A lot of people think the one of the seven suspects is RJ. I have many different theories of who RJ is.

1. RJ is not one person, but RJ is a group.
2. I don't think the writers of The Mentalist even know who RJ is.
3. Not sure how much Bruno Heller pays attention to detail but every actor plays their part and their part alone. Therefore I don't think any of them act as RJ. So, what that tells me is that we can't assume any of the seven suspects is RJ because they are not acting the undercover RJ role. My personal opinion is that it wouldn't be fun if one of the seven suspects is RJ and I'm sure many agree. Plus, I'm sure if RJ is one of them, there is way to many details they missed to make the suspects RJ.
4. One day RJ will die. Who will take his place? Patrick seems to be the choice atm.
5. To run off theory number one. Visualize University is the ultimate training program to become RJ.
6. Out of everyone on the list, Bret Stiles is the only one that stands out in my opinion. Even though he stands out, I don't think it's him. May be Bret's number one apprentice or the number one apprentice of the man who ran Visualize before Bret.

P.S There is a picture of members in Visualize in the Visualize farm episode, one of them looks a lot like Brett Partridge but I don't think Bruno Heller would make that mistake. Maybe father?

My theory is kinda far fetched. I mean there is a high possibility that it's not right. But what if RJ is not just one person? What if it's a group. A group of people which each of them are best at something. Maybe Timothy Carter was one of them and after he got killed others continued their way.

Think about it: Bret Stiles is best at manipulating people so he gets people to work for them. Ray Haffner is good with technology. And I think there's an anonymous person who actually wants to hurt PJ. A person who knows about him. He who maybe has a hate in heart for him for a long time. He is the one that kills people in his own special manner. And he is the one that killed Jane's wife and daughter.

Have you read or watched Agatha Christie's: Murder on the Orient Express? don't you think there's a slight possibility that there's not one murderer but a group of them? a group which can turn people. Which can kill people. Which has been described as gentle and kind also as a beast and animal.

You may ask"Then why people who know RJ talk about him as one person?" well, probably the answer is: Because for each of them only one of them is Red John.

I know it's not what you think or what you find possible but if you were kind enough to think about and comment you would make me really happy.

Just an interesting assumption here. Todd Johnson was a dedicated follower of Red John. It was him who saved Jane in Season 2 Finale. (I believe Red John would use one of his followers well enough rather than show up in person and save Jane himself - he's smarter than that)

Todd Johnson spoke 'Tyger Tyger' in his last hours to let Jane know it was him who had saved Jane. After Todd Johnson was caught as the cop killer he knew he was going to serve indefinite jail time. He had to tell Jane about how he had saved him and try to make his sentence easier. 

O'Laughlin came to know this and burned him alive before Jane arrived or before Todd had revealed anything related to Red John.

I think that the sick girl who Jane and his father have
tricked was Van Pelt`s sister. I mean, Jane remembering her in the same episode
when Van Pelt remembered her sister who “ended up for her” isn`t a coincidence.
So if this would be true, Van Pelt has been whatching Jane for a long time.



Interesting fact:

Van Pelt believes in the existence
of psychics. Red John doesn`t. My theory is that she is working for RJ; you
know that Red John said to Jane “if you were a real psychic, and not a fraud…”,
so this could be Van Pelt`s words “if you were a real psychic you would have
saved my sister”.

I have previously written
quite a long theory before regarding the importance of the poem «Tyger. Tyger.»
(theory 3845). William Blakes poems (including «Tyger, Tyger») is largely
sprung from his fascination and insights to greek mythology. Many
allegories and metafores are based upon the anient greek gods. (I forgot in my
elaborate theory regarding the poem to also mention the line; «did he smile his work to see?» Yes; RJ allways leaves a smile to whatch over his
finished work). This post continues from my original one.



Seven heavenly bodies (planets) are in ancient alchymy associated with seven
metals and seven gods. The ancient astrologers also believed that the seven
heavenly bodies influenced human personality; earth, moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun,
Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The ancients believed these seven «planets» ruled
over their own certain metal (see under); alchemic planetary symbols represents
spirit, mind and material.



Pre-Roman cultures believed each planet is associated with one god or goddess,
and each god have their own influence over elements and humans. (Heller also
knows roman history and greek mythology (created for instance the series
Rome)). This is also consistent with the already existing theory regarding III
15 Mars (He is mar); the death date of Julius ceasar. I still believe my
original idea about the writing on the wall; but this could be a hidden message
or a fun detail from the creators.



Many ideas and consepts of The Mentalist is orbited around the mystical and
supernatural. Psycics, tarot cards, hot and cold readings, tea, butterflies,
tigers, magic, fairytale connections (like «devil`s cherry) card tricks, coin
tricks, different beliefs, cults, religion, whitches and astrology to name a
few. All the visits to Janes previous carny life, Lorelais death scenario, Sean
Barlow, Visualize, Kristina Fry, Ellis Mars, etc.

The list of suspects have seven names like the heavenly bodies. One we can
assume is RJ: Mars - who is associated with iron. Perhaps the total seven
suspect are in fact the other heavenly bodies; metaforically speaking. I do not
believe they are all connected to RJ, but is perhaps more like a fun fact for
the writers:

I am not saying that the suspects are gods (!), but rather a curiosity. And I`m
not saying that the list is a league of diciples with RJ as the head master (or
is in fact one of the others the master?); but it seems intriguing.



But I do believe there is no coincidence that exactely these 7 suspects are
left on the list; I truly disagree with those who think the creators are just
plotting and improvising along the shows path. Or else all the known diciples
wouldn`t have announced from an early stage that we will be blown away when we learn the true meaning of RJs efforts, plans
and ideologies. There is a deeper meaning.



I have left the other suspect suggestion boxes open; there are many of the
suspects we don`t know that much about. Recap of the seven: Kirkland, Haffner,
McAllister, Smith, Bertram, Partridge and Stiles.



I think Stiles could fit several gods/planets; like the sun - the logo of
Visualize is an eye within a sun. Mercury also would fit him nicely; messanger,
eloquent, traveler (we know he travels), well spoken, etc. Haffner could also
fit the sun; the eye that sees all. He is an expert on surveillence. Maybe the
most feminine and handsome character is Partridge; Venus? The moon could
be Smith; he`s ill tempered and unpredictable. Jupiter is the god of
Public affairs, hunting, the law, gambling and banners and trumpets;
Bertram cares greatly about the public oppinion/the press and plays poker.
These are just my suggestions...

I feel like the list of 7 suspects is misleading and the real Red John is someone else.

I still fail to understand why would Gabe Bertram, Ray Haffner or Brett Partridge would have a 'mole inside the CBI' to eliminate Todd Johnson when they were there themselves ?? (Bertram was one of the 4 suspects anyway and was very close to the holding cell where Todd Johnson was)

Sheriff McCallister, Brett Stiles and Reed Diamond do not match the physical description of Rj as provided by Rosalind Harker

Bob Kirkland was not recognized by Jason Lennon so he cannot be Rj either.

I strongly suspect that Rj is someone with ties to Jane's past carnival life. Although I think it is unlikely it is his father, it could be something like a twin brother since the show has not made ANY references to Jane's mother.

I really have no idea who on the list could be red john but I really want kirkland to be him mostly because for me he's perfect for the role. His character and mannerism are so mysterious and intriguing( also thanks to the actor who play it) .Compare to the other six they fall in comparison. I'd be dissapointed if it were the remaining six lol

But looking from this season and all the clues, I dont think it's him which is sad. I guess he has his own story regarding Rj.

And how much i despise it, reading from all the theories rj is most probably brett patridge which is meh lol
