Who is Red John?

Theories of quazigogogo (18)

good to see a little discussion back at this site.  good thing they are bringing it back in November.  I don't think the site would have survived if they had waited until after the holidays.

in my opinion, what really made this show great, and it was a GREAT show at one point, was thet elements of misdirection and surprise.  no matter what heller or baker or anybody else says, it was always about PJ vs. RJ and what kept us so glued was the fact that we never knew the next time we would see a red smiley.  yes, we could guess that season finales would probably involve RJ, but we weren't sure how or when.  and we were always pleasantly surprised a time or two during midseason.

but in season 6, they began advertising RJ.  there was no surprise factor.  just a whole bunch of BA and RJ crammed down our throats and so convoluted and sloppy that it was all just a big ruined mess.

so, you take a hero who bases all of his powers on the art of misdirection; and you take a villian who uses mindgames and the element of surprise; and you are left with a season that clearly doesnt add up.  the only logical reasoning for the actions of both the hero and the villian from last season, is that it was the ultimate chess match from both sides, and both wanted the other to think that it was over and that they had won......

so despite the preview that showed on my tv last night while i was watching football, and almost caused me to spew my dinner in chunks all over my living room at the site of the 2 lovebirds watching fireworks,  this season could be set up to be an epic finale to a great good vs. evil battle.  wouldn't it be great if the fireworks display ended with a giant explosion in the shape of a red smiley!!!!

p.s.

i am not delirious.  i understand that a series finale with a RJ return is a pipe dream.  but that's the point of this site.  so if all you want to do is piont out the fact that the RJ is over, please just go away.  go back to your mom's basement and play batman arkham origins on your overclocked pc.  dust off the dorito crumbs from your undershirt and maybe google a little bit about personal hygiene.

The point is, i still think there is a chance for REDemption.  i believe they intended for timothy carter to be RJ, but then back tracked to save the show.  I believe they intended for McAssface to be RJ...but have left it unexplained enought to back track again if needed.  So unintentional or not, there is room for a great ending.

Can we all at least agree that season 6 sucked donkey nuts.  I mean it may have been the worst season of any tv series i have ever watched.

Season 6 was a true and complete "jump the shark" moment for this show.  the first 3-4 episodes weren't devestatingly horrible, since they all had a local murder of the week and followed the standard format of the show.  but they were still focused on overloading the audience with ridiculous and over-the-top clues to how each suspect could be RJ.

then came the next 3-4 episodes when the show decided to completely abandon what had mad it successful and focus solely on the RJ chase and loading up on confrontations and action scenes with people banging heads againts windows and pulling killer pigeons out of their asses.

then there was the entire second half of the season filled with soap opera antics and everyone sitting happily around the campfire singing kumbaya.  jane dressed like a slob....lisbon kept falling in love, GVP was pumping out babies, Rigsby was wearing a retro 1984 Michael Jackson pleather jacket, and Cho was making jokes constantly.  Not to mention the new characters.....fishcer the unemotional robot, and abbot who pulled the ultimate 360 from hardass to teddy bear at midseason.  i get that jane lost the stress of RJ, but for every character on the show to completely change personalities!!!!!  what a crock of shhhhh....

and i didn't even mention the excrutionaly long and multiple mid-season breaks the show took to leave us guessing only to come back with this low grade horse piss.

so now i'm completely torn....do i go into season 7 with expecations based on 5 seasons of intense and well written episodes, or do i go into S7 with the noose tight around my neck and the dining room chair i'm standing on wobbling on it's last leg???

i watched an episode of CSI once.  a bus was travelling and people died.  at the end of the episode the killer turned out to be a gas station mechanic at a stop the bus made.  the dude was in a screenshot for about 2 seconds and besides that was pretty much obsolete.  they spent 55 minutes of the show chasing top suspects, on for the big reveal to be a loser who made basically a cameo that didn't even produce a good reason or storyline.

i wonder if heller watched this episode.

.....why stiles btw.....no real reason, just that next to PJ, he is the only other truly dynamic character the show ever had.

quick poll.....

if S7 turns out to be a a complete suckfest set out to satisfy the jisbon incestual bandwagon and we continue to be teased with very very subtle hints of a possible RJ revisit, and most of the episodes focus around the blantantly dull fischer; and the show gets to a point where simon baker can no longer keep a straight face on camera....which is getting damn close.

let's say that happens.  let's say we stick out 13 "murder of the week" episodes surrounded by this soap opera feel good love fest.  let's say we all want to stick molten hot needles through our eyeballs and eardrums to make this suckfest go away.........

but in the last screenshout of the final episode of the final season, we see lisbon laying gutted with that red smiley above her.....will all be forgiven and we praise the fact that RJ was not McAsshole and RJ did truly win in the end???? or will too much damage have been done for any possible salvation????

i kind of get a kick out of the fact that some of these theories still get an "unlikely" vote.  no offense to anyone that clicks it...it does say "unlikely" and not "impossible".  but if the hand we have currently been dealt is a storyline involving a redneck sherrif turned serial killer / criminal mastermind who's demise lead to the incest laden relationship simply to satisfy all the jisboners out there, what isn't plausible???

seriously, if i had posted before 6x8 that McAssclown was going to remove his clark kent style of a costume (sheriff hat and moustache) to reveal that he was not only RJ, but the leader of the BA, only to be derailed by a pigeon.  and that would lead to PJ dancing in a pink sarong and floral blouse.  stack on rigsby taking bullets like a cyborg, and top it all off with the creepiest kiss of all time.  now that would have gotten everybody's "unlikely" vote.

so now when someone tries to make just a little sense out of the entire debacle, i can't bring myself to call it unlikely, no matter how unlikely it might seem at first read.  at this point, i would have to say a season 7 where cho tracks down rigsby and rips his heart out with his bare hands just so he can finally get a sweet piece of some GVP, or where abbott confesses to being Kirkland's maternal twin, or lisbon admits she is PJ's bilogical sister........after what we've seen, i'd have to vote anything as plausible

IF

What it all comes down to is if red john really isn't Mcallister. That's the big question. As of 6x8 I probably have to admit that it was true. As pathetic of an ending as it was, that was it. The writers saw the end coming. They decided to without thinking, draw a random name from a hat and pick that guy as RJ. They f'd it up. Totally fubar. So they rushed the ending of a great story while neglecting all things rational. Why'd they rush you ask? They rushed so they'd still have 1/2 a season to do two things....satisfy the jisbon cronies, and maybe with the slightest bit of lick, extend the series one more time with a revamp and change of scenery.

But now what? They got the extension, and can do with it whatever they want. Option 1, 13 episodes of the Walton's incest style. Option 2, BA/Visualize angle to provide a little sense of closure after the RJ fail. Option 3,they decide RJ shouldn't be Mcallister, instead Mcallister was just BA, and was there to deliver a message to Patrick. What message you ask? " the game is over and I won". To my recollection, mcasshole never said the words "I am red john". Instead he was there to give Patrick the message that red john had won. How did he win? He won by convincing Patrick and everyone else that he was Mcallister. Now all he has left to do is wait. Wait for PJ and Lisbon to get together now that their defenses are down. What for them to have a baby. And just as season seven begins, wait for Patrick to leave them home alone.......then season seven starts with another note on the outside of a bedroom in Patricks house.

i'm sure i'm not the first loser to suggest this, but i'm gonna do it anyways.

this show is all about red herrings.  every single episode we are introduced to a handful of suspects for a murder mystery.  throughout the episode different ones are ruled out and others are made to look very guilty.  in the long run, it usually ends up being the least likely suspect, or even someone that wasn't even presented as a suspect in the first place.

so why would it be any different for RJ.  if heller wanted to give us 7 names to pick from, shouldn't we have taken the history of the show as a clue and automatically looked at those 7 as the least likely??  i mean the first few episodes of season 6 revolved around trying to make each of the 7 listed suspects seem guilty.  from irrational fears, to weird sacrificial ceremonies, to random whistling and quoting william blake, each of the 7 listed suspects were shoved in our face as being guilty.  so if you are going with the theme of the metalist, these 7 names should be eliminated as suspects simply because they were suggested so strongly.

i know stoopkid has been down this road and posted a theory on just about every character, director, or key grip that has had anything to do with the production of this show, but maybe we should step back and take a look at the "other" suspects.  frey, mashburn, ellis mars, the lady feeding pigeons, pike, roger at the bar, teresa's brother, rosalind, the pigeon........i know its a reach but i think a case could be made for just about anybody if the reveal came with a little background or explanation.

plus i think at this point we are just re-hashing old theories, so it's either get creative or start planning for 13 episodes of happy-go-lucky incestuous tear jerkers.
