Who is Red John?

Theories of pnat (2)

I am certain, more than ever, that it's Sheriff McAllister. The clues are right there for the taking. Adding on my theory here that it's McAllister: http://www.whoisredjohn.com/See-a-theory-Red-John/10471, here's why I'm ever so convinced after watching 6x07.

1. RJ is smart, he would've faked his own death in the bomb. He didn't bring the bomb to get rid of the other suspects, he brought the bomb in to write himself off the list. We all know RJ by now, he isn't stupid enough to get identified. We know RJ is part of the Blake Association. McAllister plants blood samples knowing it'll match positive to him and the team will pronounce him dead. NO ONE WILL LOOK FOR A DEAD MAN. And thus, ladies and gentlemen, RJ has successfully written himself off Jane's list. Whether Jane made it out alive or not, no one would still know of his identity. And now, while Jane blindly hunts for Bertram, McAllister is free as a bird to screw around with Jane one last time. Absolute Red John genius there.

2. Bertram uses an alias in the vault - and it's Thomas. You can't get any more obvious a clue than that. BH and the writers are just throwing it in your face by now.

3. The 6x08 promo. That man is not Bertram. It's Xander Berkeley aka Thomas McAllister. Go watch it for yourself.

4. The pigeon. It's in the promo. It's a symbol. A clue. The pigeon that Lisbon released scared off McAllister. He made it clear on the church rooftop that he hates pigeons. And now we see one in the promo.

BH keeps to his word that RJ has been there from the start. RJ as Bertram is a disappointment. Yes, Bertram, as the head of Blake Association, makes all the sense in the world. But him, as RJ, does not cut it. There are still so much more lose ends to tie up before next week (the coded list, the dodgy FBI agent from Texas, why Partridge's left shoulder got skinned). We all know and love this show and there's always, always more than just what's been thrown at you.

This might be a little too simplistic, but taking into account the following, I'd say it's Sheriff Thomas McAllister. I have a second guess - but that comes after.

1. BH says he's been there from the start. Only the Sheriff and Brett Partridge have been there from there start and well, the latter's dead.

2. 'He is Mar'. Has everyone forgotten this writing on the wall? Call me naive, but was it supposed to write 'He is Macallister (almost dying people might not care about spelling)?'

3. RJ was 18-30 years old when he worked in the Elliston Farm, the Sheriff seems about just the right age.

4. Lastly, which has nothing much to do with the show but more the actor, Xander Berkeley would be THE PERFECT candidate to portray Red John. If you watch Nikita (where he played Percy), you'd feel as strongly as well. A psychotic, sadistic yet polished individual with a deep-rooted evil within him. I always pictured Xander Berkeley coming out of the Sheriff outfit and into a sleek suit, revealing himself as RJ.

The only thing that throws me off is the phobia which Sophie Miller mentions. 'Acrophobia', fear of heights. I've replayed that scene many a time and it is very clear she says 'Acrophobia' and not 'Arachnophobia' - which I initially read another theory about this possibility. However, in 6x05, it is revealed to us that Haffner does indeed have Arachnophobia (the scene with him, Lisbon and Van Pelt where he freezes at the sight of a spider). You gotta ask yourself, what the hell does that have to do with anything? At this point in the show, I don't think the writers would write in something like that just for kicks. Was this a huge clue for us, or just to throw us off? If it was a clue, then my second guess would be Haffner. He fits Rosalind's, Father Peter De Bono and Sophie Miller's physical descriptions.

I have to say, if RJ was Bertram or Smith I would be disappointed. Bertram would be too obvious a choice (oh hai we're gonna make RJ the director of the CBI) and Smith just seems too random a choice.

And admit it, Brett Stiles is too old to be RJ.

Whoever it is, I definitely am on the edge of my seat for the next few episodes.
