Did anyone else notice how in the episode Devil's Cherry, Jane's daughter asks him, "does anyone know who you really are?" that pretty much settled it for me.

Now, I'm not saying Jane is Red John or isn't Red John. I'm not that arrogant. However, I take issue with everyone using Bruno Heller's latest interview as foolproof regarding this theory. If Jane is Red John then Heller would never tell us so. He has, however, delivered a very short, sharp: "Jane is not Red John". It was so concise but still leaves enough wiggle room for him to say, at a later date, Jane is not Red John but Red John is Jane. The only way this theory works is if Jane has a dis-associative disorder and is unaware of how insane he must be. He's the writer and creator so he has to look after his story and its secrets. If you've never heard of a TV show producer lying about a show before then you haven't paid much attention to the entertainment biz or are extremely naive.
As for things pointing towards Jane being Red John in the season finale:
The main one being that Red John knew the exact list Jane would come up with weeks before Jane did. He had to know the meticulous nature in which Jane would whittle down that list perfectly. Red John also knew about a happy memory that only Jane, himself, knew. He even used the same terminology as Jane did (through Lorelei) in describing the destruction of this "happy memory".
There are several episodes that have a sly nod towards Jane being Red John, but there is much "evidence" to disprove it also. However, I seem to be in a minority who recognise that The Mentalist is a TV show, so is open to dramatic licence like the lead being the ultimate villain. Every idiosyncrasy can be explained if you reach hard enough (Just look at the pathetic final season of Lost)
I will be interested to see how the writers can feasibly explain these things without it being Jane as Red John. I also hope it is not Partridge. The actor playing him is nondescript, his character is flat and uninteresting and he would be a dour villain after so many years of investigations. The only actor, for me, worthy of pulling off Red John is Malcolm McDowell, so I personally hope that Bret Stiles is Red John (That is if the list of 7 is where Red John's identity resides)
Ps. Does anyone hope that the list of 7 is a red herring because I find the idea of the final identity of this villain being spoon fed to us, the viewer, as quite insulting. I mean, Jane would also need to know things that he literally could not know to compile that list; like where each of those men were at the exact time of Red John killings. Jane has a powerful memory, but his memory has nothing to do with knowing where the suspects were or were not at any given time. He cannot know where they all were at those times. No-one could. There would be no definitive record of their whereabouts to leave those 7 men as the only ones under suspicion. Am I the only one seeing the flaws?
Well I have my doubts and it just blossomed when I heard RJ’s voice in
the last episode of season four. The way he said some words looked so
much like Jane. I don’t know if you guys felt the same or not but I
listened again and again and again, the more I focused the more I got
sure.
BUT I don’t think Jane is able to do all these dirty and dark things on
people. And the split-personality-theory looks too complicated unless PJ
orders and others do what seems to be done by RJ. Besides it does look impossible in any kind of way, unless the writer thinks it is. Any way I do confess if this
is the case–Patrick being Red John, I will regret all the time I wasted
watching The Mentalist.
Maybe he is schizophrenic and he is playing the bilateral symmetry (killer -killer) of the tiger. It woud be so lame.
OKAY EVERYONE !
I'mma say this once and for all : JANE IS NOT RED JOHN. Bruno Heller has confirmed it, Red John is one of the men on Patrick's list.
And also : it wouldn't make any fucking sense !
Geez, to everyone who keeps whining about "this red john thing" :
1. It's the fucking storyline of the show, watch NCIS if you're not interested in it.
2. If you expect the writers to write a good show, then pay some attention, be good viewers ! Use your brains and stop with the stupid theories like LISBON ! I mean, seriously ?!
It's been going on for 5 seasons and it seems you haven't even watched ONE episode !
Patrick Jane is Red John since no person could really extract a happy memory out of someone and kill the person in that memory. Also Red John guessed all the suspects correct which is impossible since how would he know which people did Jane shake hands with. Its feels like Jane is Red John. Whether its a case of multiple personality disorder (more likely) or not it seems that mentalist is being setup for an epic ending with Jane as Red John.
Hey guys, what do you think about Lisbon's wrist at 5x22 ? When Patrick ask Lisbon "What happened to your wrist?" I really could not think about something else about 20 minutes after this. And it was either an another sneaky thing from Brunno, or it was something really important.
It's really uncommon when Lisbon comes at work injured some way.
What if Lisbon was involved in that murder of Aileen ? I'm not sure that she know who is RJ, but she can help him and that's the way she was injured.
But it's just a topic for discussion.
I have 2 theories.
1. RJ is PJ, because I really do not know any other way to be always one step ahead of PJ. Мay be all that is just a representation of Patrick's to show how smart he is.
2. I really do not think that if Patrick has a list of suspects, he will show them to someone, even to Lisbon. Maybe it's another fake scene from PJ, it's possible that PJ didn't add one more photo with real suspect only to see the reaction of Lisbon. And now PJ knows, that if RJ didn't mention the name of this one person, then PJ knows that now he is ahead of RJ
Btw sorry for my english.
