not. Now Patrick (original Red John) is set out to find the smarter, more ruthless copycat Red John and avenge his family.  

I have always been certain it is Patrick Jane.

I believe that big clue Heller talks about from this episode is the fact Jane touched Van Pelts shoulder. He clearly has her under a state of hypnosis. If you watch the episode again, when Jane rings Lisbon upon her entering the house, and he asks where are you? there is a smile.

he told her to tell no one under the assumption that she would tell her team, thus jane can then use this to his advantage

All 7 suspects are probably accomplices or know something and he is wanting to clear the evidence by killing them off one by one.. 

Watch the clues, its there.. The whole show is based on look at the clues and the truth is staring at you.

With every season i watched a few people stood out as RJ. The "he is mar" makes me thing that means he is many. The William Blake poems quoted talk about good and evil and questioning whether God made the evil as well, so basically its a battle between God and Satan. With the appearance of the 6?? number on the wall, makes me think that perhaps The Mentalist is going to take a turn similar to that of Twin Peaks, which revealed Laura Palmers killer to be possessed by spirit that took control of many different individuals to commit murders and rapes. So Patrick Jane could also be one of those people commiting the RJ murders and so can the other suspects. Maybe Jane made that video of Lorelei revealing the suspects as a cry of help to Lisbon to save him. He wants RJ to be stopped. Lisbon wears a cross always and her first name is Theresa maybe she will be his saviour.

The clue Heller is speaking is the case himself. The basebal guy is physical similar to Patrick Jane and his wife is equal to Patrick´s wife Angela, you can see that by the painting. Therefore Patrick quickly knew the answer because his wife did the same to him, causing him to "transform" to his alter-ego Red John and stopping her moving out, the worst way possible. Red John is in fact the male and violent prone version of Jane. His aversion to guns and being a coward regarding confrontation, created probably by some past trauma, a new persona that is everything the oposite of Jane, just keeping is twisted sense of humor and inteligence.
