THE THEORIES

If red john did not kill lisbon when he captured her then there has to be a reason for doing so. Red john would kill anyone that is somewhat close to patrick jane. So for not doing so to Lisbon makes me think does he have anything towards her? Season 5 episode 13. Ray haffner talking to Lisbon and wanting her to move out of her current job where he is located and shows hints of him kind of jealous of how she wanted to stay with Jane. I feel like he likes her and for that reason he didn't kill her, therefore red john is Ray. I Hope this makes sense..

mentalistfan123 - I dont think that Bartram could be Red Jhon... At the end of the 1 ep from sea. 6- we can see R.J.'s  hands. They are too skiny... But!!! If we look carefouly at the 7 members list only Ray Haffner and Brett Partridge has ,, that kind of skiny hands,, But Brett is dead...

Also another theory that I was thinking is what if Red Jhon is not  just one pers.? What if the ,,real,, Red Jhon is Ray and also Bartram? Or Ray and Bob... ( Bob was that pers. who brokes in James room)

Well, of the remaining 6 suspects, I believe that Bret Stiles is too old to be RJ, and that neither Gale Bertram nor Reede Smith fit the description of RJ given by the blind lady. (Can't remember her name.. Rosalind, perhaps?) Anyway, so that leaves Thomas McAllister, Bob Kirkland and Ray Haffner. I really don't think that we have seen enough of Thomas McAllister for him to be RJ, so I rule him out too. That leaves Bob Kirkland and Ray Haffner. I'm really haven't made my mind up as to which one I believe RJ to be.. I think the idea of RJ being more than one person isn't all that plausible, given that only ONE person saved Jane from those creepy teenagers.. And the fact that RJ has always been referred to as one man..

I loved the first episode of the series though!

Does anyone agree with me?

This theory is based on the supposition that Patridge is dead, that assumption is to be hold until the next episode.

So, the reduced list comes to this (in order of plausibility):

6. Gale Bertram: although he is a really powerful man and kind of mysterious, he has not the psycho personality nor the intuition to be Red John, my theory about him is that he may have debts with Red John and is part of his informative crew.

5. Reese Smith: He is too compulsive and aggressive, contrary to Red John who is an "Artist, a Show man", he does not kill because of anger, he kills because of pride and enjoyment.

4. Thomas McAllister: The theory #4740 explains why he is not lower on this list, but we do not have anything on him, he just appeared in one episode and he was just a creppy cop.

2. Bret Stiles: He is with visualize which we know is pretty related to Red John's start (Red Barn episode), he has the intelligence, personality and charisma of a perfect Red John suspect. However, at his age he can not be Red John. But, he may be one of the main accomplices of Red John, he also has power inside the police (as we saw when he helped Patrick free Lorelei).

2 Bob Kirkland: It is clear he is deeply involved with RJ; he stole Jane's research, killed a RJ's friend to silence him, and has a rivalry with Patrick Jane, but he is far too obvious, and he is NOT cautious. I will say he is RJ right hand.

1. Ray Haffner: Raymond is like Jane; he has control of himself (and control others), he can be smooth and casual, he is a "member" of visualize and (probably) was at the barn when the first RJ murder occurred. He tried to take Lisbon, remember Lisbon has been a RJ target in many episodes, when RJ asked for a gift he asked for Lisbon, and now he took Lisbon to weaken Jane (I assume she is not dead and this is a plan to stop Jane)

I've read this site many times but never wrote in until now. I think the big clue mentioned in interviews is that bag or curtain above sink that Lisbon sees right before she's attacked. I can clearly make out a letter 'G' on it. Not sure what it is but I think it's the clue which will come back later.

As for suspects, I think thry're all RJ's friends except the one who is the real killer of Jane's family. That's why Partidge said Tyger Tyger and that's how RJ knows the list, because they're all connected. Either way, the bag or curtain above sink I think is a huge clue which will come back into show. Just my two cents.

Not sure about Haffner just needed a suspect to write in my observation.

Important points:

1. Red John knows about the phone bugs. Jane has no doubt about this and
says so, so why should we as viewers have any doubt that RJ knows about
the phone bugs. If he sets a trap for Lisbon as part of his killing of
Partridge, he would obviously leave his bugged phone at a different
location. The location of the bugged phones on Lisbon's computer screen is
therefore not a clue worth paying attention to.

2. Bertrum's weirdness at the beginning of this episode can be ignored. Heller is not so stupid to feed us obvious clues like this. As usual, this is just classic narrative spicing. Each episode he will likely make a different suspect a little more suspicious. Ignore.

3. Partridge may not be dead, but he is not the person who attacked Lisbon. The door to the bathroom opened while Partridge was on the ground bound with packing fasteners. Whomever attacked Lisbon was either RJ himself or an accomplice - but clearly not Partridge. I would very highly consider Partridge dead, and I see no reason for Heller to be so deceitful about this. In the post-mortem interview with Heller, he clearly states that RJ needed BP dead at this stage of affairs to complete his grand plans. We should try to understand why this is, rather than consider that BP faked death in an elaborate 2 man operation.

4. RJ holds the bloody blade used to cut BP in his left hand as he wipes blood from it with his right hand, and then smears the smiley face on Lisbon with his right hand (or so it appears). This may be a clue.

5. The room with the 7 pidgeons in it, and with 1 flying out -- this is a clever cinematic device, but if this is indeed the "clue" that Heller refers to, it is weak sauce to say the least. In fact it does nothing but tell us what we already know and are just finding out -- that there are 7 suspects, and now less 1. Are we meant to conclude that RJ is planning a really cool murder scene - so he lures BP to a condemned house and to kill him, and also goes to the effort to plant 7 birds in a room to be a cool metaphor for the 7 suspects in the assumption that Lisbon (or later Jane) opens that room and counts the birds and thinks how clever RJ is?? ... to me, this is just clever (or perhaps wanky) directing by Heller as a 'wink' at the audience. It surely holds no significance.

6. Not really a major point to think about, but it's lucky that right as L is about to open the bathroom door, BP makes a groan in the closet so that she goes there instead. Had she opened the door she would have seen RJ and would have been killed by him (no way he can let her live then), and then the whole Partridge element of the plan would have been wasted. Lucky that BP groans? I guess so.

7. BP saying "tyger tyger". Was he told to say that? Not possible. Most likely this poem was recited to him by RJ as he was killing, binding, and forcing him in the closet. So it is the only clue BP can think of to tell Lisbon as his dying utterance. We must assume BP never sees RJ, as RJ would never let this happen or he could just i.d. him to Lisbon as he dies. RJ must have planned for BP to be able to say a few final words to L and wanted to plant the "tyger" clue deliberately.

So i am of the mindset that Partridge is dead and that this was not a trick of his. If you watch the scene closely brett partridge is on the floor face up telling lisbon " tyger tyger" when the door behind lisbon opens. So it cant be partridge opening the door because he is on the floor. It was red john who openened the door and just hides behind the door as it opens. And you can clearly see that lisbon is pulled from behind, not from the bottom as many suggest.

Partridge is not realy a strong man so i doubt he could have pulled lisbon and knocked her out while he was laying on the floor. Lisbon is clearly pulled from behind, you can clearly see the angle she moves.

And red john could have easily left his phone at some other place because he knew they were bugged thats why no other signal appeared except the one for partridge.

I most surely think Partridge is dead, i think he is really overestimated. He is just a weird lab geek who is creepy and likes seing dead bodies.
