THE THEORIES

Have you guys noticed that when Patrick asked the 5 suspects one by one to meet him on Thursday, he only had an intense, intimate conversation with McAllister? There was some silence and tension between them, but still playful?

With all the others it was completely different. Patrick has a strange chemistry with the sheriff.
Just going by feeling, I would think it's him out of the 5.

This isn't a guess as much as an observation. If you asked me one thing that stood out about last nights show, the only thing that I can state unequivocally was that McCallister had a weird, sh#$ eating grin as he walked by the camera and to the other side of the room. It was notable because his back was to PJ and he was passing while looking almost at the camera. It was a big smirk. Now that could mean he is incredulous that PJ doesn't get who he and the other two are...Tyger/Tyger....or he finds the whole charade funny as RJ, knowing that 3 of them have the tattoo. After all, PJ stated again last night a couple of times that RJ is always one step ahead. Wouldn't it be typical RJ to have his followers get the tatoos, knowing PJ would find out this info? Again, who knows if he is RJ. The grin though stood out big time last night.

Everyone has good theories who red john is so I won't bother repeating instead just bring up things that might help at the very beginning in pj interview that got his family killed he said he lives in a singal story blue house with a citrus tree out front and probably lives with his sister or mother maybe he got something right and got some kind of attention from him then I rewatched lastnights episode and it never fails there are a lot of diners in the show but look at the name of the one McAllister goes in its called the blue diner so maybe we should look back at some of the other diner names and right before Jared Renfrew ran off didn't they pull up in front of a diner. Just a thought and he is the sheriff of Napa valley. I think we are made to think Red all the time that we miss the importance of blue it wouldn't be like wheres waldo if we could see it that easy somehow blue means something.

A few observations about the Fire and Brimstone tattoo reveal scene:

Watch it again and keep your eyes on McAllister the whole time.  You'll notice he's very controlled.  Keeps his arms crossed when PJ says 'one of you is RJ' (after covering his face with his hands...to smile, perhaps?).  ALSO has same stance when PJ says one has a tattoo, no change of countenance, and he KNOWS he has the tattoo.  So, same face with both accusations.
When Haffner stands and PJ gets his gun, McAllister is motioning with his hands very calmly.  He then tries to calm "Patrick" down with words.
Some have said RJ wouldn't deny being who he is, but wouldn't you deny it to keep the game going?  If he's found out right there, PJ kills him, game over.  Also seems to me the writer would WANT the most dramatic tattoo reveal to be the real RJ.
Notice how Haffner and McAllister share a knowing glance as they're removing their shirts.  As do the 3.  Stiles protects McAllister from being shot by PJ.
But perhaps the most telling thing to me is McAllister's body language as he stands up and looks at Smith.  The camera angle shows just enough of his face where you can see him smiling behind Patrick's back.  Then he walks to Bertram and gives him a knowing glance.  Do the others with the tattoo know RJ's identity?  I don't know.
Bertram certainly keeps someone updated (Strawberries & Cream and
F&B phone calls to reveal PJ's plans).  If they don't know, RJ has protected his identity by making them all have the same tattoo as him.
Others have said this and I agree: the bomb is probably hidden in McAllister's hat.  He still had most of his sheriff gear on and could have hidden a detonation device in it.  I saw no other suspect with any other belongings brought into the house.  Plus, he could have another type of weapon on his uniform that might go unnoticed.

Thoughts?

This might be a little too simplistic, but taking into account the following, I'd say it's Sheriff Thomas McAllister. I have a second guess - but that comes after.

1. BH says he's been there from the start. Only the Sheriff and Brett Partridge have been there from there start and well, the latter's dead.

2. 'He is Mar'. Has everyone forgotten this writing on the wall? Call me naive, but was it supposed to write 'He is Macallister (almost dying people might not care about spelling)?'

3. RJ was 18-30 years old when he worked in the Elliston Farm, the Sheriff seems about just the right age.

4. Lastly, which has nothing much to do with the show but more the actor, Xander Berkeley would be THE PERFECT candidate to portray Red John. If you watch Nikita (where he played Percy), you'd feel as strongly as well. A psychotic, sadistic yet polished individual with a deep-rooted evil within him. I always pictured Xander Berkeley coming out of the Sheriff outfit and into a sleek suit, revealing himself as RJ.

The only thing that throws me off is the phobia which Sophie Miller mentions. 'Acrophobia', fear of heights. I've replayed that scene many a time and it is very clear she says 'Acrophobia' and not 'Arachnophobia' - which I initially read another theory about this possibility. However, in 6x05, it is revealed to us that Haffner does indeed have Arachnophobia (the scene with him, Lisbon and Van Pelt where he freezes at the sight of a spider). You gotta ask yourself, what the hell does that have to do with anything? At this point in the show, I don't think the writers would write in something like that just for kicks. Was this a huge clue for us, or just to throw us off? If it was a clue, then my second guess would be Haffner. He fits Rosalind's, Father Peter De Bono and Sophie Miller's physical descriptions.

I have to say, if RJ was Bertram or Smith I would be disappointed. Bertram would be too obvious a choice (oh hai we're gonna make RJ the director of the CBI) and Smith just seems too random a choice.

And admit it, Brett Stiles is too old to be RJ.

Whoever it is, I definitely am on the edge of my seat for the next few episodes.

Not saying this means anything . . . but removing the letters that make up the word "Carmen L" from the word "McAllister" you have the following letters remaining:

LIST

(But there is no N in McAllister)

Someone else has probably noticed the "A-LIST-er" anomaly, too!
