There are many theories that claim RJ is Van Pelt.  It is not:

The last ep of season 1, the sheriff and PJ walk into an abandoned house and PJ almost walks into RJ.  He juggles the door handle but the door is locked.  Behind the door, we see a shadow who is shown leaving a table with  cup of tea on it.  The sheriff is the son of RJ's associate and RJ is staying there. 

While this happens, Rigsby and Cho discover the true identity of the sheriff and call Lisbon.  When she doesn't answer, they call Van Pelt who is at the office.

So, RJ is not Van Pelt or any member of the team.

I will tell you who isn't Red John. Brett Partridge. The poor chap is dead, get over it. The body didn't just disappear, there was an autopsy done, normal procedure. Patrick Jane isn't that stupid to wipe Partridge from his suspect list if his body just disappeared. Hopefully we can put a rest to these silly theories. 

For a long time now I've been wondering if a single person could be Red John.My theory now is that it is not a person, it's an Idea.
The trailer for Episode 7 and two previous episodes confirm that.I do not believe it is either anyone from Jane's team or his suspects.There are in fact two chances:a) it's a Movement (like Visualize, which was inspired by RJ) consisting of manyb) it's someone else ,that will surprise us all at the end.Either way - good to have a show to write and think about:)

To all that don't know mar means disfigured or to disfugre to spoil something or somebody.This is another thing that is the same with the killer form the movie Red Dragon with Hanibal Lector where the serial killer that they try to catch is dissfigured probably like RJ and another thing that is the same is the blind girlfriend Rosalind Harker is Rj girlfriend and in the movie the killer named Toothe Fairy also has a girlfriend that is blind.The last and most important thing is the William Blake connection the Tooth Fairy is transcending in to The Great Red Dragon which is a painting of William Blake and in the mentalist the next episode is called The Great Red Dragon and Tyger Tyger is also a poe of William Blake.

I just want to share some random hints, which can exclude one suspect ;).

1.) conspiracy

In episode 6.02 three of the suspects were talking in the office of Bertram about something. Bertram said it's about drug related crime. The three were: Reede Smith, McAlister and Bertram himself. This three persons are also the suspects with a three-dot tatoo.

2.) Rosalind Karker is a red herring

Why is Patrick Jane not gather the suspects, invites Rosalind and let her identify him? He knows, that she is not reliable. I would assume her as a deciple, thus excluding her hints. Thus, the theories based on this hints should be thought over ;).

3.) McAllister is out

As you know, Red John seems to have some phobia. It's not necessarly acrophobia, but some phobia ;). In the show it is pointed out, that McAllister has ornithophobie (phobia of birds), or at least pidgeons only. In episode 6.01 Red John kills Partridge and attacked Lisbon. However, in this spooky house pidgeons were in the room Partridge was killed and "discarded".

So, in my opinion McAllister is out as Red John.
