THE THEORIES

I am impressed by the many compelling ideas supporting each suspect as RJ.  That notwithstanding, I really hope some of the suspects turn out to be good guys -- or at least normal human beings (good intentions, serious flaws but also some positive characteristics).

In particular, just how many psychopathic serial killers -- and devoted followers of a psychopathic serial killer -- can there be in law enforcement in one area?!  RJ is striking because psychopathic serial killers are rare.  It is quite a stretch to assume that even criminals would be willing to accompany RJ down such a heinous path, much less be willing to die for RJ.

Also, while the conspiracy theories are fun, it strikes me as weak if the plot depends on widespread evil, with the lone exception of Lisbon's virtuous, heroic team.  Ordinary failings often are quite enough to explain dishonorable or questionable behavior.  For instance, Bertram was perfectly willing to write Jane off after he killed Timothy Carter.  This is perfectly in keeping with an excessively ambitious bureaucrat/politician whose commitment to his subordinates ends when they cease to further his career.  (BTW, try as I might, I can't reconcile the plaque for bravery in Bertram's office with a RJ personality, regardless of the other clues suggesting Bertram might be RJ.  Bravery -- especially the aspect of risking self for another -- seems incompatible with the absolute self-referential nature of RJ.  RJ appears to place zero value on any person or belief system except his own.)  Kirkland's murder of Jason Lennon isn't far from the ruthless values and actions sometimes required of spies.  If Lennon were a covert agent "turned" by RJ (as Kirkland said, Lennon allowed himself to become the "plaything of monsters"), Kirkland might have killed Lennon to protect some larger investigation.  Anyhow, it's too precious for all virtue to reside in Lisbon's team with evil widespread among other law-enforcement teams and agencies.

Just a thought.  Thanks for reading this.

Some guy just linked this and I just want to ask, does this mean that the list is fake? And by that I mean (brett stiles, gail bertram, ray haffner, reede smith, bob kirkland, mcallister and brett partdrige). Or is this about some other fake list?

Some shithead just posted this and I was dumb enough to click on it because I didn't think it was that big of a spoiler. But I guess the secret will be out in just a matter of time so I might just post it myself.
Do not click on this link unless you want your next 16 days to be like hell.

I know this website is called who is Red John, but I am the only one who is more interested in the why, how, what, and where of RJ?  Which suspect he is is in fact compelling, but also we gotta find out how he does everything behind the scenes.  How did he learn his tricks?  How many followers does he really have?  Hundreds, Thousands?!  Why did he become a serial killer? etc etc etc.

One more point.  You know how Patrick sometimes figures out who the murderer is in a case but doesn't tell anyone else?  Then he pulls something to catch them and prove they're guilty.  He even did it the season 6 premier (twice! baseball player and diner people).  He's done in a lot of episodes.  What if Jane already knows who RJ is and is just plotting how to catch him?!   That's what i think he might be doing, just playing the game or pulling one of his tricks.  Except to get RJ, it has to be much more complex and elaborate that the little things he does in "the murder of the week" type cases

I want to post my theory, but we need a forum. There are too many good theories and conversation to watch it all fade down the list.

Is there a good forum somewhere that anybody knows of?

I've suggested they make a forum here on this site. Please vote it up if you agree :)

What about all of the seven are Red John?

Why Bruno Hellar  chose number seven for final list?

There is also a painting by William Blake: "The great red dragon" where a dragon is shown with seven heads.

Please comment why this is not possible.
