From the 30 suspects released by cbs lets first rule out any who don't match the physical description by Rosalind Harker
"just under six feet tall, with short, straight hair, not muscular but not soft with strong hands."
Brett Stiles- Older, balding, posh accent would have been mentioned
Don Henderson - Well built, bald
Gale Bertram - Bald, over 6ft
Judge Manchester - Balding, old, large frame
Glen Snow - Well built, tall, black (from images of RJ's hand)
Tommy Volker - Long wavy hair
Jason Cooper - Old Bald
JJ La Rouche - Fat, bald
Walter Mashburn - Over 6ft
Reed Smith - Fat, too big of a build
Tolman Bunting - Beard
Sherriff Mccallister - Moustache
So we're down to 18
Lets remove those caught for crimes, making them, in my opinion not smart enough to be red john
Asher Mcclean - Caught for sexual abuse
Donny Culpepper - Caught burglarising La Rouches house
Tommy Volker - Already removed
Glen Snow - Already removed
Richard Haibach - caught with photos of women
Linus Wagner - Convicted for murder and in jail for many red john killings
Max Winter - Caught trying to kill his wifes killer, red john would have succeeded
Down to 13
Dean Harken, Doc Dugan, Paul Fricke, Markham Shankar, Gabe Mancini, Robert Kirkland, Brett Partridge, Ellis Mars (wanted to rule him out because of built and hair but not sure), Ray Haffner, Dr Royston Daniel, Virgil Minelli (wanted to rule him out also because of age but again not sure), Vint Molinari and Osvaldo Ardiles
Im going to remove one off characters that are not very memorable also in episodes not directed by heller, simon baker or chris long as i find it doubtful that when red john is introduced the episode will not have been made by one of the three
Doc Dugan - although i like that he was a retired quarter back and "he is man" could be the heisman cup that the victim recognised him from winning, long shot though (episode directed by Eric Laneuville)
Dean Harken - Liked him for red hair but his temperment didnt strike as someone who could have many followers (episode directed by John Showalter)
Paul Fricke - Red Johns followers mostly women so red john being a womanizer would be good but not really a great character (episode directed by Leslie Linka Glatter written by ken woodruff)
Gabe Mancini - Doesn't have the temperment, chasing jane through the building for the red bead incident (episode directed by Randall Zisk)
Dr Royston Daniel - Liked him for motivational speaker but episode was written by Ashley Gable and directed by Norbeto Barba
Vint Molinari - Brief appearance, not memorable, just a normal cop (episode directed by David Barrett
Osvaldo Ardiles - Neither his first or last appearance was written or directed by Bruno Heller
Down to 6, Markham Shankar, Robert Kirkland, Brett Partridge, Ellis Mars, Ray Haffner, Virgil Minnelli
Ellis Mars - For a major twist with a bumbling mans character changing before your eyes mars would be good. Mars is the red planet. His episode red moon was written by heller and directed by simon baker. He gave patrick the card which sparked the tiger tiger poem memory. "he is mar" could be he is mars, or if the H could be two l's and it could have been an attempt to write ellis. He is also a physic and maybe was just playing as a fake
Virgil Minnelli - Gregory Itzin was amazing in 24 at playing the villain. The fishing trip where minelli retires and then red johns persona changes, seems odd. Knew what taggliafero meant. Appeared in the season 5 flashback to still under contract or still agreeing to play a role....
Brett Partridge - Meh, I don't like him, his character would need to change because that guy would def not persuade people to follow him, he doesnt seem to have a great deal of power that red john would have and just a massive red herring i think
Ray Haffner - Don't know much about him really, but a visulize member so possible but a bit obvious, why would they tell us that in the same episode we find out red john was or is in visulize......
Robert Kirkland - again, obvious but who knows......
Markham Shankar - An underdog, rich, powerful, fascinated with death memorabilia, his episode directed by chris long, written by bruno heller
People i ruled out who i would like to be red john, Max winter, physical is there, got away with trying to kill his wifes killer and we know red john is married. Gave jane the gun to kill his own follower, that would be a great mind game
Mashburn - love him, so if rosalind is a follower i think its definitely him, otherwise, too tall
People with facial hair could of shaved but both the characters were one off anyway and not memorable
