THE THEORIES

Ray Haffner is Red John.  He won the heisman trophy.  If you watch the first episode he was in, when you first see Jane going in Rays office you will see the Heisman trophy.  And will bet it will come out he went to LSU because the Tiger is there representation.  Will see but it will come back Ray.

Let's say for argument sake
that Bruno Heller isn't lying to us.  One of the seven is red john.  While I think Michael
Kirkland is still alive, he isn't technically on the list. So, if Bruno is not
pulling the wool over our eyes (and that's a big if)
, let's examine the evidence I posted in theory 9843.

Brett Stiles is too old. 79
Is not middle-aged as Sophie Miller described.

Sure, Brett Partridge could
have faked his own death, but he’s not athletic.  Jared Renfrew stated RJ had won the Heisman
Trophy.
Partridge does not look like he ever played football.  He’s even kinda thin, while Rosalind stated
Roy was “not thin, but not muscular”.

Bertram doesn’t fit Rosalind’s
description. “Under six feet… short, straight hair.” Gale is 6ft 3 and bald.

Bob Kirkland is dead.  Even though his brother is a twin and would
fit all of the physical indicators (including smelling of pine, earth and
nails), Michael is technically not on the list.

Therefore we are left with…

Reede Smith: Yes,
he's fat.  However, Rosalind described Roy as "Not thin, but not
muscular”.  He still fits in that
category.  Sophie Miller stated he was in good health.  Again, I know
he's fat, but for an overweight man, he's still in decent health.  He was
pummeling a suspect pretty well in episode 2 of this year.

Sheriff
Mcallister:
He fits everything, and I mean EVERYTHING.
Yes he is balding, but he's not bald.  Plus 6 years ago, the actor
who plays Tom had much more hair that he slicked back.  When the show
began, I would argue that he fit Rosalind's definition of "Short-Straight
hair".

Raymond
Haffner:
Yes, I know he's missing the tattoo on his left shoulder...
you didn't watch Fire
and Brimstone, did you?
I warned you!!!  I believe Red John definitely had the tattoo.
Jared Renfrew wrote on the bathroom wall, He
Is Mar
,
which I believe meant He Is
Marked
.
 However, missing
the tattoo actually makes everything make more sense.  The whole private investigator thing bugged me (pun
intended).  Why would Red
John have someone bug Cho’s desk?  I
think it was all a set up.  Red
John is part of the Tiger, Tiger group and knows they would have the
tattoo.  He let Kira Tinsley
see his three-dotted tattoo to throw suspicion onto his cronies.  Afterwards, he removed it.  I’m sure it would be very easy to
remove such a small tattoo.  Perhaps
Jane noticed Haffner had a small scar on his shoulder where the tattoo was?
Regardless we have three strong suspects, and Ray is at the top in my
book.

Before I begin, I should state that I've watched every episode up to episode 6 (Fire and Brimstone).

I know that lot of people are thinking that Brett Partridge is still alive and that he is Red John. I did have a thought though. In all the best horror movies, unless you actually see the dead body then they're not really dead. Even though Partridge is reported as being dead, we never actually see a dead body. Could he still be alive? Read on.

In a previous theory I wrote, I stated that Tiger Tiger group (TT) is a separate thing from Red John (RJ). What I mean by this is, RJ may be aware of TT and what they do, but is not actually a member.

Given his number of contacts and influence, RJ could definitely have come into contact with TT members, even if he himself wasn't a member or even in law enforcement. However, I think that RJ must at least have been in law enforcement at one point in order to learn the best ways to leave no evidence at his crime scenes. During this time, maybe TT tapped him up to become a member. But instead, he could have easily persuaded them to help his cause as Red John. He charmed them (in the way a charismatic enigmatic person like RJ could) to help cover up evidence at his murder scenes and maybe even becoming one of his disciples.

I think that Brett Partridge was part of TT. TT has figured out that RJ is using some of it's members to cover up his crimes and is trying to find RJ to weed out those in the organisation who are helping him. They used Partridge as bait, but RJ being one step ahead, called in the anonymous tip that went to Lisbon. That screwed up TT's plans to catch RJ. However they faked Partridge's death and have him locked up in a dungeon somewhere possibly torturing him for info on RJ's identity.

This would explain why Partridge said Tiger Tiger to Lisbon. He felt betrayed and wanted to expose the organisation. Also, if TT have Partridge captive and tortured him for RJ's identity, it would explain the abundance of swat team members outside the house in the promo for the episode The Great Red Dragon, currently available on youtube. They want RJ as much as jane does and are determined not to let him get away.

In addition, Sophie Miller (Jane's ex-therapist) stated on her dictophone the following about Jay Roth (ie Red John):

Mr. Roth came in complaining of a recent issue with severe acrophobia. He’s middle-aged, in good health, with no stated prior history of psychiatric issues. He has no living family, but many friends on whom he relies for company and emotional support. He’s well-spoken, good posture, self-possessed. In the waiting room, he sat calmly in one place, needing no distraction.Though I note, he is an excellent whistler. His self-presentation is pleasant, but there are hints in his behavior of a damaged and narcissistic personality. He says he deals with conflict and adversity easily, though. I’m not convinced he’s being truthful about this. In fact, much of what he said, though spoken convincingly, did not match what I can only call my instinctive response to his presence, though I cannot point to identifiable clinical behaviors that indicate this. I sense something deceptive and dark in his emotional makeup. However, there is every indication that his phobia issues are real whether acrophobia or some other issue remains to be seen.

We have seen that Haffner definitely suffers from arachnophobia. There would be no reason to put in a scene like that to highlight a phobia without very good reason. Haffner is ex FBI and CBI agent, so would have definitely have come into contact with TT members, even if he didn't actually become a member.

Haffner is an ex-football player, probably college as seen by the trophy in his office. The trophy is a heisman trophy, as far as I can tell. "Heisman" - He is ma. Coincidence? Could the victim have been trying to write "heisman" but died before he finished it? Or if the message was supposed to be "he is many" (as a lot people suspect) could this be yet anotherreference to Tiger Tiger?

According to Rosalind Harker (who had a relationship with RJ for a few months) Red John is:
Just under 6 feet tall. Not muscular but not soft, either. Short straight hair... a gentle voice. Rough, strong hands. This description sums up Haffner quite well (apart from the hands as we can't feel them).

Red John is extremely intelligent, a match for Jane, as seen from his ability to outwit him time and again.   He has twice hacked into the CBI computers without being detected. He sets up phony companies and bank accounts to keep his identity a secret. This would well be within Haffner's abilities; formerly, he was an FBI agent in the Organized Crime Division, and is an expert in wiretaps and creative surveillance techniques.

Reed Smith shot Kirkland seven times. Rigsby said he was shot six times. The show is not flawless after all. At this point I just hope it's not Smith.

Sorry for posting so much, but I finally saw the extended trailer for 07 and I think my final guess I am going to run with is this.

1. Jane's team in this episode will be helping Jane knowingly or unknowingly to spread disinformation about who dies in the blast.
2. The three men on Rigsby's "RIP Board" are the only three still alive
2a. Stiles is alive for some purpose, maybe Jane let's him in on things
2b. Hafner is alive because he is RJ
2c. McAllister is alive because he was not really TT but he did infiltrate TT (or whatever faction of TT that Reed and Bertram represent).
3. Bertram and Reed are dead (probably killed in the blast).
4. I dont beleive anyone "innocent" is killed in the blast.
5. Jane and Stiles (and maybe Haffner) are all in a/the vehicle fleeing the house as Lisbon's team arrives.
6. Hafner is RJ and either gets away at the house or gets away as Jane is kidnapping him from the house.

My final reasoning on why I think Hafner is RJ:
The TV guide interview really makes me think its him. I dont know why, but I get this vibe from Simon Baker that the kill scene is homoerotic and it just suggests to me an equal adversary in terms of attractiveness, age, and build. I also think Haffner most resembles the descriptions physically we got from others. Also, idea of being lifelong friends after a handshake makes me think Haffner. The way Haffner is toward Lisbon (cocky, confident, somewhat dismissive in a playful way) is very similar to PJ, and with Lisbon being a very primary character in PJ's life, it would make sense for an outsider to pick up on Haffner/Jane similarities. Finally, him working at the visualize farm makes a lot of sense. I've also seen way to many good theories on this site why RJ is not Bertram or Stiles. Heller knows that RJ identity can't be a huge surprise now (if he is indeed among the 7 which Im sure is true), but I can't think he's going to let it be so obvious as having all spoilers in TV Guide and Extended promo point us at Bertram and then have it actually be Bertram.

I appreciate any comments

I think that RJ wasn't the one behind the explosion in jane's house.

I know it sounds crazy, but if you see the 6x07 promo you can hear rigsby saying that the bomb killed jane and the other suspects (bret stiles, ray haffner, sheriff mcallister).

we know it's a lie, jane survived. it's a trick to confuse all the law enforcements because they have tygers everywhere, and this is bad

I'm starting to believe that it was patrick himself who bombed the house... why? it's simple

1) he can fake his death and move freely (he knows that every law enforcement is corrupted, it's too risky coming back in the office...)

2) he can use the same trick for the other suspects, faking their deaths too.

3) without knowing his location, red john can't find jane or know what he's doing/planning. this time he's not a step head

jane is not stupid. he probably had a "last trick" in case the situation in his house was out of his control, and that trick was the explosion

now you're probably thinking "why faking the other suspects death??"
there are 2 suspects that would gain an advantage from a fake death more than the others: one is RJ, the other is BRET STILES.

yes, stiles is in trouble with the FBI and he's constantly searching for a place where the law can't reach him... patrick gave him this opportunity, so that he can disappear silently and without being caught.
if by any chance someone finds him, he can say "See my power? I returned in the living world as I said before... I defeated even death!!"

but... now bret has to return the favor once again (just like when he took lorelei out of prison).

what patrick wants from stiles is easy to guess: confirm RJ true identity
(jane probably figured who's red john, he just needs to confirm it from someone that knows the truth)

if stiles is "dead" he can confess, RJ won't come to kill him (plus, he has a lot of other bigger problems to think of...)

even if RJ is haffner (someone stiles can't betray) thanks to this trick he can say everything without having to worry.

maybe I'm just crazy, but I think that this was patrick's secret plan in case the "5 suspects meeting" couldn't end with the RJ reveal

I don't know how they survived the explosion, all that I can think of is: remember that patrick had a hidden gun? he never used it or showed it to the others, maybe that gun was used to make something explode...

oh, almost forgot: in my opinion RJ is Ray Haffner.

Unlike others he is not too old nor too young.. he definitely fits redjohn's profile... the trick in season 6 episode 5 and 6 is that the people with three dot tattoo are the followers of red john.. and since there was no smiley face when the private investigator is killed justifies that it wasn't redjohn who killed her more over haffner was missing at the same moment.

The main reason why I think it's ray haffner is because he is the only person who calls Lisbon by her first name as THERESA and if you look at conversation between Patrick Jane and redjohn in season 6 first episode , it shows that redjohn also calls her by the same name..... you can change tone in a conversation but rarely you change how you address a person...
